  1. I am not saying bricks are no good all wood burners are different could just be my set up. I used to burn two year seasoned beech. But currently burn 3x2 softwood off cuts the top flap is shut and bottom cracked open on our hunter. The heat out put is better but it does burn about a third quicker. With beech I used empty the ash pan every two to three days now it's over a week. When changing from a dense hard wood to soft wood it takes a bit of time to get the confidence to shut the flaps down.
  2. Verdo are 3 miles up the road from us I tried their stuff and it was a waste of time. My stove runs the hottest on softwood off cuts which people turn their noses up and throw away. Seems strange theire is a whole industry that puts a lot of energy into mashing up something that already burns better.
  3. I have had brand new and old dogs. Now I buy 3 years old with 60 k on the clock white no aircon, no bling, no high out put guzzling fan dango engine. Last one was a 3 year old Vito from the main merc dealer new service, mot, tyres and 3 months warranty. 7 k plus vat had it 2 yeArs and just replaced the wiper blades. I don't buy ford Vauxhall or French. And I try not to run them past 140 k or 8 years. There may be plenty of life left in them but the repairs and in hassle are a lot more than the depreciation on something newer. Looking at your original post it occurred to me maybe your going from one extreme to the other. 198 k to brand fire new. Maybe the cheaper answer lays in between.
  4. I used to fit those smiths industries pump packs to tail lifts. From memory there will be a large battery positive from the battery or starter motor. There should be an inline fuse from the solinoid on the pump to the isolator in the cab. I would imagine the up and down buttons will be fed from this before going back to power pack.
  5. I have a large 6 in job for my garden complete over kill but I hate the small twig snappers. Even some of the large hyd feed machines are un impressive but the little gravity machines some are slower than a pair of shears. There are a couple of little machines that punch above their weight steve Blair has one think it is made by green mech could be a cs100 called Gloria.
  6. Tax disc holder makers
  7. Jon I don't think you can be sectioned for parking on single yellow line but may pay not to push it case they find other reasons.
  8. I have laid about 300 of these as part of the yard. They have gone up a bit. Bob you have the transport I have a contact at west bury last time I spoke to them they were cheap most of the cost is in the transport. You can check the quality before loading some loads are a bit ropey.
  9. Windbreak mesh does stop the rain. The other thing to use is old curtain side material. Some times the curtains get changed because they are damaged but still look fresh.
  10. We did exactly that last year with 3 in beech branch wood. The customer then cancelled the order so I sat on them through last summer and they are now as light as balsa and don't make for greAt burning. Works great as long as they go out the door.
  11. Yes I have no problem helping inocent people out when in need. But that letter has the same frame work as the one I received. The charity based somewhere else but the author lives in your home town. But you won't find out where or able to drop the stuff off. It's hard enough to make a living with out fork lifting pallets of your produce on to the back of a lorry owned by a criminal. I am sure we all want to see the aid get to where it's needed.
  12. And goggles
  13. I hope the op got a genuine request to help these people. But I have had exactly the same request asking for kindling. Different locations but same frame work in the letter. May be worth doing a bit of research to make sure the stuff is going to those in need and not some scammer or worse criminal group who sell the stuff over in France.
  14. With a bit of competition the price of British cord will drop especially with warm weather and cheap oil. With no competition our kids will be working for nothing to save the enviroment.
  15. We produce kindling for the trade. Introduce them to selling kindling. Nip round the m25 and collect 400 bags at a time.
  16. If they don't undo easily with a cold engine don't force them. Start the engine and get up to running temp then try again. If they give a little but go tight again get some more freeing fluid in ,work them ,do up ,undo until they come out.
  17. I think I might have one does it have a shredder on the side.
  18. Yes if I fold it in half and yes I am a size twelve shoe.
  19. I just bought one with one Cree led very bright last 3 hrs on full brightness 6 on half which is all I need. Best bit is £12 plus vat. I will find the link if your interested. It's obviously Chinese but feels quality and if it gets crushed or lost its cheap.
  20. I would assume if you damage something while tipping it will be on your vehicle insurance. Pl would be useful these days to prove your innocents. If a thatch catches fire u will need to defend your self. If someone trips over the pile of logs you just delivered. If someone feels the woodworm eat there house in a week from your logs.

    Prices

I used to wonder if you got more logs in a 2 cu metre tipper body than you do in 8 240 litre wheely bins.
  22. Not really a regulation but in our area the competition ring up on a with held no and ask questions only someone in the trade would ask. When you have had enough fun ask them where they live and how much they use in a winter the phone will go dead.
  23. Yeah I agree totally. When I look for a vehicle closer to 30 is better than closer to 20 . Keeping an eye on the real mpg shows up the odd binding brake or jammed egr. Even changing the oil regular makes a difference to the mpg. I notice our old mk 4 hilux did not seem to get into 5 th as often and the oil felt gritty between the fingers changed it and away she went. Never even touched the fuel filters.
  24. I reset the mpg read out on my disco 4 and drove the tank like a granny to see what it could get to the gallon. The dash said 40 but I knew that was wrong so worked it out and it was 24 mpg. Some computers can be adjusted by the dealer to give a truer reading. They are set optimistic most owners will not question it and buy another truck on the basis the last one was good on fuel. The other thing to do is make sure you calculate that there is 4.5 litres to a gallon not 5 litres.
  25. I can see where you are coming from but with a weight ticket you can't go far wrong. Where it can go badly wrong is if there is no weight ticket and it's worked out by measured volume. Especially if there are lots of twisty sticks and gaps between the stacks on the lorries. Although I think most arctics get 4 stacks of 3 metres or 5 stacks 2.4 m
