I always put wedges in as I go say 2ft in one in the end 3/4 in one either side and one either side say a ft from the end ,maybe use a winch I am told they help with a nice smooth cut just got one myself but not had chance to try it out yet but I have some big ceder of leb to mill soon will post some pics , a good sharp chain is a must , hope you sort it out Regards Mark

  3. Hi you should look at attatching a winch to your mill everbody rates them I am waiting for mine to arrive in the post speek to Rob D on hear he will sort you out with one there are some cool vids on hear to do with winching worth watching Happy Milling Cheers Mark
  4. Hi if you only have access to an alaskan I would go for iinch and a half or even one at two and a half if you want a table top even if you only get a few planks , its better than none as walnut doesnt come up all that oftenn get it while you can Cheers Mark

  8. Hi guys I find this topic of what time of year to mill a bit confusing I understand all about sap rising etc but all the bigis sawmills near me mill all year round would this be a reason why when you buy wood from a builders yard its quite often bent to f--k what are your thaughts Cheers Mark

  10. Hi I use an 880 and its ace plenty of power mine can be a bit temperamental at times but once its started its fine all day good saw mine cost 1250 with a free helmut there is one on ebay at the mo I think Regards Mark

  13. Have a look at Norwood Mills you can start with a basic set up thenn add to it like a trailer, hydrolic log lifter , power head look good to me nice people as well hope this helps Cheers Mark
  14. Hi guys I would be up for a Co Op in my workshop with a big thicknesses ,I have an alaskan and am looking for a bandmill at the mo and would be well into a co op we already have stained glass and metal work ,we are in shaftesbury dorset come down and have a look everybody welcome cheers Mark

Does the mill work has it been deemed safe to use could you not tidy up some of the welds remove the sticker and sell on , you could also go see the bloke who sold it to you and advise him that giving you your money back would be very good for his health and well being , I hate con men , could you not just use the saw just a few options I could think of I hope you get it all worked out do keep us posted on what happens Regards Mark

Hi Tickle the only thing is when the saw is clamped to the mill you cant hold the end of the bar as yu would normaly but thanks , I have now got sprocket nosed bar that I am going to try on some ccedre of leb today as long as the rain holds off will report what happens later today hopefully all will be good Rob D assures me that the bar is the problem (thanks Rob ) so hopeing it dont rain Cheers Mark

  18. Hi Cag do you have a hard nosed bar or sprocket nosed as I have had some probs with my hard nosed bar withchain tension you may want to poursome oil on the end of yourbar as you go and dont forget wedges , good luck iits ace fun and addictive have fun and post some pics Cheers Mark

Hi guys I have a 15yr old 024 for blocking out and its ace never let me down I dont think I have even changed the spark plug though on some big work Ihave done I could have done with a longer bar thats my next thing to get is a saw with a 2ft bar but the same not sure what to get but I do like sthil saws more than huskys Cheers Mark

I dont use a torque wernch but have one I will give it a try and I have hard nose bar when I first had the mill it ran ok no probs so its doing my head in ive done nothing diffrent , i have striped my mill a d saw right down and given it all a good clean will have another go on friday and report the results I would appreciate someone else who has had an alaskan and an 880 to have a look with me if anybody out there is up for it Thanks Mark

  23. Just wanted to show you one of my recent chainsaw carvings - the limb had cracked off a 600 year old yew and the customer wanted a chair carved out of it. He's decided to put it in his conservatory now to preserve the wicked colours of the wood. Cheers for looking!
