  1. That makes sense now. It is often hard to ask question after question without appearing to be chasing an agenda. Your thoughts, queries etc on subjects (that are very grey to say the least) helps us all understand a little more & it would be a shame if those, like ourselves did not ask questions & challenge things Pete
  2. Reading your prior posts (including those from other threads), you really do appear to have a vendetta against the zig-zag & now it's new variants, along with a major fixation with certification. Without innovation there can be no development...................
  3. Nice Tom, how well does it work?
  4. LA(day job) - 14 husky & 17 stihl (inc blowers & polesaws) - home 6 stihls W.Yorks
  5. They don't seem to get the real point. Tree work needs to pursue excellence - not the pursuit of legislation & collection of arbitrary certificates. However, It will create a two tier industry & alienate those involved, but they must know that already..............
  6. The ovals are perfect for such a job- they load point to point. Simple additions of rubber bandits helps prevent rotation when not under load
  7. Nice job Reg. I'm really enjoying the more relaxed & real outlook of your footage.
  8. That is some really tidy metal work.
  9. A comparison; Over a 5 year period a class 1 driver has to have a minimum of 37hours tuition. The BS is getting universal Who though is this aimed at? Those who work in the woods week in, week out ? or those who are deemed occasional users. The ones that pick up a saw every year or so & retain little of the knowledge of running & maintaining a saw. The latter I think
  10. The larger one will be for the pulley. As you will learn, there is approx twice the force at the rigging point than the bollard.
  11. Someone importing K&H and Hardheads would be nice. I only have a couple of the hardheads left
  12. A day with a good instructor is never wasted IMO. No fixed agenda - just see where the day leads you. Do you really need 2/3/4 days?
  13. Ran a PNW 2101 - alot of saw - but built for felling alot of tree.
  14. Might head down for the day, seems like a day out
  15. Always a good thing to read your cuts. Why not - good idea
  16. Dan did bring it to the fore, but the system has been around for years. If you are struggling for height, you could try micro filament & a smaller bag - I have seen it hit insane height
  17. If a harness has been used for 5 years & in constant use, then in my books it has made me enough money to be replaced. Usable life can be extended on some equipment, but it is in exceptional circumstances in my book, not the norm.
  18. Nice job Tim & loved the reflection off the vehicle - nice touch
  19. Agreed. Training can be too prescriptive & not open peoples to the variations & subtleties that make the job soooooooo much easier
  20. GOL - game of logging is much nearer how things are run here than the other side of the pond. Both have there benifits & both seem to suit the type of harvesting perfectly. I'd not want to work softwoods here in the UK with a full wrap handle, long bar & skip chain, on the flip i'd not want to fell a massive cedar with a 346. Nice to share the knowledge
  21. Nice pics & some nice chippers
  22. Sorry to hear your sad news. I also have lost close friends on motorbikes
  23. The "fans" that fit on the rotor are balance pairs I seem to remember. With TW's having bearing as robust as cream cheese, I would do anything to look after them & fit new suitable parts
  24. For static lifting, why not. It Is not for dynamic work
