Hi a bit off thread (sorry) but I have noticed the chain stretch that Rob mentioned I have a 4ft hard nosed sthil bar and when milling I am always adjusting the chain and when I got the saw new i was told it only came with a hard nose bar why would they even make a bar that long without a sprocket nose ,must get one from rob soon Cheers Mark

Hi luke I am quite new to milling myself and yes the grinder is a must as agg says esential to keep cutters sharp and same length you will also need a good ladder and some wedges you may also want to take a look at the threds on hear about putting a winch on an alaskan everybody highly recomends them I have one but have not had time to use it yet but have a look and happy milling Cheers Mark

Hi we have a yard near us that only does fence posts and rails and he has a big de-barking machine and they come out nice and smooth you may find one in a yard near you ,good luck as hand de-barking can be a ball-ache Cheers Mark

My girlfriend is an artist and she commented that it would be good if you made the pupil of the eye darker, with just a small pinprick of light in the pupil - small details can make a dramatic difference, especially with eyes. But she really liked the work!

Why do you all say beech just fire wood when butterfly spalted beech tables or just spalted beech coffee tables are just stunning I am always after spalted beech send some my way Cheers Mark

just had another look on ebay so there is another cheep one with an flexible extension for £26 ish or the makita one for £90 and a seckond hand one not sure what make for £40 its a no brainer the makita one if you have the money if not the cheep one who knows the cheep one may go on for yrs do let us know what you go for and what it is like I am at the moment looking for an orbital sander and cant decide what to go for I dont want to spend too much as they dont seem to last more than 18 months 2yrs Cheers Mark

Hi just looked at that ebay grinder its about the same size as my dremel ok for tiny work but i doubt very much that it would replace a die grinder it always pays to buy good quality tools every time Cheers mark

Hi All I was at a local fair yesterday so van is full of carvings etc my jack and breaker bar are in the step for side door that does not work under loads of stuff my next door neighbour gives me a knock flat back tyer lends me a jack no wheel brace so how to crack wheel nuts I think I know I will put a spanner on it and belt it with lump hammer (not a good plan) I hit said spanner it bounces off wheel nut stright up catching me on forhead talk about seeing stars woulnt do that again just thaught I would share my stupidity with you all so you can laugh at my expence Cheers Mark

Hi Big J such a shame that you are so far away from me in dorset if you ever come down this way please do let me know you have some very nice elm ,elm is one of my favourite timbers but you did mention that you sent some boards by courier could you do that again say with 2/3 boards 5/6ft long 2" thick sorry to be a pain but I have an idea for some stunning tables and some nice bur elm would be ace many thanks . Hi guys HA my girlfriend makes stained glass give me a few weeks and I will post pics of my glass river table we also have a welder in our workshop so a metal frame will not be a prob watch this space as they say but very nice table looks stunning

Hi Ian am I right in thinking that was done with a router if so did you use it free hand if you did cool using routers free hand is hard work ,nice piece of work have you thaught about maybee putting some colour in it ? nice work Cheers Mark
