  1. Finance would be for me the option every time. Hire purchase for tax is a good break and you end up with a decent machine if you look after it. Apr from banks is a killer! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  2. That plane looks very healthy!! My reply was more in regards to old trees in decline,if I ever go back to north herts I will try and get some pics of some veteran pollard oaks that have had cable issues if they are still standing! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  3. I've seen a few cobras fail , not ones I've installed I will add!! Metal cable I have witnessed failures have all been in oak and chestnut which bracing with metal there's a pretty good chance it will fail as the tannin in the tree eats the metal. Beech is a perfect tree to install invasive bracing too as long as the cables the right grade for the job. It's also worth noting on older trees invasive bracing is a pretty bad idea Imo as it is not capable of compartmentalising wounds sufficiently with age ,I have seen bracing on mature and veteran trees pull due to this as well. 4. How much were you paying your lad ? I very quickly realised if you got a keeper up the wages or they walk and having a good groundy is as essential to having a good climber in are work so worth every penny. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  5. To me the 240 looks like timberwolf stripped down a quad chip and copied all the bits they liked ... So can't be a bad machine. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  10. Dud you read the OP's first post or just the tittle. I would go with any of those but the stihl and lean mostly towards the dolmar and husky 550xp myself but if in your shoes and owning a few husky auto tune saws they can be finicky in the hands of less experienced users, they are a true pro saw .... So that leaves you with the dolmar/ makita Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  11. Are you climbing off a swivel on your harness ? I find that will cause the worse twisting I have witnessed with some new ropes. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  12. I'm sure most customers don't know what bs3998 is, but I do feel its are duty if quoting for such works to explain it to them. Have found 9 out of 10 will actually listen. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  13. I had 1out of 7 that didnt split !! and it had sat for two years so was not entirely green. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  14. You like 372's then! Spud ported 395 is easily a match for an 880 ..and a Lot lighter. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  17. With 3 or more people depending on you being there on site I think it is ...and as for the complaint about form filling ...usually after a hard days graft and a belly full of saw dust it will be all we do once home from work , more planning apps more invoices quotes and forms on forms ... so the less time I spend in saw shops dealing with cretins who think I owe them some thing as they are an almighty stihl dealer the better. 18. Exactly tom , neither would I !! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  19. Listen to Ian and Tom !! Most of us shop on line for convenience!!! it saves us hours off the day and my time is money and to be honest I don't have time to chat bollox get mugged off on prices and then wait two weeks for what I want only then to drive back wasting more fuel and time weeks later to pick it up.. Online all the way for me ,but I won't be buying any stihl gear any way after the performance of the gear I've brought in the last 5 years and the arrogance of there people I have dealt with to get it right. 20. Gone are the days where stihl dealers are driving Porsches with personal plates ... Looks like they have to really work for it now maybe that's why are Scottish friend is so resentful, but I'm not sure why he's putting it on here ??? As so far his only argument for keeping sales local was for an old guy with an fs50 so it looks like he can't even grasp his customers using arbtalks needs.. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  21. Is it Aprils fools ? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  22. Well it was a freebie after mine got stolen but was ok but was a big step backwards after using a well maintained and low hours tw150 ... I've used a lot worse!! If your serious about buying a chipper I would definitely consider putting the money on a deposit and paying off hire purchase. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  23. I used one the other day with a broken no stress worn out rollers and dodgey controls .... Better than no chipper!! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  24. You can work without it but you will have to stand by the chipper with a keen ear ready to hit the reverse or stop. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  25. Stops the engine revs from dropping so usually it will stop the feed rollers from feeding ,giving the engine a chance to pick up speed .... If it's not fitted it will pull in a piece of timber until the revs drop so low the engine stalls. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
