When i first heard it, I rejected it also, however it does make sense

A higher back-cut is only needed if there is a danger of the tree sliding back off the stump (Americans call it stump-shot) , apart from that it is detrimental to the felling process. e.g. It increases the length of fibers needed to flex in the felling process - therefore you need to cut the hinge much finer to committ the tree which means less control as the hinge is more likely to break

I cannot think of a device that could do this. You would have to use a friction bollard or something similar manned by someone really switched on. If you were to overpull the rope with the boat, any system would probably be destroyed without a breakaway

What problems did you have with smaller 11.1mm ropes & which did you try?

Knots are perfectly good for most applications. It's reading the instructions & finding out the few that are not

On the hich climber, the termination knot can interfere with the hitch, releasing it.

I still can't believe that people are still risking it using the hitch-climber with a knot - especially a fisherman's. Stupid does not hurt as often as it should it seems

The greenmech 1928 is an exceptional machine - in both mobility/stability due to the safetrack system & chipping performance. Only downside is the poor chip quality due to the disc blade, but most of the time this is irrelevant. I would be hesitant to use any larger track machine on a trailer - The safety bars etc might be at the wrong height & the stress & vibration would not be great on a chassis not constructed to withstand it.

Where stem diameter allows I try & use my adjustable cambium saver below my wire-core. Makes for a smooth trouble free escape/descent. Which is more than I can say for descending on a single rope after a running bowline has been tied on one end. You need something like a rope wrench or a fig 8. It's all in the planning

Samsons stable braid is a good product ; Product As are the trio of Yale lines. When dry & seasoned it is one of the best fire woods going. Needs to be dry though

Arbor comms are great - BUT........ They only work as a pair so I would never buy them. I'd sooner give every person on site a walkie-talkie & save the money

Good job. Have you not considered a simple back-cut as opposed to face cut/hinge. Would avoid difficult seperation as face closes & you would get a much smoother commitment towards the face/rigging point. Easy & simple can be the best way forward
