  1. rather than go over it this is what i wrote to my local mp and nick clegg as for the head of the EA all he is good for is fishing bait. Good afternoon Steve thank you for your email and what is going on. after my last email i started to look at the bigger picture. where does the water come from, yes the rain falls on the land and from there in to brooks streams and rivers. maybe this is were this should start. in the old days outside of fields were ditched to take any run off from fields. the sediment from this was put back on the land next season. hedges were maintained and hedges laid to take the water from the ditches maintain a good enviorment for wildlife etc. i have to say i have a vested interest in having hedges laid as i am a hedgelayer in the winter. grants were available under the stewardship scheme, but this was stopped. also the acreage had to be over 50 acres to be able to apply for this grant so smaller farmers are unable to get this grant. i believe the time has come that the grants given in the steward ship scheme should be instead of wildlife margins given to bring back ditches, have hedges re planted which have been grubbed out. old hedges which are flailed to death could be laid making a bigger wildlife corridor than now. the bonus to this it would bring more workers to do ditches, lay hedges and plant. coppice workers in the woods would be busy and bringing derelict woods back to health. this in turn brings in revenue to the Treasury in income tax and vat so will offset the costs of some of the work which needs doing. this would take poss 2% of the water that is flooding at present. roadside ditches. i have in the last two years been for parish councils bringing back ditches and reinstating the channels to take the rain water off the roads. this soaks slowly into the ground so this does not run say into rivers. Bournes riverlets these in the summer are in most part dry but do a essential job in the winter. a lot of these are now overgrown. falling into disrepair or disappeared. if these were maintained. then these would take a percentage of rain water more so than now. once brought back to there full health would cost minimal to up keep by parishes. upper reaches of rivers need to be dredged as now silted up weeds growing so there normal catchment has been reduced and can not take the amount of rain full we are having so it then goes down to the bigger rivers. as in my last email apart from rivers manged by riparian owners to a high standard. some are in a poor state so water builds up and flooding happens. a lot of major rivers are silted up in a bad way and need cleaning out. the mouths of rivers entering the sea. these need sorting out so at low tide more water can escape into the sea. not trying to get through smaller channels. if this was done then maybe the flooding we see now may not be as bad as it is. you say huge pumps are being used to pump water away. the cost of these could be used to do the above in normal times. also you say the EA are going to be doing major dredging work when we are back to normal times the EA knew of the problems but did nothing saying to locals that the funds were not available now after this major disaster the money has been found to do this work. once again there needs to be a proper body to look after the rivers. the EA are not fit to do the job. since the demise of the NRA. i have seen a general demise in many water courses from the beginning to the end. the EA are trying to juggle a budget. doing to many things. let the envioroment agencies look after the enviorment eg waste disposal, and the like. and have the NRA do the water side. restocking of fish, maintaining watercourses, helping owners to bring rivers back to there full health through funding. it makes sense and would work. this is not just my views but many with a interest in the rivers etc and there health. could go on but i believe i have tried to bring over what needs doing. yours truly as you can see went into detail but if it does any good i doubt
  2. be carefull they could have you done for criminal damage. i know its mad but go the route of the courts then you are above them and have the courts on your side not you being nicked and hauled before the magistrates.
  3. its a percetage of what is owed. mine was for 5k £100 for putting in coutrs hands £40 to have it read by a judge and papers sent to other party. then was £350 to have it go to court to be heard as other side contested. i won and got what was owed well i made a mistake on the forms so got 2.5k plus costs. i just asked for cost of engine instead of breaking it down. so if you go on county courts website it will give you what it costs you then apply by paying the fee. you then need to fill out the forms so not just what is owed interest on overdue acount phone calls letters and your time dealing with it but needs breaking down so it cna be seen what you are asking for. if you just ask for £200 then thats all you will get so put down what it has cost you to take to court. draw back is if they have nowt and in debt then will be a struggle getting money from them you could have them agree to pay so much a month but they would have to do a income and expences sheet if therre income is less than what is owed then may be a dead duck. only other way id employed at the last stage can get a attachment of earnings put on so it takes from there wages at a set amount. good luck
  4. +1 scags very good mowers well built. or toro. do a very good cut and no mess. if i was spending that sort of money i would go toro as have one and it cuts a dream and like a bigger one for bigger areas. husky not comercial. and ferris not impresed.

  6. its knocking on doors i do work for parish councils. but all the grass contracts signed and given out for year best time is november ready for the next year but parishes normaly award it for 3 years. and can if happy with contractor and price has not gone up extend it. as for larger firms its asking if they need any sub contractors. and getting in even if its one job foots in door and may bring more in. but not easy.

  12. +1 for the reamers morse taper the tyre looks like its off a old compact tractor like a allis chalmer or such
  13. used a grinder in past to do them but find a dremmel with a stone on is ideal as small so can do faces without taken it off machine also flat chainsaw file does a good job. a sharp cutter work so much better than a dulled encrusted one it slides easy. i also spray mine with gt85 to lubricate the blades and when finished cutting wipe blades off with a cloth and spray again so it stays clean.
  14. i am left handed and getting on annd can not sharpen them on ground. looking at getting a small vice with a clamp on to bolt to tail gate of pick up. can do both sides ok find doing if saw is facing right looking at it easier than doing the left hand side
  15. i have a husky 576xp with semi chisel on as not a fan of full chisel. and been cutting dead elm oak and it cuts a dream. and keeps its edge if you do not get near ground. have to have a good hold of saw as its cuts fast. when i have used full chisel which was on the old farm boss saws it would like to kick back. but maybe it was me not used to using saws back in the dark ages.
  16. well saw a chap with a new izuzu what a truck tows 3.5 tonnes good on fuel. said its his 4th one chops them in after 4years. not had a thing go wrong with any of them. now doing 5 years or 100k warrenty on them so now if it goes wrong it will be fixed foc. looks the truck to have
  17. if your haveing a meeting room have to get one of the members to make you a big table to go in it. look the biz
  18. that is one big rock. how they will move that need explosives to blow it up to move it in smaller bits if it would blow up looks granite so be hard as nails. after seeing first one that came down you think something would have been done to stabilise the ground above or move house.
  19. cut the hazel in a block rotation cutting a acre down at a time. if you have a lot. and cover with brash to stop rabbits and dear munching on new shoots. will be ready to coppice again in 7 years. but if you cut the stools then cut lot down and sort out what you need to use. if no use for it then contact local coppice group see if any member would like to coppice to get materals out. i coppice nad if you do it in blocks it lets light in so the rest of the fauna has a chance to flourish.
  20. buy some 90 to 120cm native hedge and plant give it 3 years and will be of a standard to lay with rest of hedge. gap gone. have a job to do same thing due to wet ground some plants have failed rest of hedge is 6ft tall so will plant with larger hedgeing plants leave then lay the lot. milltree farms winchester or murrey mcclean abingdon best places for native hedging and of a quality will not fail.
  21. forest and arb do a very good pair of steps wide at bottom with lugs to dig in i hate going off tera firma but on there steps i will go to the top with a hedge cutter and cut top of hedges. so safe worth the money.
