  1. drain out the oil and clean with thinners and rough up a bit with course emery cloth and repair it with Belzona which is an epoxy paste which I have repaired cracked engine blocks with so it should work!! it has to be spotless though:thumbup1:
  2. its got to be 2 handed operation to keep there fingers out. Best to buy one there are lots out there to choose from, it all depends what you want to spend.
  3. use a variable displacement load sensing hydraulic pump! and closed center valve with a flow control to control flow to valve. It could get very expensive!!
  4. report it to the police and let them know!! Its the right thing to do! Be the better man and rise above your squabble/disagreement with your neighbors:thumbup1:
  5. All I burn for firewood is spruce and pine (Both in stoves with doors so no spark problems). and very occasionally Beech if there is a windblown tree I get to tidy up for the firewood. Soft wood is less than 1/2 the price to get a lorry load delivered from the Forestry Commission but is more than 1/2 the BTU when burnt = Good deal (if your not counting time for clogging, splitting and room for storage. So If every body keeps burning hard wood it will keep softwood price down!!
  6. Totally agree. If you have to buy the timber in, even with the RHI it would be questionable if it would be cost effective!! Also if you counted your time and running costs of equipment, saws, tractor, splitter of cutting up logs delivered from FC it would be questionable. But being a sad git myself I quite enjoy firewood at this time in my life but that may change and is one of the reasons I've opted for a dual pellet/log gasification boiler. and why its going into its own shed with room for stored dry wood and maybe in the future a pellet store! And same as Difflock my house is already heated with wood. The other problem/drawback with the ECO ANGUS is it has to be fired manually rather than automatic which means you'd have to manage your heat store manually, rather than just checking the boiler and refilling the fire box when required, and the boiler deciding when to fire up to top up the heat store. Good luck with it you could spend a lot and get a very sophisticated system that is all automatic and emails you when it needs to be filled or spent a little less and manage it manually whatever the choice is it can only be a good thing to burn a renewable product to heat your house. The RHI certainly makes it more attractive:thumbup:
  7. Forgot to say the dealers close by. Also forgot to say you will need a green deal assessment done on your property and if you have insulated your farm house without planning permission so there is no record of the amount of insulation in the house it may be worth while not telling the whole truth about the amount of insulation as your Domestic RHI payments will be based on this assessment! Obviously I would not condone or advise you to do such a thing, and take advantage of a scheme that our PERFECT Government has put in place. You can also only get payments for a boiler of 45kw max size on the domestic scheme. Good luck Callum
  8. One other consideration is where your nearest dealer/service center is. If you go for a sophisticated boiler and something goes wrong and the nearest service center is miles away it could be a pain. You should also look at the Therminator II by Solar Focus. We opted for this one as it can run on firewood or pellets. Starts automatically when needed and can be controlled with a smart phone so when on holiday we could text/e mail it to start up and the house would be warm when we come home:thumbup: Hope to get it fitted by the end of the year when the extension is finished. Also putting up a purpose built shed so once the wood has been in the stick shed for a year to dry I'll build it into the boiler shed for the wife to load the boiler when I,m at work (28/28 rotation). I've also asked the supplier A&D heating Fivie Aberdeenshire to be put in touch with some customers that already have the boiler so we and get a real objective point of view about the day to day running of the boiler! obviously they will only send me to a happy customer but still they are willing for me to visit and speak to using customers. The RHI payments are help as installation and boiler costs are all that I will cover over the 7 year RHI domestic scheme. Good luck with it County. Callum
  9. You'd be better with a caravan mover on the actual wheels of the chipper as that is where the most weight is and you can control them with a little remote control.

  11. Where would I get a tester and how much would it be as i have 8, 2 stroke engines so the cost may be justified! Callum
  12. How would I test a Husky 266 for air leaks in crankcase? I,ve cleaned the carb and set up the carb as per manual and set H screw so it four strokes at top end, it runs and cuts great until it gets hot then the idle speed increases and it revs high like its running lean!! Your thoughts gents.
  13. No Tree stands forever:biggrin:
  14. Was helping my dad with a power saw at 15 years old with a husky 61, and still have no certificates for a saw. Still got arms and legs intact and most of my fingers left (log splitter) common sense works wonders, if only it was common:thumbup:
  15. I've got a 59 plate hilux double cab and cart about my kids all the time. The hilux is the dogs boll*cks IMHO:thumbup:
  16. a very big thank you
  17. "Breem" or its proper name broom also works just pick up the dead stems lump it on the BBQ and once it has burnt down it leaves a nice bed of coals to cook on:thumbup1:
  18. Like that:thumbup::thumbup:
  19. Just get an old air reservoir tank off of a lorry and make sure its not too rusty and charge it to 100 psi and should have enough ooompf to blow out a couple of saws. And you could charge it with a fag lighter powered compressor (12v)
  20. Get well soon! just makes me cringe fingers and hedge trimmers not a good combination.
  21. Here's my toy, Just down the road in Donside
  22. Looks like the leader was broken when it was a young tree and the branch damage is possibly with the weight of snow, coming from the same neck of the woods I know snow can cause a fair bit of damage. The Forestry Commission plantation in Cushnie has a few acres of lodge pole that no one will cut as it grows for 5-6 feet along the ground before growing up caused by heavy snowfall when trees were young. If you don't like it trim it at the root. It will never be a pretty tree!!
  23. Can't understand why people don't want to burn soft wood as a lot of new wood burners are stoves with a door and it does not matter about sparks. Granted you will need more room to store the increased amount of logs required for the stove! But the reduced cost of soft wood would out weigh the extra work of throwing a couple of more logs on the stove a night. All I use for heating in my house is soft wood as it is much cheaper and available locally. I have a Stanley range in the kitchen and a Hunter herald 14 in the living room, and soon to be installing a Therminator II biomass boiler, which will also burn soft wood. Unfortunately I live in the NE of Scotland because I would gladly take it off your hands:thumbup:
  24. If you use a 100 mm cylinder and a engine and 2 stage pump from flowfit you should also get the auto return spool valve which would make life a bit easier!! Try Ramko for the hydraulic cylinder they are a bit cheaper than flow fit. I've bought a few cylinders from them and had no issues. Are you going vertical or horizontal with your splitter?? I find the horizontal splitter best as it pushes the split wood away from you or splits direct into trailer but lifting heavy rings onto it can be a pain and if you have big rings you have to handle it a few times until it's all split. Good luck with your build and post a few pics when done!
  25. I'll be splitting some beech in the next week or so so i'll see if I can get a video of the old one working, Also I repainted it a couple of years ago as the various repairs/modifications over the years were looking scabby!! The big one is under modification at the moment to stop the logs jamming in the blade. but your right it weighs a good 2 tons so if I cant get it to work at least it'll be worth something:thumbup: I have a video of the big one but not sure where to post!
