  1. A question for the saw Gurus what size sprocket is a 390 xp supplied with as standard 7 or 8 tooth. The reason I ask is Ive fitted a jungle muffler and a carb off of a 372xt and the saw is a bit of an animal now. I wondered if it is worth upping the sprocket size for cross cutting fire wood with a 24" bar?? I would normally go to the shed and check but at work at the moment and would like to order parts before I come home:confused1:
  2. Make sure you fill the motor case with oil before you do to much with it! there has to be oil in there to lubricate swash plate etc. Fill it with the same oil as your putting through the motor. Hope the motor is in good shape.
  3. Yes Jon I would say I get between 10% and 15% more MPG with the chip.
  4. The third hose is a case drain and ideally needs to go straight to tank! as Kevm said put it in a bucket with some load on the hyd motor and you should not get a vast amount of oil coming from the drain line, if you do the motor is in bad shape!
  5. I have a 2009 Hilux invincible and I bought a chip from Torquing Diesel and the unit plugs in between the injectors and the wiring loom and a small box with its own power supply. I fitted this 4 years ago and have had no issues with it at all. I tow my double axle caravan on holiday and it weighs about 2 ton and I never come out of 5th gear on the motor way even across the A66 or up the M74. It boosted the HP to 200 and increased the torque as well! I would recommend the chip as it makes the car a different beast alltogether.
  6. It's probably like the Hilux which has no centre differential so the drive is equal to front and rear axles. When you turn the front wheels have to travel further than the rear wheels causing torque windup in the drive train. This is why they tear up the ground when in 4 wheel drive. I have towed in 4 wheel drive with the Hilux now and again and it has caused no problems so far.
  7. Do you not think that the small island we call home is a bit too densely populated to re-introduce wolves!! As for saying that we could do it in some remote part of Scotland I think the farmers and crofters that scratch a living out of quite non productive land might have something to say about another predator to kill there sheep which can do that quite well by themselves. The distances in the UK are very small as well if you think of the hunting area of a pack of wolves would need it will come in contact with Human population! The romantic idea of having wolves, bears & elk re-introduced is all very well but none of the people that think up this s%it live in these remote areas, It can't happen the bloody country is too small and densely populated.
  8. A Hilux will pull 3.5 tons but not legally. They have fallen behind in terms of towing weights. Izuzu DMax or new Ford Ranger.
  9. Depends on how much logs you are doing!! I've attached a drawing of what I used in the past. Logs 1&2 are used to support the log being cut and also it stops the chain getting damaged as it just cuts into logs 1&2. once log has been cut to length and thrown clear just roll log #4 into place on logs 1&2 and repeat as often as required or until logs run out. leg height made to suit in my case short see pdf file:001_tongue: Then made this which saves me loads of work and double handling. Document (3).pdf
  10. Hi I have a Hunter Herald 14 and when we got it we had a thermostat fitted to it and as it turns out it was fitted back to front so if I tried to shut down the fire the thermostatically controlled flap at the back of the fire would open and the hotter the water in the wrap boiler got the further the fire would open up. We had loads of hot water for baths but could not sit in the living room. The thermostatically controlled flap is at the rear of the stove L/H side if looking from the front. and if you don't have one fitted check the blank plate as it was held on with one bolt.
  11. As above, the best cure work it hard for an hour or two. Dyno is ideal but pricey as you will have to pay for mechanics time. or load a trailer with a reasonable amount and find a steep hill and drive the tractor up it in as high a gear as possible a few times and see if that cures it!! Also check the crank case breather before and after and see if it improves.
  12. Try John Adams Coach builders John Adams Coach Supplies, aluminium extrusions, sheeting, timber, steel and a wide range of commercial vehicle body fittings.
  13. As quoted if you stick to this you cant go far wrong.
  14. Love Christmas day with a bit of snow even better, it does get annoying that the buildup starts in mid-November. You got to love the lights in the towns and drive about in the evening and seeing the lengths some people go to, to outdo next doors decorations. And seeing the pure excitement of the kids the last few days and then on Christmas morning when the get there presents from Santa! Pure joy I know it’s supposed to be about the birth of Christ but I don't know him or met him so for me it is all about the kids!! Callum PS it is annoying when the kids say I got loads from Santa and this is all I got from you!!
  15. Why use a lathe to machine the bar studs. If you have a drill and a grinder what to do is put your drill in a vice to hold it and put the stud in the chuck. turn the drill in the opposite direction of your grinder at as high a speed as possible and grind the required amount off of the collar on the stud. it will not give the finish of a lathe but its only a power saw bar mount. Should save a bit of time

    Smokers.

Packed it in 4 years ago with the help of patches. Then after 2 weeks kept forgetting to put the patches on so didn't bother with them after that. But there are days that I could still go one. I think you will stop if you want to! the correct frame of mind and attitude helps and if ecigs help go for it. Good luck Callum
  17. If your looking for hard material for blades I use Whites Material handling in Bristol Whites Material Handling, Bristol - Home and use cutting edges for buckets.
  18. You will need to make sure the volume of the tank is 2 times pump flow and have enough spare capacity for all the large cylinders when they are fully retracted (volume of cylinder end - rod end). If you have a lot of large cylinders this could mount up to a large volume of oil. Your looking at a large tank! Are you going to pressurise the tank. And is the tank going to be mounted higher than the pump. If not the the swash plate pumps don't like to have any restrictions in the suction line or they can draw air/cavitate this would destroy the pump smartish. Is this a firewood processor your building?? If so keep us posted
  19. Log splitter. Use too much wood to split with an axe.
  20. Here is photos of the exhaust. Got a 372 xt carb to try but haven't had time yet
  21. You want a quad with a high and low gearbox and if you are going to be towing a trailer you want a quad with a fixed back axle so the tongue weight of the trailer goes directly on to the axle and will provide more grip. If you get one with independent suspension the trailer tongue weight will go on to the chassis and make it handle like a pig.
  22. It's a louvre out the top of the muffler. There is absolutely no restriction or baffles in the muffler. Will try to get photos tomorrow:laugh1:
  23. Would that be brown or black bears:lol: I'll give them a ring in the morning and give it a try. At this rate I'll be sending the saw to Spud to get it ported:biggrin:
