Hi guys ,I have rented a workshop with courtyard I do Chainsaw carving / milling and was thinking about running an Introduction to Chainsaws Course for home owners who wan to cut logs just saftey(kickback zone sharpening etc ) not accredit just van informal day to make sure people are safe cutting firewood at home what do you all think and how do you think i would stand legally look forward to your comments Cheers Mark (chainsaw carving/milling in Dorset)

Hi Guys i took the side cover off my ms180 to give it a clean and noticed that part of the inner casing above the sprocket was very loose and would not stay in place very well do you think the body of my saw is kaput or can it be saved cheers Mark (chainsaw carving /mobile sawmilling alaskan mill)

  7. Hi I agree i only use a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder with a backing pad with sanding discs on it i have only slightly grazed my nuckels with it a few times over the years see screwfix for backing pad and sanding discs good luck Mark

HI guys i have been thinking about some sort of milling bench to maybee do away with neeling down all the time i had a beem fall on me working on a barn conversion so my leg is not a1 so any way a simple ,movable raisable bench so you could roll the but on to it and the raise it i can think of most of it but not how to raise it anybody seen anything like this out there or fancy getting together to try and make one we have a welder in our new workshop co-op so fabracation not a problem be good to hear all your thaughts and lets hope it stops bloody raining Cheers Mark
  11. HI i use a 9and a half inch grinder with a backing pad with a rough sanding disc it takes big ridges out ok and width is no problem my planer only takes 12inch width and is a bloody pain as i want wide smooth boards ,anybody in dorset run a wide planer please get in toutch cheers Mark

The HSE are bonkers i walked into a dealers and paid cash for a 880 with a 4ft bar and they did not ask any questions and i am sure i could do alot more damage with that if i did not know what i was doing i would love a new top handle for carving with as they are so light ,hey i think the HSE are bonkers
  13. Hi i am based in shaftesbury dorset and i do exacyly what you are talking about in our workshop we also have a welder/metal craft and stained glass come down we are only about a hours drive from bristol P M me and we can sort out the details cheers Mark

Hi guys i have been making some chopping boards to sell along side my planks and chainsaw carvings and at a fair last summer one of the other traders who only did chopping boards advised me to use work top oil i but i have not had time to look for any maybee a kitchen shop could help and i would be interested in a wooden mug for my coffee so can i get one from you cheers Mark

Hi i am new to milling myself what i can say is if you want to have a go a chainsaw mill the least expensive route to take but it all depends what you want to do and haw much money you have to spend £1500 should see you set up with an alaskan (Rob Dyer on hear is your man for that ) and a chainsaw you could ask around to see if anybody would let you have a day with them milling to see hoe you got on with it i am in dorset if you want to come down just P M me if we all help each other we will all get on better Cheers Mark

Hi i got myself an 880 with a 4ft bar and ripping chain i find the extra power a bounus and then if you do get well hooked and start doing some big stuff you will not be looking to up grade all depends on what you intend and your budget you may also want to look at the vid on the alaskan page (winch on an alaskan) i am also very new to milling and everybody rates a winch looks easy but have not had time to try it myself good luck and happy milling Mark

  20. Hi guys not even sure if i have spelling right but i have seen these chainsaw disc things that fit on a small grinder like 2 discs with a chain in the middle , what are they called and who sells them i have looked and looked but no luck can anybody help cheers Mark
