    Im lost

Have you explained this to your boss? He may not understand how keen you are for the tree work so he could start pushing it more or subbing you out to other landscape firms/tree firms when they need a climber. Or go part time with him and look for other work.
  2. Sorry it was on another thread http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/maintenance-help/35104-kohler-backfiring-2.html#post559022
  3. There's a very good chance that a well run firm could do that job cheaper than you can. 5 conifers at 5 feet plus the stumps ain't going to take vey long at all. less than an hour easy. I could probably do that for around £120 if it's close by the yard and they don't mind it being a job to drop onto to fill in etc. Although someone could do it for £100 and spend the day mashing it up, taking it to the tip and digging the stumps out on their own. You won't be ripping him off no matter what you charge if that's what you need to do the job.
  4. Acceptable to me and probably most people I have ever worked with.
  5. Tbh I wouldn't bother getting one. I tried it out and iirc(it was a awhile ago and with a 14" bar) it would stall in larger timber more often and was really annoying. Although I use the 020 for cutting decent sized timber before I need the 046 so if you do have a smaller bar and mainly use it on small timber it should be better.
  6. Your right there. if you look through the manual I posted it has a section on how to test the output from the stator. The control basically has a pos and neg feed, a single feed from the stator then a double feed out to the AS solenoid.
  7. Yep, I like to smash them into little pieces. Same with a bramble that just wont let go!!!!
  8. I think it's more to do with mental health problems than just a lack of hygiene tbh. It's unbelievable the conditions that some people live in when they clearly don't have to. We often come across gardens like that when working for HA's and it is probably the hazard that I dislike the most about the job. Just have to scoop it all to one side and get on with the job unfortunately.
  9. If the battery isn't charging then the autosweep probably doesn't work as it relies on the feed from the stator (which is the main bit of the charging circuit) to work out the engine speed etc. If the belts are slack and the auto sweep isn't working(and your used to using the AS) then it will grind really badly. Did you check the compressions of the cylinders and check the condition of the spark plugs?
  10. How on earth can a chainsaw on tick over be 'dangerous' enough to loose an arm? or do any other damage for that matter. And people complain the HSE are being too over cautious.
  11. Really? I just couldnt be doing with that at all tbh. Plus RSI from starting the saw constantly could also be a problem. If there is going to be quite awhile from one cut to the next I will switch it off but generally its running most of the time im in the tree, never ever caused a problem. Plus its not always best for the life of the engine to swtich it off after its been used hard, ticking over for a minute or two will cool it down a bit. Anyway if it works for you then no worries.
  12. So do you switch the saw off after every cut?
  13. I thought Stihl and Husky insist that you have a shop to sell from so the above couldnt be done. If it was truly a safety issue then fair enough for chainsaws etc but not for a box of files and some chain oil. I also dont think it helps your local small dealers as they probably cant get such a good rate when buying in bulk from the manufactures so will always be more expensive than you big retailers. Its strange they way you dont see dewalt, hitachi, bosch, makita etc etc (who make some fairly dangerous power tools) pushing this type of online sales policy idea.
  14. Thats doesnt sound very good. What does the engine sound like? Does it run well on full revs with no load? does it tick over smoothly?
  15. Looks like Meripilus to me.

    MS201 Review

Cheers for the review and info The above in bold doesn't sound very good at all though. The early 020's had the exact same problem! Thats progress for you.
  17. Only a total idiot would do that.
  18. This type of thing has cropped up on many occasions in one guise or another. I have yet to hear of someone not getting paid out by defaulting somehow on their insurance. I have asked insurance companies to try and clear up the not complying with HSE not being insured but funnily enough they never seem to take an interest:001_rolleyes:

  20. The size and access of 99% of customers gardens. There is feck all you can do about that.
  21. Well since this is Arbtalk and not Treetalk I would that we are all Arborists, so read the rules:deal: or the police will be on the way to turf you out:post:
  22. A manual for the kohler engine. Kohler Engine Manaual.pdf
  23. Who else are we supposed to call! Ghostbusters or the A-Team?. Come on, being a copper is like being a nurse, doctor, fire service etc etc, it's a vocational job. Anyone there just for the money shouldn't be. No doubt the police do have a very tough job but they don't exactly help themselves alot of the time to win public favour which they really, really do need if they are to carry out thier job efficiently. I bet a simple explanation of why they did what they did and not a "it woulda been worse for you and your brother if I was there" idiotic attitude would have probably been a much better way to go.
  24. You can buy purpose made repair putty/epoxy for plastic fuel tanks. something like these. [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Petro-patch-Plastic-Metal-repair/dp/B002YTLTDM]Petro patch, Plastic and Metal fuel tank repair: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike[/ame] Or, in the past I have used a soldering iron to melt the plastic if its a very small crack and also used the epoxy steel putty which you get in most car shops for around £6.
  25. The key word there being 'abroad' I think I would give the job up if we had to stack brash. I hardly ever bother stacking it behind the chipper, I would rather the chipper ran with nothing going through it for a bit than stack and chip in one hit.
