  1. Absolutely delighted with my 45kw solar focus boiler and 3000lt buffer tank. These was installed 3 years ago after completing the house extension and had the choice of a heat meter or get a Green deal assessment done to calculate the heat and hot water requirements for a 4 bedroomed house. I opted for the latter and get paid every the RHI every quarter and will almost cover the installation costs. I got the boiler from AD Heating in Fyvie and they have been great with service and help when required. I also used to heat my house with wood with a Stanley range in the kitchen and a 14kw Hunter Herald in the downstairs living room. I have since had to take out the Stanley range as it was never needed, but with the kitchen having no other source of heat I removed the range and installed radiators. I also got the installer to fit a Heat exchanger in the extension which separates the new pressurized system and allows me to keep the vented system off of the stove an added bit of heat if required! Having said that the stove only gets lighted after coming home on a cold snowy day and usually after 30 minutes everybody has to go to the kitchen of sitting room upstairs as the room gets too hot! I a little bit more wood now with the Biomass than before with the 2 fires BUT the wifes happy as not as much mess in the house and the house is twice the size! All in all best thing I did was install the boiler. Callum
  2. Have a 45 kw log boiler and a 3000 ltr Buffer and its been great so far. If there was no RHI i would have been hard to justify the 25K the system cost! Wood not a problem up here yet but its coming as the forestry are now removing the hag from clear fells for biomass! I also fitted a H/E so my original vented system for the stove in the house still works. The only advice I could give you is put in the biggest buffer tank you can fit.
  3. Probably been asked before! i'm thinking of getting a bigger saw for my chainsaw mill and have 5 husqvarna saws already with 3 (2 x 266 1 x 390) of them with the same bar mount as the 3120, so i guess i'm asking is the Sthil so much better that its worth the extra money for the new bars etc or stick with Husquarna?? Callum

  23. We should be paying the cost of production at the minimum for all farm produced products, then we would all be complaining about the increased cost of the weekly shop. How can dairy farmers make a living with the farm gate price lower than the cost of production. I totally agree that the current system has created "arm chair farmers" playing the system, but I also know a lot of Farmers that live on an overdraft all year until the subs hit the bank, and then the cycle starts again. In a perfect world we the consumer would pay a fair price for the produce farmed in a responsible manner. Then the subsidies could stop and our Farmers could make more or less depending on how efficient there farm was! The sheep farm in the highlands would struggle compared the a arable farm in the Howe of the Mearns (good fertile arable land) but the land price would reflect that! Stop the subs and make the good farmers better and the arm chair farmers go out of business. Its a complicated issue and impossible to please all, and if they stop there would be a few tough years and there would be lots of Farms going to the wall but a lot would survive and thrive!
  24. I thought with the long fibres in spruce it would be strong!
  25. Looking for some advice on structural timbers. I'm currently in the process of milling some Sitka Spruce for a shed roof. Could I use Scots Pine as well or is it too brittle or not strong enough?? I would love to use Larch but have none in the wood to use. Opinions please!
