    Rapeseed oil from the supermarket. Just gotta turn the oiler up a bit, but at £1 per litre, not a problem. I do have some of Clarkes bio oil that I save for the 660 - helps on the 3ft bar

    Sounds like bogies & snot with added minty flavour - how could anyone even consider eating that ! (guts churning thinking about it)

    I disagree Jon. When run in & with a nice sharp chain a 66 will happily run with a 36" bar. If you wanted to run it cross cutting all day, everyday then the 88 will certainly last longer, although the fuel bill might be a little steep.

    Branston beans, good wholemeal bread covered with butter & marmite. Black pepper & grate a load of cheese on top & you have a top feed

    Interesting read Tom. I usually say I do tree work, when asked, as I find labels are restrictive in some ways. I never found a term that suited me better than climber & cutter.

    Varitrack is much more than width. The independent vertical movement of each track is about levelling too, which is essential for not only safe feeding the machine, but also helps access places that you would never dream of taking a normal machine.

    Poor since January - back working in the woods. There seems a definite downturn, especially in the domestic market

    I have wasted enough of the moderators time over the years, deleting insulting posts, editing them & wasting more of there time telling me that I was out of order. I realised that if I wanted to stay here, I had to wind my neck in & relax as opposed to being dumped out on my ear. This place is all about everyone being reasonable - even I can work that out

    I am running a 441 with an 18" bar - medium size hardwoods. I cut a lot of trees on steep ground & find that due to the extra power, you sometimes have to avoid cutting with a pushing chain

    At least a bit of spring cleaning. Would it really hurt to keep personal issues away from the publicity of a forum? I know it can be difficult, but if someone annoys you to the extent of wanting to flame them, why not just put them on ignore. It does help - i have a couple of people that are blissfully no longer read & there is no friction as a result

    Or just your nails even - anything but put soap or similar on them. If you get a ring around the bite - like a bulls-eye then it's off to the quacks ASAP for some anti-biotics.

    Is the works indicated what the customer wants? Also, are the works mitigating a potential issue with the tree? Why not work to the spec & collect your rewards for your hard work. It is how a tree service makes money & pays you your rent & beer tokens at the end of the week I'd not waste my time & energy on worrying about it. If you put in the application, then choose what spec you want & your approach to the tree work.

    Agreed - but how does the force change with the attachment of the rope (as long as it is below the COG)?

    That is incorrect N. The force acts through the centre of gravity of the piece, not the butt end, so, as long as it is tied below the centre of gravity, then where is irrelevant as the distance from the hinge (fulcrum point) to the COG remains constant. Hope that makes sense

    Agreed John. Crane/hiab work is not supposed to be dynamic in any way. It is about smooth lifts & where possible the pick should remain static when cut

    Great for pruning. You had to practically stop the Lord flow in your feet with the spike stamps to stop the sliding off the non exist ant heel !

    Would it not function really well on 1/2inch 16 strand? Edit just seen that they recommend double braid - my bad.
