  1. I'm still looking forward to seeing your CHP plant john, sounded very interesting. I'm still not convinced you can get your chip to your plant for under £40 per tonne, which would buy you a lot of guarenteed chip supply...
  2. Double handling compared to what?
  3. Its hard to explain to someone without them having actually done it, but when you grapple and stack brash on a forwarder, its essentially as dense as a bale anyway. And the point we're trying to make is that even WITH a bailer its not worth doing unless your being subsidized. Biomass operations only really works if its done in conjunction with conventional roundwood harvesting.
  4. Yeah guys, thanks for giving away trade secrets.
  5. Yes. PM me the details?
  6. Good luck with that....
  7. Latest films are marvellous, a return to the hardcase Bond of the books. Anybody into the original novels? great pulp fiction... My personal favourite line from Bond, after strangling bad guy on stairs Barman - 'would you like that martini shaken or stirred?' Bond -' do I really look like I give a sh*t!?'
  8. Open Range was a great film. The Proposition was a great story of Austrailia, brutal uncompromising film. Written by Nick Cave. Of Deadwood... Is this THE most brutal and probably realistic fight scene ever filmed? Be warned, not for the squemish... [ame] [/ame]

    Rip offs

Funny. People think nothing of paying big bucks for fancy trainers and mountain botts, but get in a huff over high tech forestry boots costing more than they like. My salamon walking boots were £130. My skiing boots (worn 1 week a year) cost £300. My casual boots cost £120. My current Pfanner / airstream / tyrol boots cost £175 and are like slippers, and I spend 50 - 60 hours a week in them. Guess which is better value? For those that dont like the price, you can get Fellsmans for £75. Good luck with that.
  10. Aspen? Nothing wrong with softwood. As Steve Bullman pointed out recently, people have become far to fussy about what kind of wood they want...
  11. If you want a good fuelwood chipper, I would look at spending a tad more than £17k. As for combustion of brash, the high sulfer and chlorine content comes from the chlorophyl contained in the leaf matter. once thats browned, the chemical composition changes and it becomes safe to burn in boilers. Also, even properly designed 25kw boilers can burn leafy chip if they ar eof a two pass design with ceramic lined combustion chamber, as the combustion temperature is high enough to consume the noxious chemicals.
  12. By Cords, do you mean roundwood?
  13. Interesting. whats the full spec? does that add a lot of cost to the base unit chipper?
  14. Interesting. I need a skyline soon too. Whatcha doin Alex?
  15. Trees would'nt fight. They sort things out democratically. There is unrest in the forest, There is trouble with the trees, For the maples want more sunlight And the oaks ignore their pleas. The trouble with the maples, (And they're quite convinced they're right) They say the oaks are just too lofty And they grab up all the light. But the oaks can't help their feelings If they like the way they're made. And they wonder why the maples Can't be happy in their shade. There is trouble in the forest, And the creatures all have fled, As the maples scream "Oppression!" And the oaks just shake their heads So the maples formed a union And demanded equal rights. "The oaks are just too greedy; We will make them give us light." Now there's no more oak oppression, For they passed a noble law, And the trees are all kept equal By hatchet, axe, and saw.
  16. I wonder if its at all possible that this thread can be answered by facts (and referances to back them up) or the usuall round of opinions.....
