  1. Hotmax burns well in our stove. This is made by bedmax and is a waste by product of their main production of horse shavings. So I can see the point in this. Maybe one of the tests should be how much energy does it take to cut softwood into blocks vs compresses bricks and what do you get out of ea. I like the KISS principle and sometimes I think we get to involved looking for a solution to a problem that does not actually exist but does have a grant attached to it.
  2. I am not saying bricks are no good all wood burners are different could just be my set up. I used to burn two year seasoned beech. But currently burn 3x2 softwood off cuts the top flap is shut and bottom cracked open on our hunter. The heat out put is better but it does burn about a third quicker. With beech I used empty the ash pan every two to three days now it's over a week. When changing from a dense hard wood to soft wood it takes a bit of time to get the confidence to shut the flaps down.
  3. Verdo are 3 miles up the road from us I tried their stuff and it was a waste of time. My stove runs the hottest on softwood off cuts which people turn their noses up and throw away. Seems strange theire is a whole industry that puts a lot of energy into mashing up something that already burns better.
  4. Sounds like the man on the disco forum that lives near Salisbury. Seems An expensive slow way to take vehicles abroad.
  5. I have had brand new and old dogs. Now I buy 3 years old with 60 k on the clock white no aircon, no bling, no high out put guzzling fan dango engine. Last one was a 3 year old Vito from the main merc dealer new service, mot, tyres and 3 months warranty. 7 k plus vat had it 2 yeArs and just replaced the wiper blades. I don't buy ford Vauxhall or French. And I try not to run them past 140 k or 8 years. There may be plenty of life left in them but the repairs and in hassle are a lot more than the depreciation on something newer. Looking at your original post it occurred to me maybe your going from one extreme to the other. 198 k to brand fire new. Maybe the cheaper answer lays in between.
  6. I used to fit those smiths industries pump packs to tail lifts. From memory there will be a large battery positive from the battery or starter motor. There should be an inline fuse from the solinoid on the pump to the isolator in the cab. I would imagine the up and down buttons will be fed from this before going back to power pack.
  7. I have a large 6 in job for my garden complete over kill but I hate the small twig snappers. Even some of the large hyd feed machines are un impressive but the little gravity machines some are slower than a pair of shears. There are a couple of little machines that punch above their weight steve Blair has one think it is made by green mech could be a cs100 called Gloria.
  8. Tax disc holder makers
  9. Jon I don't think you can be sectioned for parking on single yellow line but may pay not to push it case they find other reasons.
  10. Your right as well just looked up my reg and remember see all the brake pipes were done last year. You do tend to forget especially if the vehicle was fault free for the first five years.
  11. If my disco only cost a fortune at mot time I could live with that. All large 4x4 are going to cost money at mot time especially as they get on with miles and age. Most amazons are getting very old. Disco 4 are not you can live with an old reck falling to bits but not a 3 year old car worth 30 k.
  12. They all come with a removable tow bar so assume they have all towed. People tend to buy the to tow.
  13. I would try and go for a 4. They have in my opinion a much better quality interior. The brakes an suspenion conponents have been uprated to RR sport so last a little longer. The 3 was only a 2.7 litre single turbo. The 3 litre is twin turbo which gives it bags more torque. I loved mine to drive but if I bought another out of warranty I would need to budget 6-10 k per year for tyres, servicing, repairs. Whereas the Amazon has cost 2k over 10 years it's a no brainer for me. Ps the occasional remove able towbars are crap and they fall, out. Trust do the best fixed towbar on the market for about £120 and will take you about an hour to fit and looks the business rather than bling proper engineered.
  14. I am actually a Landrover enthusiast rather than a hater but mine was mad. It was a mint well looked after never towed 60 k 3 year old vehicle. If it was a Friday afternoon job fair enough but so many people have the same problems. Reams of posts on front axle failure. The problems I had were common bushes, brakes, suspension, turbo, towbar wore out in about 5 minutes. Changed tyres more often than service. Door locks fail for a past time. I meet a few people who have no problems at all but I meet a lot more people who have had a money pit. Over twelve months mine cost 6 k in repairs and when sold really needed another 3 k spent on it.
  15. I have laid about 300 of these as part of the yard. They have gone up a bit. Bob you have the transport I have a contact at west bury last time I spoke to them they were cheap most of the cost is in the transport. You can check the quality before loading some loads are a bit ropey.
  16. Windbreak mesh does stop the rain. The other thing to use is old curtain side material. Some times the curtains get changed because they are damaged but still look fresh.
  17. We did exactly that last year with 3 in beech branch wood. The customer then cancelled the order so I sat on them through last summer and they are now as light as balsa and don't make for greAt burning. Works great as long as they go out the door.
  18. Not when plastered in mud and dents. Still a tough truck underneath not like the disco or x5 with all those little suspension bushes that create great handling but cost a fotune to replace every five minutes when you pull a loaded ifor trailer.
  19. Thanks for the review on the shogun saves me trying that one. I think you will like the disco 4 just remember they are the work of the devil:lol: The merc gl is supposed to be a nice drive and it tows 3.5 tonne. The landcrusier LC3/4/5/Prada only tows 2.6 tonnes
  20. Yes I have no problem helping inocent people out when in need. But that letter has the same frame work as the one I received. The charity based somewhere else but the author lives in your home town. But you won't find out where or able to drop the stuff off. It's hard enough to make a living with out fork lifting pallets of your produce on to the back of a lorry owned by a criminal. I am sure we all want to see the aid get to where it's needed.
  21. And goggles
  22. I hope the op got a genuine request to help these people. But I have had exactly the same request asking for kindling. Different locations but same frame work in the letter. May be worth doing a bit of research to make sure the stuff is going to those in need and not some scammer or worse criminal group who sell the stuff over in France.
  23. With a bit of competition the price of British cord will drop especially with warm weather and cheap oil. With no competition our kids will be working for nothing to save the enviroment.
  24. We produce kindling for the trade. Introduce them to selling kindling. Nip round the m25 and collect 400 bags at a time.
  25. If they don't undo easily with a cold engine don't force them. Start the engine and get up to running temp then try again. If they give a little but go tight again get some more freeing fluid in ,work them ,do up ,undo until they come out.
