  1. What point are you trying to make ? Read your app one forms
  2. It does when there's british standards for tree work and the one in your photo is not following any of them....my tree officers would never give you permission to work on a tree again if you did that around here unless there was an extremely good reason and never in my working life would I sell that as a reduction or pollard, its a hat rack topping job plain and simple. Check some shigo books to explain why, a guide to modern arboriculture is a good start.
  3. That's what I'm thinking ... The reactionary growth is going to be explosive and create a worse problem within a year or two.
  4. It could of possibly snapped the drive off the engine I've seen an hs80 do this ... It's pretty much junk if that's the case unless you have a spare with a blown engine.
  5. Or sow up the stitching when it falls apart ... They surely still don't make those?
  6. Didn't think the last production run of them was too bad 39cc and 2.3 hp and 1lb lighter than a 201 .!! Unfortunately they never got over the stigma of the the 335 and early 338's that clearly was deserved but Got sick of 200t carbs going on critical jobs every 6 months so gave one a go and was relatively happy until it got stolen , apart from its some what brittle plastics and the electrocution from worn ht lead with broken cover bit! It was not a bad little saw.
  7. The thing about sharpening chains is that you learn by making mistakes and the experience of using a saw.. It is such a shame that training has become a mass industry and you have to have all these tickets to apparently even get on site when it should be IMO that these lads and lasses have to do atleast a minimum of 6-12 months work experience before sitting any Nptc to actually grasp what's going on around them and what will be expected , that way as employers we will not be getting I'm a fully qualified Jedi saw cutter blah blah to find out that my terrier probably has more of an idea if what's going on with a saw.. It's probably wrong but I give any new employer atleast 8 months on the ground using a saw under supervision and talking them through as much as possible before I would put them in for nptcs... After that they almost have free rain still would not trust my latest with my 560 though
  8. That's true I don't get people that want to make enemy's in tree work.. Got a few jobs booked in the diary helping other firms out ,I enjoy it so does my groundy and makes a nice change working with different teams. We all have to quote against each other, you either get the job or you don't its no big deal unless it's done very underhand. Two chippers and more hands are better than one!
  9. And to think you were worried about not getting close to last years efforts ...outstanding mate , glad your hard work has seriously profited this year.. Will dig out my card for a few tickets more!
  10. Went to a conifer nursery this morning and picked up these , the pines a bit ropey but I like the idea of bleaching some dead wood and making snags. If your in the herts beds Cambs area I really recommend amenity tree nursery in arlsey they have an absolute amazing variety of conifers some very rare. These are my three chosen. Think I'll start on the pine.
  11. He has you to guide him though Dave
  12. I would like to add that you can have the best saw in the world but if you can't sharpen it properly its a complete waste of time and money ..I have seen a vast majority of saw ops who can't sharpen a saw or diagnose what it needs to keep optimum cutting abilities then complain ..
  13. Get a pro stihl or husky without auto tune .. Unless you have loads of experience snedding and felling I would go with a basic stihl or non auto tune husky, untill you get your confidence up and can go ripping it up with a fire snorting 550 or 560 as they need to be ran hard and will not run right unless reved flat out and with a good chain.
  14. I would love A pop at it with an Alaskan ...I recon it would kill a band saw blade though.
  15. One handing, splitting or driving wedges , silky pruning and Slim ropes..one handing especially inflames mine lucky it only just started getting bad before Christmas break with the last two climbs of the year , always keeping a sports support in the van helps as well I have found.
  16. The scabbards are good for when sugoi ones brake ... That's about the only positive I can give on them I'm afraid.
  17. Bah I recon it was all in the advancing the timing! Things mental now though
  18. Auto tune ,I love it !! But to get the best from your saw do not leave the saw on idle ticking over for long periods , one dealer told me they had one that had problems and when they read the auto tune diagnostic the saw had spent more time ticking over than running. I would also say they are a one person saw as mine seams to run crap if I give it to a newly cs passed groundy for half hour , maybe I should buy him a stihl... These saws like and need to be ran properly not gingerly cutting at half revs.
  19. I'm disappointed I always wanted a pink day glow rope.
  20. I did the 540 by not letting off the throttle for five minutes burying it in a 20" stick , did the same with the 560 , neither have been any bother at all good strong saws .
  21. Sorry to hijack the thread but what is the max size forwarding trailer you would run on one of these tractors?
  22. Read a bit mate I would like to find out more I know my second cousin is doing a lot of research in to it but I very rarely see him.
