  1. Would agree split the shed into bays to have 1 for use 1 for seasoning and 1 getting filled for seasoning. This ony works if your wood usage is 1/3 or less of shed volume otherwise build a bigger shed
  2. I think it needs to be a gravity circuit so your radiator will need to be up strairs in case of power cuts. (no central heating pump) You should be able to hook it up to a Dunsley Neutralizer to work in conjunction with another heating source.
  3. 13 years into a 5 year plan doing up my mums old house! Deffo make a plan and stick to it and not change half way through as I and the wife have done many times. House almost finished and also landscapeing almost there. Best of luck with the renovation only advice is put in the best insolation you can afford as it'll pay in the long run
  4. Don't want to hijack te thread but milling with a 3120xp and the flywheel bearing cage failed causing damage to the piston! Should I run the saw at 40:1 as the flywheel bearing will always see less oil! Or just rebuild and crack on!!
  5. I was always taught to bang the handle on the bench and the weight of the file will drive itself in. Do the same with hammers etc. Hope its not too sore but you are guaranteed to knock it on everything for the next few days!!
  6. If the Jack's are bolt on you should fit in spacers that should let it clear! What size box did you use for the main frame?? Trailer looks awesome
  7. Husky 3120xp for the chain as mill Husky 390xp for the saw horse Husky 560xp for firewood 2 x husky 266 for firewood not used as much as 560 is go to saw Husky 136 never used
  8. A taper lock should never come off on less it was not tightened or excessive vibration
  9. Porous block issues with the 6600 and 7600 back in the day the new blocks had a cross hatch on the out side compared to the smooth faulty ones! Changed loads when serving my time.
  10. Have you tried Ramko for hydraulic cylinders as they are reasonable
  11. As above, drain out all water out of the fuel tank as well you should have a drain at the bottom but if forestry guarded it may be difficult or impossible to get to! Also change water separator and main fuel filter as said above
  12. Was Chief mech with Transocean till 2017 now with service company repairing Caterpillar engines
  13. Used to work in Nigeria and West Africa then the UAE now back in the North sea
  14. You mean Cushnie Farm Huntly! I live in Cushnie near Alford
  15. Banned most places offshore now as you said no ankle support.
  16. Had a few grinder sparks over the years and if you leave them too long the A&E will have to drill them out which is a bit weird as you hear the little drill hitting the metal. Last time I was in they told me to go to an optician as they are paid by the NHS to handle emergencies
  17. Which splitter knives 6/8 way? How much cube has it done approx?
  18. Had no issues filling 5 X 20 Lt Jerry cans at local garage! Only problem is pump cuts out at £100 so only fill 4 and pay and then fill the last one
  19. When serving my time back in the day I did l loads of IH 885s and 674 with porous liners as homers! It was mostly down to poor coolant quality
  20. Its quite easy to cook the water tank but getting used to it now! I only burn soft wood as its cheaper and have loads of room to store it so when the tank is above 45*C I only part load the boiler if lit in the morning as the heating will be off. If lit at night I put a full charge in as the heating will be on and use the excess heat. If below 45 full charge and the tank will not cook. I have plans to fit the pellet option on the boiler with a large pellet store for holidays and the like, and the only thing to change is the grate. Also forgot to say that after the green deal assessment of the house I only required a 35kw boiler but with a bit of research and looking at the posts on here decided to fit a bigger boiler 45kw (although the same phisical size as the 35kw one) and the biggest thermal store I could fit, just wish I built the shed bigger and fitted a 4000lt tank. During winter boiler lit once a day or 3 times every 2 days, summer once every 2-3 days depending on ambient temperature for heating in the evening.
  21. Same not a 500 series MF. Case 885 895 also good machines although can have porous liners if the coolant is not looked after.
  22. Absolutely delighted with my 45kw solar focus boiler and 3000lt buffer tank. These was installed 3 years ago after completing the house extension and had the choice of a heat meter or get a Green deal assessment done to calculate the heat and hot water requirements for a 4 bedroomed house. I opted for the latter and get paid every the RHI every quarter and will almost cover the installation costs. I got the boiler from AD Heating in Fyvie and they have been great with service and help when required. I also used to heat my house with wood with a Stanley range in the kitchen and a 14kw Hunter Herald in the downstairs living room. I have since had to take out the Stanley range as it was never needed, but with the kitchen having no other source of heat I removed the range and installed radiators. I also got the installer to fit a Heat exchanger in the extension which separates the new pressurized system and allows me to keep the vented system off of the stove an added bit of heat if required! Having said that the stove only gets lighted after coming home on a cold snowy day and usually after 30 minutes everybody has to go to the kitchen of sitting room upstairs as the room gets too hot! I a little bit more wood now with the Biomass than before with the 2 fires BUT the wifes happy as not as much mess in the house and the house is twice the size! All in all best thing I did was install the boiler. Callum
  23. Have a 45 kw log boiler and a 3000 ltr Buffer and its been great so far. If there was no RHI i would have been hard to justify the 25K the system cost! Wood not a problem up here yet but its coming as the forestry are now removing the hag from clear fells for biomass! I also fitted a H/E so my original vented system for the stove in the house still works. The only advice I could give you is put in the biggest buffer tank you can fit.
  24. Probably been asked before! i'm thinking of getting a bigger saw for my chainsaw mill and have 5 husqvarna saws already with 3 (2 x 266 1 x 390) of them with the same bar mount as the 3120, so i guess i'm asking is the Sthil so much better that its worth the extra money for the new bars etc or stick with Husquarna?? Callum
