  1. The good old days..... Or not - too hard & too silly - I'll have another glass of wine& remember them through rose tinted specs
  2. Stand on your spikes - don't stamp them in. No rush - take it easy. Try and keep approx arms length from stem & relax. It's a fun part of the job to learn
  3. The hitch is a working part of the device - if you removed it the dog bone (bar the hitch is attached too) would not on the rope
  4. I have a very early HH. I see it's value - access the tree srt & then change over to dDRT to get some work done. Unless it it is of typically upright character then I'm not a fan of srt working
  5. I fail to see how working that tree srt is superior to dDRT? If you were wrecking & on spikes then perfect but......? Slack tending a tight line on any srt system is hard work IMO
  6. Cool job:thumbup1:
  7. Cutting heavy long laterals can be the biggest test of a climber. Sharp saw & good cuts are the only way
  8. The new ones are just to test if your IQ is in double figures I don't mind them - no idiot overtightening & needing to use a combi spanner on a shredded cap. The oil caps on 020ts used to vibrate open occasionally too.
  9. Look forward to it
  10. a plan worth considering
  11. Always longer than you think. Big trees produce more chip, more timber, more sawdust etc. They also fatigue climbers, require bigger saw & bigger rigging. So....... Make allowances for all of the above I would not consider a 2 man team viable on such a job. Minimum of 3 & if alot of timber & brash can be free-falled then a climber can keep 3 or 4 groundies honestly employed.
  12. NIce job. Why did you use a dog-tooth cut when you had to pull the stem over?
  13. I got one for a 660, but never for an older saw
  14. Can you not order a dual port muffler from a Stihl dealer?
  15. If your flipline is at full extension then what? Send the guy back to the truck for the bolt croppers? If you use a hitch & a pulley then you need a cuttable link for the same reason. If you cut the hitch then the pulley will run to the end of the line & remain captive.
  16. I was lucky to have a lesson form a guy called Eric Schatz - here he is teaching Dave [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJJUTu-plYQ]Eric Schatz Flipline Demo - YouTube[/ame]
  17. As been said lean back & relax. You should try & keep approx an arms length distance from the stem. Will seem weird at first. With the geckos try not to stamp you foot in, they have a narrow tip & usually seat in with little more than body weight. Hope this helps
  18. Plastic. Easier to hit in, less damage to the chain & if matching can be stacked
  19. Who (apart from those in the R2 steering group) actually wants this for the industry?
  20. Arborist - they have a real sense of humour here
  21. Work out how much money he can make you
  22. Try Treequip - he's out that way
  23. Arrived today. Many thanks
  24. Agreed. Shame you would need a class I HGV ticket to pull it
  25. Long sleves? How many washes are the Hi-Viz ones good for?
