  1. Cool - why the unusual cuts on the stem?
  2. Don't you need to cuddle up to a unicender or something then
  3. Good job. If you clean all those stubs off you will find that the ropes run better (got snagged at 4.30ish) & it is much safer as you can fall & land on one all too easily.
  4. I simply pointed out that it does not provide control. It does however help to prevent splitting with free grained species such as euc, ash, willow etc with head leaners. Euc hinges well, but does have a tendancy to split if you put too much load on the hinge wood.
  5. The point of a dog tooth cut is to prevent splitting not control as you have to guess on required hinge size
  6. It is a LOLER fail - the device will not function as designed good idea - I have used tape before, but that seems like an improvement.
  7. If it goes the wrong way, your gonna be surprised
  8. Island - on my own............... I choose my Mrs - better company, more fulfilling & sounds better ( even on a bad day) than a noisy crappy chainsaw
  9. Good job. Nice to see someone climbing right up the tree & dismantling it in manageable sized bits. A good lesson for up & coming climbers.
  10. Those firs look really dusty trees to cut - the bark no doubt. Nice job Reg - did it have enough fibre strength to hold a decent hinge?
  11. Spot on. " I don't top trees or wear spikes on a prune" yet will put a couple of tonnes on a transit & risk it. I'm not risk adverse, however I hate giving the government money in fines & sit at home not earning when they impound my vehicle
  12. Attach winch & pull the butt. Looks like you can tear it apart. Fun & less chance of getting squished!
  13. 3ft on 3/8th works fine - just don't expect to chase the cut
  14. Great step by step record of a serious job Reg & thanks for sharing. The vertical feet climbed sounds almost as daunting as the trees. Do you use normal rigging lines for tensioning the trees, or dedicated lower stretch lines?
  15. Nice control over a big chunk of timber. Good job Benn
  16. I have got better things to do, than waste energy on a few spike holes. I will sit & enjoy spring watch & let the tree nazis rant at the screen
  17. Great looking truck. I worked with dodge 50's for years. True workhorses. I would get a cover on that winch, plasma line does not like being exposed to UV - keeps all the road dirt & salt off it too
  18. Yeah sorry Mike. It's amazing what chaos can be created, when people don't follow basic instructions
  19. On a serious note, the details when applying for work often make the difference between work & not. I hope you get some good applicants Mike, seems like a good offer for the right person
  20. Hahaha - you can't fix stupid, but thankfully when your the boss you don't have to employ it
  21. I run & service 20plus Stihl machines. That is going to become increasingly difficult for me to continue in an efficient & a cost effective manner. The purchase of new machines is one issue, but the restriction in spares & sundries is insane. The simple fact is that our purchasing policy will change. This will effect what chains we purchase, trousers we wear & what machines we purchase. Our work cannot & will not be disrupted by the abstract policies of a single company.
  22. Hot air gun . Hair dryers not hot enough
  23. Good job Tim
