Chains too tight and it's not a 540xp ... I had a carving bar on the old 200 and have just swapped it back for a 12" and put it against the 540 in the log stack last night ...the 540 destroys the 200t

Have owned 4 sets of different spikes and never sharpened any of them .. Should not be a problem??

The thing I find is climbing on a vt with rope guide I dont break a sweat to pull my self up and around a tree.. I try the same with SRT and working off a rope wrench and I end up a sweaty knackered mess... Maybe its to late for me to change but I would like to compare the two in a work climb with you one day Adam.

I got the rope wrench ! I stick with that but may give you a shout on that tommy.

Dropped a big dead chestnut first thing then winched over and skidded out some beech in the afternoon... Had a test out on a mates schliesing and came back to Mikey sparko on a beech stick.

Aghhh I get it now there was no link when I first viewed.. I think I may have come to a similar conclusion drunk once about DRT being safer because I'm crap at SRT and only use it for access, have tried work climbing on it a few times and it was not really working for me, I would like to see dan Curtis or some one who knows what they are really doing on it climb to give me an idea on what I'm supposed to do, maybe I will stick with it for a week and see what happens as I said and did the same about climbing on a vt and now I won't climb on anything else...

Lost a 338 once it was assumed to have been stolen and turned up in the wood chip pile 2 months later when it was being pushed up ... Same saw disappeared again a month later never to be seen again.. Only saw ever to have been lost.

I'm still wearing these after replacing the Velcro after some one ran over my first pair and Steve kindly donated me them, so that must be 8-9 years of service and they still have a good few years left .. And I'm not really bothered about what surface they are walked on but then again who would walk around in any spikes if your not in a tree... I'm inclined to think the wear on aluminium spikes would be the same if not worse as its softer than carbon.

Dan what gear would you take SRT wise in to the trees for a normal days work?

Just a thought but would it not be a lot less likely to do any damage to the loop if you choked a bungee strop directly to it. That carabiner has got to put so much more stress on the loop than a soft link... I can think the only time I had a saw strop loop fail was on an ms200 with a carabiner directly linked.. I did for a while after put a small length of double 8mm cord through the loop for a direct connector but still think the bungee strops with rings are just as easy to use.

Chuck the spark arrestor and get a full chisel. I think the tech lite bars are pretty good , better than the ones that if come with any other saw.

No groundy and phone said 100% chance of rain ... Although it is raining I feel bad I've dwindled the afternoon playing cod instead of quoted and invoices tree reports and all that!

Its so light I can't see that .. Plus if I throw the saw I'll catch it on a strop I and stick it on a harness hook so its close and you really don't notice a 150 on your harness , not cannonball it around the the tree. But they do break easily..

Possibly .. Can't really give an opinion I suppose with out seeing it up close.. Possible root damage looks like old dryads saddle brackets in amongst the cavity? Hard to tell from photos but it just reminds me of that rogue traders where the guy knocking on doors is giving it "yeah its honey fungus,got to come down love" selling pitch.

If your skidding out big enough logs even with weights attached on the nose of the tractor the front wheels don't do a lot !

Asparagus makes good money and uses the same beds for 10 years or more, down side is its seasonal and takes a few years to get going. Pick your strawberries.
