  1. did not know we had a weatherman on this site how come do not see many postings from peakaboo need him onevery week to give the next week forecast as bbc and met office a waste of time
  2. you in pompy not far meet up for a pint if you can some good pubs just outside of pompy.
  3. this has been on facebook and well is anything safe thought with the tories in and being of the landed gentry they would want to look after the woods. looks as if i am wrong. keep there hands off the woodlands make them a wildlife reserve like marshes but managed not neglected like a lot of old woodlands. without these this country would be very poor of its rich habitate that live and grow in these woods
  4. re part of your post have the men/money to look after them. to lay a hedge yes it costs but a good laid hedge will last 15years plus before it will need atention again all it needs after 3rd year is a light tickle to top and sides and will thicken out to be a barrier againts any stock. how long do posts last 5 years. needs to be checked man time checking it cost of materials work that out againts paying a hedgelayer to lay hedges and a hedge wins in cost and low maintanance. long live the laid hedge. plus there was grants to help with having hedges laid. so cost nowt
  5. used BCS and very good machines now the newer ones with bigger engines do the business. can put most things on the pto and can have a trailer with seat to ride on. worth looking at or grillo but do not know much about them exept made in italy like the bcs and its green:biggrin:
  6. son in law has just got the 251 and have to say a very good saw compared to my echo it wins hands down for power cutting low vibes noise was impresed as not a huge sthil fan like my husky or oleo macs. have to say the echo i have and it may be mine but its not a good saw pig to get running right does not cut as fast as the sthil. my little ms170 cuts faster.now that is a good little saw but not 40cc as you ask for.
  7. should be in arb trader
  8. whar did our ancesters do before barb came about used hedges to keep stock in. now hedges are flailed a inch from being destroyed for infection to get in one hedge no use so need a fence. look after hedgerows lay them then just trim them a good defence will outlast a fence 5 times over and cheaper as no materials apart from hazel is needed good stock proof good for wildlife has all the benifits a fence has not. working on a estate now and want to be rid of all barb in the next few years wish it happened more often a good hedgelayer is cheaper than a tractor and flail or fencing. also a good thick hedge has good pests that fed on nasty pests so less chemical. it helps barn owls and other raptors good for ground nsting birds and hedge birds vermin proof and a good wind break so less wind scour long live the hedge RIP barb wire
  9. with the rain we have had even 4x4 will struggle on a grass field as it is slick. my navara was struggling to get into field on its own. with 1.5 on back no suprise it gave up and with road tyres need proper 70/30 tyres GR AT2 BF then it may do it in 4x4 may need low but its just keeping it going without to much wellie. once it starts to slip more you try and power it it will just dig in.
  10. it says not to disturb between 1st march 31st july so before and after isok to lay hedges.
  11. only groups is sussex SOE or surrey so both a bit of a treck. have nothing in Hampshire somethimes think it be good to have practice days like soe but insurance and having experianced cutters willing to give there time to show novices. plus do not have thhe time. booked to end of march and then full for next season. fingers crossed. sent a pm so let me know Dorset said he was interested in doing SOE so try and make a day

  13. my uncle served in the RN on a converted trawler doing this run in the artic seas. he did have a water colour that he drew of the trawler he was on sadley i beleive now gone. never said much of his time in the war. can now see why after watching this. he was one of the lucky ones to return. a lot never did like those in other convoys during the war.
  14. you say doing hedges is this laying if so my humble opion is a 40cc plus saw is a bit on drastic side for this job i went and got a ms170 for hedges and have a 40cc echo and a 576xp husky. the 170 is a ideal tool for hedges as its only ot a 12" bar. downside it has a pico chain and blunts quick. as for a bigger saw oleo mac efco good saws . 550 is a cracking saw in the husky range light but powerfull
  15. when i worked with late father in law in woods we had a normal flat bed farm trailer we stacked it lengthways across bed and had two posts at back to save it rolling off used to load that. all we did was take a few off pull post out of back and tip it. did loads and could load near to where we cut timber save hand balling it
  16. had a think and know of a cracking hedge nearer make a good hedge to have a comp will keep you all posted see how i get on. as need farmer to pay for materials plus some sponsership.

  19. may have the opertunity to work some wood. there is a lot of wind blown timber down which will use for firewood. but there also a lot which could be used for timber. how much if it was used for timber do you need o make it worthwile it being taken by a mill. how long does the timber need to be and what would be the best method for extracting it out. was looking at either a timber trailer or a cathedral on back of my DB996. will this work. or i can get the use of horse drawn timber hauliers. and how do you work out the cube of trees apreciate any advice
  20. have to agree marine engines run different from normal 2 strokes run it lean as it has a water jacket if it gets hot it will seize as for land 2 strokes. complex qestion in the day villiers and the like there was not the 2 stroke oil around today. if i t was my engine and a classic if it said 16 to 1 i would mix it to that spec. but the post who works on s stroke engine may shed more light on this subject. did run mx bikes 2 stroke. if it has a raditor then if using aspen normal 4 stroke with oil mix if air cooled aspen 2 will run ok in it we ran high octane pump fuel with synthetic racing 2 stroke oil mixed to handbook. as the engines will normaly last 80 hours before needing the engine looked at. chAin saws run all my kit at 50 to 1 run ok and all my old saws ran on same mix use sthil oil,
  21. just had a look for price very good looks like the old navara and 6 year warrenty can not go far wrong with one. are they good off road
  22. get a izuzu the vw is so big only 2ltr engine to flash and expenzive will get a very good izuzu for less than a vw the newish navaras are ok o6 plate and on but if i change my navara will look at the izuzu friend has one has over 100k and fault free
  23. well i use a i tonne dumper 4 wheel drive goes anywhere mine a high lift so can drop timber in trailer use it in woods ring timber up take to trailer and dump it in when finished dumper goes on trailer and off home. did think of putting a grab on back to drag timber but as easy to ring and throw in bucket. can do a lot in a day can pick up 4 wheel dumpers cheap at mo pm me tree frog if interested have a contact who buys and sells plant.
