  1. our adopted staffie helping with firewood last year. he loves to try and chew up logs!
  2. lovely 8 degrees plus in aberdeenshire today, everything thawing out.
  3. See if you can persuade doc to get you acupuncture ( my spelling sucks), i have had it many times for my back and its never failed to make me want to sleep, i used to get it around 6pm, go home and have a meal and a beer and sleep like a baby for 12 hrs. Spoken to lots of people who have had it for many issues and sleep seems to be a common theme.
  4. i had my 2003 defender swopped within 6 months of getting it and its one of the best things i did. keep toying with idea of a chip but my mechanic has chipped his 110 and seems to fry a clutch a year so not too sure. As said above just good gear selection and you are fine, i know with a heavy (maybe a lol overloaded) load its 3rd up the hill between where mother lives and me, nice (legal) load and its 4th up the hill, both mean i maintain 50mph got my box from ashcrofts cause their reputation for quality and support made it a no brainer. Soo much more peaceful on road and will do a nice happy 90 ish or more at full bore - i get scared at 80 on mud terrains though.......... and 65 seems very very nice speed and car is settled at that.
  5. this whole security thing is causing me loss of sleep right now wondering how i can make my trailer more secure cause less than quarter a mile away last week a trailer went walkies overnite. currently got a chain over entrance, steel posts set in huge lumps of concrete with hardened chain and padlock, insurance approved hitchlock, insurance approved wheel clamp, locking wheel nut on every wheel and a bloudy huge chain round drawbar and padlock buried in many feet of concrete with steel pins below ground to make lifting out a pain, now feel its barely enough. it sucks
  6. sorry couldnt resist it

    560xpg

sorry for derail but does anyone know what chain speed on current 372xp that can be found for sale at jonesies right now is? cheers
  8. call it sunday dinner
  9. oh how i would love my work to own something like that. Its soo much harder having to load big rings or lengths with a small kubota and loader. A set of forks would have even been more useful. hope the photos are ok i didnt fell this, was taken down last may and left. Am a gardener with a chainsaw
  10. burnt most woods in stoves over last 15 years - only found 1 bad wood.........wet wood
  11. Towballs used these guys and postage and prices were good. good point in Tom D's post above on load rating, there are two on this site.
  12. our work has just got a ford ranger crew cab and i drove it yesterday for first time, lil bit gutless towing up a long uphill, goes like stink on flat without trailer. Back seats are worst thing i ever sat in without a doubt. Drivers position wasnt worst ever but could be better. Had to reverse my trailer into where it lives today, used to doing it with my 90 so ranger was like reversing a bus, actually had to get workmate to make sure i didnt smack either steel gatepost. I have to say so far the most annoying feature by a million miles is the screenwash tank, whichever idiot designed that needs a serious beating, for gods sake its meant to be a working 4x4 so who ever thought a tiny tank in wise is an idiot! at a guess 1.5 litres cause it was totally dry and i put in a litre bottle of screenwash and got a dribble of water in. its just too stupid for words........... both discoverys and defenders i have owned and girlfriends mini have larger tanks, along with mums corsa, brothers focus, sisters polo and would u belive the kubota b3030 i drive at work - rant over. so if you can weild a spanner, do a lil welding, handy with a big hammer buy either a 200 or 300 tdi discovery, i have owned both and were amazing work horses. worked my 200 tdi without mercy, didnt have a straight panel on it including the roof at 176 000 miles when i traded it in.
  13. Not loving my landy today, failed mot. both front seat belts frayed and drop arm ball joint but i knew about that, the joint is fine but boot has been off for a month or three but just kept putting it off. Seat belts are scare prices, nearly `100 quid each. there goes the piggy bank
  14. mine doing a lil towing and other photo when drawbar broke!
  15. my new 372xpg only has one setting on handles, on/off
  16. we had a couple of the brogio heads at work and in right place they were amazing on the fs480. Had a couple of links break off and never done any damage. Did make a habit of wearing saw boots with them just in case.
  17. Only ever been out of work for 3 weeks in over 18 years and that was inbetween contracts so no idea on benifits but seeing what the figures in this thread are it could be massively tempting if i didnt hate the idea to quit and go benifits, it would give me over a 50% wage increase per year! Crazy world
  18. The kubota B3030 i drive at work last year moving a load of firewood. Couldnt hold all in trailer so filled both trailer and loader to move it. Didnt go on public road before anyone asks for overloading.....and yes the trailer was a lil heavy pushing tractor downhill
  19. Apparently was sunny here this morning, but i didnt get up until 11 so missed that. Just got trailer load of lengths cut up and splitter started and rain came on, coffee time! Cold and windy after that - so very glad i had the cut and climb jacket from clarks (lil shameless promotion there) on, that made a huge difference. Now having a beer or 5 with some lovely elm on wood stove.
  20. when i started in current job just over 15 years ago my boss had just got a supposedly unbreakable spade and fork - i felt really bad handing both back within first week destroyed! Cant remember who makes the replacement fork but i would pay good money to see somebody break it short of running over with a mog. So there are good tools out there sometimes, its just finding them.
  21. no worries tony, i have been a responder for 3 years now and enjoy it, been red cross first aid volunteer i guess for 13 -14 years now and its great. The training is much better than it used to be in terms of realism and on nights where there are scenario's being done you can suggest to a trainer if theres a scene you wish to cover, so say silky injuries etc and they will try to make as realistic as possible with very real looking injuries and people who have been playing casulties for long time so can really turn it on! All good stuff.
  22. As a community first responder i can say its well worthwhile becoming involved in, few things to consider ideally have one evening 6-11pm free a week, ie drop and run - one evening a month available for refresher training within scheme (not all do this), 2 days for the training course where your brain will melt trying to absorb so much info - remember that most often the call outs will be truly boring, not every one involves defib - sense of humour is a must - it does give you more confidence to deal with emergencys. Edit to add, look into red cross first aid groups, these all require volunteers and for not too many hrs a year you get excellent ongoing training and some have responder groups attached to them, or work closely with them.
  23. depending on access, amount of timber useable as firewood and volume of chip it could be well worth it - know if i was closer i would be taking a look for the logs.
  24. and another vote for fr jones
