Hi I am no expert but if the wood is green/fresh cut and you bring it inside it will move and crack but not sure how much ,a lacquer may peel with the moisture from inside the wood ,I have had some success with putting small bits of wood in the microwave to dry it I did this with some coasters so depending on size you could try that Cheers Mark

  4. Hi fen I am in shaftesbury dorset ,there are no end of things youcould make from coffee tables book case bed blanket box ,you are welcome to come down to my workshop with some planks once you have milled them and spend a day making whatever no worries Cheers mark
  5. Thanks Big J will do as you say comes with practice as I am still quite new to chainsaw milling but totaly hooked I want a bandmill now ,just love turning over the first cut to see what its like Cheers Mark

Hi big J how often should I do the depth gauges I was taught once for every 3 times on the cutters should that differ for a ripping chain ,I milled some spalted beech a few days before and mill was doing fine I know its alot softer ,but honestly that oak was the hardest timber I have ever come across harder than greenheart ,thanks for your advise Cheers Mark

Shame you dont live in dorset as I could have helped ,its hard to find a good workspace it took us a year but 4 of us clubed in together all doing diffrent things from chainsaw carving/ milling ,stained glass and welding ,you are welcome to come down and work with me in the yard anytime no worries hope you find a place soon Cheers Mark
  15. No wedges surley that will make the saw work harder and he didnt seem to rev the saw to clear it after the cut either i was told to do both by Rob D so might help if you told your mate only trying to help Cheers Mark

Hi Rob I did a load of sweet c nut about 7/8mnts ago and I did that through and through and according to the customer who I bump into every so often it has stayed nice and flat and he didnt even stack it right I did try to tell him but you know how some people can be ,how did it mill I have done 2 lots the first lot was a demo with the mill for a mate who then got one from you ,that one cut like a knife through butter but the next sweet c nut I did wasnt so easy maybee I got my angles slightly out Cheers Mark
  17. Hi Kev the beech looks good on the ends but just havent had time to mill ant yet I will post some pics when I do Hi Sandpiper it will have a brace when I put it all together I just wanted to post some pics will post some more when finished Cheers Mark

Thanks guys for your cool comments its taken too long to be honest about 3wks ,I milled the planks with my alaskan so ive done the whole lot myself ,its for a customer they had the tree come down in the garden and wanted dinning table ,this is the one ive had problems with danish oil on but it was on the underside of the top ,it should take me another few days to finish it and then I will post some more pics Cheers Mark

  23. Hi jaclal I am only in dorset and have a 4ft alaskan so if you want to have a deal give me a ring my numbers are on another post worth milling from last week as yaffle says you can get some cool figuring so get in toutch if you want to have a go at milling it Cheers Mark

Hi guys I asked a few weeks ago about what product to finish a dining table with I went with dainish oil as I had a big can of it in the workshop but it took like 3weeksto dry i know its a bit cold and damp in my workshop but never had this happen before do you think its gone funny with the cold look forward to hearing what you all think Cheers Mark
