  1. Get yourself up in a MEWP, that will make you realise being tied into a tree is much, much better! I would say keep all you climbing gear very simple, you don't want krabs and pulleys rattling about everywhere if your still learning to trust the gear. A side strop, and a prussik with one krab on your main line will make things very simple and very easy to check. You can then move on to the more technical stuff that will make your life easier but don't leave that too late like me or you will never get used to it. Good luck and persevere.
  2. I very much doubt it for brash but it would work for timber if you have a grab wagon. Brash takes up too much space and there is no way I would stack it, its way quicker to chip it as it moves imo, plus there is never enough room to stack it anyway.
  3. Sawdust can get trapped and build up between the metering diaphragm and the diaphragm cover. This pushes on the diaphragm opening the inlet valve which allows fuel into the cylinder. Well happened on my 046 and was easily sorted.
  4. Its all to do with age. When you get older you will realise not to swing at them a second time.
  5. Its the newer type. I will do as you say and keep the oem until runs v poor.

Crossers are expensive! I was hoping to buy one for under £500! No fecking chance
  7. The tester is only a cheapo gunson but tried earlier on a 026 which is old but a good saw it read 160. The 3120 is a runner but was cold. I think i will order a new aftermarket pot and piston as it does/will need one and then try a comparison.

Made me start looking at buying another crosser. Havent had one for 20 years!
  9. Cheers for the info.
  10. If your buying a big saw buy a stihl. The reliability factor is a big plus. A big saw breaking down is not what you want, it will screw the job right up and cost a packet too. 066/660.
  11. Thats what I sort of thought but was hoping to get a bit of science behind it. If its correct then trees have thinner bark when necessary but can then thicken it if required. Which would make sense but ive seen lord of the rings and trees seem to take an age to do anything. Just wondering if any studies have been done etc.
  12. Did a compression test on the 3120 today and it was showing 150psi which I think is a bit low but any info on what it should be?
  13. That would be enough for me to not work there. I dont break stuff but hate that attitude that some bosses have.
  14. My question doesn't directly relate to the OPs question but, what if the employer took a vid of an employee performing a section fell(all above board and the employee knew about it etc) and kept it on file. Would that not be proof enough that they are competent rather than say removing a few branches on an NPTC assessment? Surely it would prove competency if that's all the HSE are worried about etc. I know I would prefer to see someone actually do the job in hand than rely on a ticket. Just something I've thought about since many people seem to now want the tickets when in the 'old' days no one could be bothered going on the course and just wanted to get on with the job.
  15. I think the attitude of the copper even after it was all explained to him says it all. 'the sergeant I spoke to said was that if it had been him who stopped my brother he would have been arrested and charged!'
  16. Thanks. I might get one for the 046 and add an extra link in the chains.
  17. Thanks fellas. Meant to add mine has the extra tooth but I wasnt sure if it was 7,8,9 etc.
  18. I think the standard is 7 teeth with an 'upgrade' available with 8 teeth, can anyone confirm this? Thanks
  19. Good to see a lot of time and resources wasted for no good reason whatsoever. How do couriers manage to get away with delivering these highly dangerous weapons then! I find it quite unbelievable, do we need lawful authority to buy and transport kitchen knifes, shears, carpenters saws etc etc etc etc etc etc. Did you ask why they werent out chasing 'real' criminals?
  20. My quest for easy tree climbing could be around the corner! Well sort of, its getting cold enough in the UK for it to work.
  21. How does the increase in light shock/kill the tree? How does the tree react to prevent this when the amount of extra light is progressively introduced? All interesting stuff.
  22. Sounds like will have to drag it out, maybe electric winch. You might have to move the track levers as though you are tying to move it forward to open any valves. It will just make it easier to move. Or, just call a specialist hydraulic repair company who don't mind getting their hands dirty.
  23. Because they can multitask:001_rolleyes: There is a name for those type of climbers. A good climber can keep 2-3 groundies busy, a bad climber can keep 10 busy.
  24. Any climber that doesnt get stuck in needs a right good slapping out of the site. Anyone that complains about a chinstrap just shoudlnt be allowed on site in the first place.
  25. Its made of aluminium so I dont think that will apply. Nice info though. I usually have trouble keeping the wood in the wedge!
