  1. I like a big saw for firewood when it's all 2 - 3 ft butts it's easier to just work from one side. Also for ringing up firewood you are not taking the weight of the saw its just supported in the cut.
  2. I would imagine with the mild weather and plenty of cord about most log people are not interested in arb arisings. With log prices trying to compete with low oil it's hard enough to make easy cord pay without hauling crowns and knotty lumps back to the yard even if it's free. If the weather turns cold and the cord dries up things will be different get it while you can.
  3. The domestic house hold breakers are often more accurate and kinder to the windings than the stuff fitted to small generators as standard. Unless you spend a lot of money it will be difficult to get a breaker to prevent a gradual overload. If the breaker cuts out at exactly 10 amps then it will pop every time you start a motor. The best thing to protect your generator windings is the operator. Guess how many amps you can build up gradually on a 13 amp plug fuse before it blows.
  4. Needs a new door lock common fault but cheap part at £70. I don't think they replace just bushes they cut the whole wishbone in half with a grinder and chuck it away. New wish bone about £130 + vat + fitting. Eml is probably turbo actuator starting to stick open when you give it some welly. Not sure if a squirt of wd 40 will help it that's if you can see it or get to it. I bid 20 k on the land crusier which was 3 k more than it was booked. I think he may have been a bit of an odd bod as he sold it into Tanzania and they are hard to deal with.
  5. I was young and immature. Looks like I am in for some severe punishment for being 9 minutes over. No comment until my solicitor arrives. I said enough already
  6. I agree but maybe 2 hours would be better especially around Christmas. I filled two large trolleys and never went anywhere else. If they are not reasonable I will by a pint of milk next time and get the rest in lidl .
  7. I am going to talk nicely to Aldi I was in their store the whole time. I have a little bit of history re wheel clamp, petrol disc cutter. Apparently those big clamps cost £700.00
  8. Probably the best on the market. Not perfect as it's still only a single cyl air cooled engine but as good as you will get unless you spend over 6 k. Incredibly quiet but make sure you get the p6000s and not the p6000. I think I have sold one this week but need to check how much I pay for them now.
  9. Purely aldi was a big shop but excellent value when your used to there stuff. Some of it is :puke: but a lot of it is twice the quality and half the price. I am going to get those rotating number plates like James bond would be ideal on those average speed cameras as well.
  10. I filled two trolleys and stocked up for the next couple of months and Christmas. I spent £211.00 did I get loyalty points no I got a parking ticket for £70. You can only park for an hour and a half and I was there for one hour 39 minutes. Waste of time on there part as I only pay parking tickets from council car parks not private sharks.
  11. We don't sell the Chinese stuff but you can pick them up on eBay for about £900 sometimes they last years if looked after often they last 15 minutes . We sell a pramac p6000s last time I looked it was about £2500.00 +vat genuine yanmar engine and really quiet.
  12. Ed is a nice chap and almost a neighbour give or take 20 miles
  13. 4 kva minimum. We run ours at shows etc on one of those orrible 5.5 kva Kama/ kipor diesel Chinese things. And it handles it nicely even on knots.
  14. It's got worse because benefits have been cut back and the price of scrap is on the floor. Programmes like rouge traders and watch dog have educated the public not to employ casual labour. I think most of it is done by organised groups of natives.
  15. Everyone is worried about carrier bags but you should see the amount of out of date food and packaging the supermarkets skip around the back. They throw it out rather than reduce it and damage sales.
  16. Half my shopping comes from aldi. More often than not fresher and half the price. Their bags are 9p but much stronger and good fun to wave above your head when in tesco and the like. I find massive queues in tesco and the attitude of the staff dreadful.
  17. My tyres were like brand new after 9 years then I put concrete down and they were bald in two years. With new tyres mine would cross 18 in deep mud and climb out of ditches but it is sliding about a bit. Now
  18. The other thing I discover is I wanted a jcb with joystick as it felt smoother and easier to use . I got an amazing deal on a bobcat 753 a 1997 it was 3 years old at the time for £4500.00. It was horrific to drive for the first 3 hours then it became second nature. The bobcat is much faster and agile than the jcb robot. In fifteen year I have changed the oil a few times and cambelt and one fuel solinoid and that has been it. If I had the jcb it would have been a bit dull once you got used to it. Although the big advantage to the jcb is you can leave the cab with the bucket or forks raised which is a pita with a cat.
  19. I have had loaders on tractors but find them too slow and cumbersome. The other benefit with bobcat is you can move the bucket or forks from side to side. The quick release system means you can have loads of attachments and leave your tractor attached to the processor.
  20. I used to load logs with a bobcat. Unless you have a concrete floor you will be picking up dirt. It's possible to chase them around the yard but to make it efficient you need a clamp of solid wall to push up to. If you are working on dirt floors the bobcat will chew up the area and turn it into a bog with in the hour.
  21. 39.95 + vat today darch oil 900 litres
  22. It's a small 5 kw hunter. You could be right if I burn hard wood I crack it open about an eight of an inch. From experience we seem to get most heat and log life with it shut especially if it's windy. I will try a few more experiments
  23. Sign out the front Christmas trees £45.
  24. I bought peltor ones specified for jump jets. Have abused my hearing in the past working on big generators. Now 47 and have tinnitus . Recently had a hearing test and found a small problem in exactly the frequency you would expect of someone working in heavy engineering. Apparently I have trouble with the shhh sound like shopping. But I can't hear the words decorating, car cleaning, grass cutting or house work either. I can how ever still hear a ring pull from half a mile away.
  25. Not trying to knock the use of waste for heat but that's not what Verdo do. I have one of these biomass plants up the road would they be interested in our dry fine sawdust or are they likely to have a gate fee
