Roadside sycamore winch fell from this week. One farmer making things hard work so had to change plans and fell tree into a different field! Haven't used this grab in years! Maybe 8 or so and got it out to sell on. Used it on this job and thought it was mega handy! Saves messing about with forks and timber sliding about. Might just keep it now 😆

Not sure I can help much on brackets as ours is a fixed vertical saw with moving carriage I'm presuming yours is a horizontal with a moving saw unit

Welcome to the world of log burners, frustrating because you see trees all around but no wood in your drive. You can add yourself to the tip sites (link above). These work well if a tree surgeon wants to get rid of 'waste' - usually softwoods but these burn well. Usually only if the tree surgeon is working outside their usual area - locally they will have arrangements in place for regular waste disposal. So it works but you won't be turning them away. One thing to note is adding a consideration - a donation or whatever - for them - it might make your advert stand out. Also note that for example if you live in the middle of a road with a tip site at either end, why would they drive extra to get to you. The fewer barriers you can add the better, an open drive where they can reverse into will get better results than 'chuck the logs over the garden wall', or 'phone to get the gate opened'. Second thing to think about is that (for now) chainsaws are not quiet - you can usually hear them working nearby if you are out and about outside - can take a walk in that direction and ask directly - you never know but least will happen is they'll take your name and address for future reference (to be thrown out of course next time the van is tidied). Getting that first contact and building a relationship works well. Note that you won't ever get seasoned / dried oak logs (that's a lie... I did but just once) - it will likely be leylandii - but if you are happy that each log doesn't last as long, more work to split for the same heat output then take what comes your way. One thing that worked well for me till I used it all up was to ask a local land owner permission to take away a couple of fallen trees, a bit more work but it kept me warm for a winter.

Finished stacking these oak planks and will add more weight on top in due course. Before the next gale! The ends were given two coats of PVA before milling, but I also decided to spray paint one end of the quarter sawn planks to help identify which quarter of the original log they came from, so I can easily match up the four sets of planks. Planning to leave the 30 and 40mm quarter sawn planks to air dry for at least 18 months to 2 years. Will then move planks selected for a project into the workshop for about 6 months before using them so they dry further to 10% or less, with a dehumidifier running. Hoping to make several large furniture projects using this timber, but nothing designed yet. The 55mm planks will hopefully be used next summer before it’s fully air dried, for some steam bending experiments and then perhaps a couple of steam bent garden benches. Will then see what’s left. I passed my HGV license “back in the day” as well. I think it lasted for 3 years, then you had to fill a form in, pay a fee and you were good for another 3 years. I renewed a couple of times, then let it lapse, so I now have the standard old fogey’s Grandad Rights as regards driving categories. I did find this on a drivers’ forum which explains the old HGV categories. The final sentence is relevant to the OP’s question. From 1997, Great Britain adopted the new EU unified licence and categories for all new issues and the old UK HGV classes 1, 2 and 3 were replaced by category C and C+E. HGV class 3 related to rigid vehicles over 7.5 tonnes with 2 axles HGV class 2 related to rigid vehicles over 7.5 tonnes with more than 2 axles HGV class 1 related to articulated vehicles over 7.5 tonnes Class 2 and 3 licences also allowed a drawbar trailer to be towed. The new category C covered all rigid vehicles (any number of axles but without a trailer) over 3.5 tonnes and C+E covered articulated vehicles and rigid vehicles towing a drawbar trailer. At the change, drivers with old class 3 licences (2-axle rigid) gained the category C entitlement to drive rigid vehicles with any number of axles (a combination of the old class 3 and 2).

Last time I tried speaking to timberwolf technical they were absolutely not interested and said I needed to speak to my local dealer, worlds apart from when I spoke to the technical department 10 years ago they practically bent over back wards to help with my queries.
