Hi Dervish is right nothing better than just doing it and dont worry if it turns out crap and ends up on the firewood pile I still chuck stuff on the wood pile I bet we all do from time to time if you can get together with another carver you should its good fun and bounce ideas off each other ,and when you get an idea say I want to carve a bear look at pics of them and doing some drawings should help and above all Have Fun with it Cheers Mark
  2. Hi yes just go to a dealer but shop around as prices vary I would want to pay no more than £150/170 for a small saw if you do ever find yourself down our way do pop in Cheers Mark

    Hi a friend of mine has imported one from Russia, he knows the people who make them over there. I think he wants to sell the one he has but it's not a complete cabin, just the walls. I think it's 15 x 10m and he wants about £4,500 for it. I can get further details if you're interested, PM me if you are. It's in Dorset by the way.

Hi I have been carving for a few yrs now and have a ms180 and have been using a sthil carving bar but just got a sugi hara bar from Rob D on hear and its so light its a joy to use (thanks Rob) so I would get a small ms 170/180 and a sugi hara bar but other people may differ either way you will need a small saw and carving bar Rob D on hear can sort you with any bars and chains you need ,nice work for your first one keep it up what part of the country are you in if near dorset you would be welcome to come to do some work in our yard we always welcome anyone to come and do some work together we also have stained glass and welding/metal craft if anyone is interested just P M me keep up the good work and welcome Cheers Mark

Hi guys some of you were talking about using flap discs on grinders and yes they are no good on green wood bit if you get a flexi backing pad and use say 36 grit discs not flap theay are ace on green wood I have been using them for yrs on my chainsaw carvings and have 4 and 1/2 inch and 7 inch the 7 inch on a 9 inch angle grinder removes alot of wood very quick ideal for table tops benches etc just that I would share that hope it helps Cheers Mark

Hi Agri yes powder coat looks good I had a look at other stuff there some drain pipes so should be ok got to carve the 2 pedestals then put it all together ,nice to mill the planks and see it through to delivery ,the customers came to see progress and were very pleased and thats ace when people love what you have made I will stop waffling now Cheers Mark

Hi Agri thanks I have 3 50mm thick 2+mtrs long walnut boards they were milled about 9 months ago stickered and left I then moved them into my workshop and left them for about 2 weeks I have now biscuit jointed them together the table is to go into a house so central heating do you think cutting some slots on the underside will help many thanks Cheers Mark

Hi guys I was just thinking with the nice thick slab table tops maybee a few small saw cuts running down the underside would reduce movement whilst seasoning ,like some chainsaw carvers put in carvings to reduce cracking ,oh and does anybody know where I can order m12 200/250 long coach screws in black all I can find is shinny ones and paint will chip off Cheers Mark

  16. Hi it does not look like elm i pulled some elm from out of a river and was completely diffrrent but do haul it out and cut it ,it may have some cool colouring inside post some picks when you cut be good to see iinside Cheers mark

  22. Hi yeah a ball in a cage I carve them it takes a steady hand and practice but if you can use a saw you could do it as for the wooden chain they are f*****g hard I have only managed 2/3 links and just as the others said about the chain Cheers Mark

  25. Hi Rob what you said about the chain tension slach then tight then hanging off the bar is exactly whats hapening to me do you think I should change the bar for a sprocket nosed one Cheers Mark
