  1. speak to a pest control guy or someone with a good air rifle with silencer can take them out from 80 yards. as for a electric fencer. if birds go on it it will zap them dead which you do not want to do.
  2. any plants got need to check if native grown or imported as a lot of plants including hedging is coming from abroad which is a shame. what do you plant. as yet there is no cure for DED i did hear that there are diesese resistant plants. ash as other posts thats been knocked on head. beech oak but both slow growing so 50 plus years before they would be a size. there is maple but do not see much grown in woods. wait for those with more knowlage on this
  3. you can get beech hedging plants grown for the job. either green or copper. two very good suppliers is mill tree farms nr winchester and murry mc clean nr abingdon. find both do very good plants and a 100% grow. will grow big like any beech but if kept maintained will give a good dense cover instead of a hollow hedge if allowed to grow from sides and top. both do a delivery service. ned to get them in by end of march or will be to laate for this season
  4. by the way post was by Mrs HS came on site when i was out planting a hedge. now on thats it like mrs eggs will be back on aGAIN. just to let you all know is going to Southampton nuro centre Tuesday all day. so will find out more then

  6. if its a 18 inch bar look at the 550xp loads of power. if its only going to be used now and again then look at mitox saws. much cheaper and if its not comercial has 2 year warrenty on them. but friend uses one day in day out and never goes wrong rates them looking at £300 for one half price of a husky
  7. do not say were you are in uk if motor is ok apart from engine give Mike a call at bill car engineering shrewsbury. will do a new engine for it so will be as good as new engine wise and maybe cheaper than trying to find a new nissan. did mine and its better than old original engine has more grunt and better mpg.
  8. on my navara it needs to be stopped to engage 4 wheel. but should have a light coming on saying your in 4 wheel. was it low or high you tried to put in. normaly go into high and if you need then change down into low. maybe try putting in 4 wheel if it does not come on put in reverse go back a bit then go forward it then may engage if not see if you find someonewith one to have a play
  9. re sharpening them as other posts use a flat chain saw file and a wet stone to bring it up i use a peddle wet stone and that makes a cracking job of my tools. but for them to cut the shoulder needs taken off as it digs in without sholder just slips in. hampshire tenderden patterns are good and medips is a good elwell.
  10. nthe field is that private or a public footpath i ask as i was advised that when laying near public spaces to cut points off top off stakes so they can no get injured if they fall on them yes its true no joke. so just use edge of bill to take off point
  11. re fishing tackle boxs plano do very good boxs and strong have a large one for my sea fishing gear and getting on for 10 years plus and still as good as new. find a local sea fishing tackle dealer and have a look at the small box,s i have just got from dump a canvas bag with holdal in middle and two zip pockets on outside with other pockets made by bosh keep my axes silky and bigger tools in middle bills in one side gloves and pliaars in other side and files plug spanners etc in net bag on side. ideal can carry all my tools in one bag and chainsaw in otherhand with fuel can

  14. nice job all of it. but the binders very nice made a cracking job of them. midland binding looks so nice south is good but not a patch on midland binding. well done onwards and upwards. see if you can do some agg related shows this year with pictures of that and a demo hedge working on bet you will have a full order book for next season.
  15. +1 seen photos and nice old hooks do not buy new ones profile cut unlike old ones which has beenforged with wrought steel and carbon. you can get good hooks made by blacksmiths. but Medip logs bills are nice

  22. if any one was thinking of going Ilse of wight champs 22nd feb cancelled due to waterlogged farm yard hedge and field fine but getting in no go such a shame cracking comp
  23. i think that maybe what is the problem it is so dark no light getting in to wood even for a normal overstood on due to firs up road which are big so sheilding out any light from the south. need to get it thinned out so some light can get in. just needs the firs dropped but have to wait as for timber production. still its a coppice i can get materials out of.
  24. +1 got a load of birch and wanted to get fire going so used bark went very well and a good flame.
  25. just been given a overstood hazel wood which has some big stuff 6inch dia. now i am coppicing for stakes and binders has birch inbetween and there are firs just up the track. what i want to know is the hazel is dry will bend but not supple like normal also has a green tinge on outside of bark. not a nice brown or silver colour. any idears please and what can be done.
