  2. Hi jaclal I am only in dorset and have a 4ft alaskan so if you want to have a deal give me a ring my numbers are on another post worth milling from last week as yaffle says you can get some cool figuring so get in toutch if you want to have a go at milling it Cheers Mark

Hi guys I asked a few weeks ago about what product to finish a dining table with I went with dainish oil as I had a big can of it in the workshop but it took like 3weeksto dry i know its a bit cold and damp in my workshop but never had this happen before do you think its gone funny with the cold look forward to hearing what you all think Cheers Mark

Hi talking about chains you should be getting a much better finish on your boards than that its quite rough you should be using a ripping chain as for a saw that breaks down often that would get to me I would save up and get a good saw it will make milling a joy ,I have had fungus like that just treat it with an anti mould stuff hope this helps Cheers Mark

  11. THanks guys I was only going to warm up the workshop a bit with space heater not try and dry the oil as its my first dinning table got to be sure about the finish will post some before oil and after oil pics Cheers Mark

  16. I will always haggle I love it if you do it with a smile and some humour most people will at least laugh if not drop their price ,when I am at shows with my chainsaw carvings about half my customers will haggle I dont mind as I do it ,its fun Cheers Mark

Hi Dervish is right nothing better than just doing it and dont worry if it turns out crap and ends up on the firewood pile I still chuck stuff on the wood pile I bet we all do from time to time if you can get together with another carver you should its good fun and bounce ideas off each other ,and when you get an idea say I want to carve a bear look at pics of them and doing some drawings should help and above all Have Fun with it Cheers Mark
  18. Hi yes just go to a dealer but shop around as prices vary I would want to pay no more than £150/170 for a small saw if you do ever find yourself down our way do pop in Cheers Mark

    log cabins

    Hi a friend of mine has imported one from Russia, he knows the people who make them over there. I think he wants to sell the one he has but it's not a complete cabin, just the walls. I think it's 15 x 10m and he wants about £4,500 for it. I can get further details if you're interested, PM me if you are. It's in Dorset by the way.

Hi I have been carving for a few yrs now and have a ms180 and have been using a sthil carving bar but just got a sugi hara bar from Rob D on hear and its so light its a joy to use (thanks Rob) so I would get a small ms 170/180 and a sugi hara bar but other people may differ either way you will need a small saw and carving bar Rob D on hear can sort you with any bars and chains you need ,nice work for your first one keep it up what part of the country are you in if near dorset you would be welcome to come to do some work in our yard we always welcome anyone to come and do some work together we also have stained glass and welding/metal craft if anyone is interested just P M me keep up the good work and welcome Cheers Mark

Hi guys some of you were talking about using flap discs on grinders and yes they are no good on green wood bit if you get a flexi backing pad and use say 36 grit discs not flap theay are ace on green wood I have been using them for yrs on my chainsaw carvings and have 4 and 1/2 inch and 7 inch the 7 inch on a 9 inch angle grinder removes alot of wood very quick ideal for table tops benches etc just that I would share that hope it helps Cheers Mark

Hi Agri yes powder coat looks good I had a look at other stuff there some drain pipes so should be ok got to carve the 2 pedestals then put it all together ,nice to mill the planks and see it through to delivery ,the customers came to see progress and were very pleased and thats ace when people love what you have made I will stop waffling now Cheers Mark
  25. Hi guys I am making a large walnut dinning table It is going to get bashed about a bit what would you polish it with ,wax is out as it would not last long looking good I hate varnish so what product would you all advise ,Many Thanks Cheers mark
