  2. thanks dan will give these a try local in portsmouth silky getting blunt so try a diferent brand. go to hampshire garden and get one
  3. have a similer plant in this country which has 25k of seeds in one plant stem the nice ragwort which the councils like to propogate. and its a swine to get rid of
  4. if you have finance out and want to sell before the finance ends you have to notifie that you wish to sell they will give you a settlement figure which you then need to clear when item is sold. or they may say that you hand it back they sell it so they clear the finance drawback is it will go to auction so get a fraction what it could be sold for prvatly. and it may be worth more than whats left or it does not reach the figure to clear debt so you still owe the finance company if it makes more they will keep it
  5. well council if you do work for them require yellow rail want orange. i use yellow as i do work for council and to get contract had to have yellow. so it horses for courses if its just for you own safety and private work then any colour that takes your fancy.
  6. lay hedges in winter as can not do it in summer. same for fencing makes the job easier as ground soft unlike summer rather cut grass then and get a tan sitting on mower than burning up putting fences in. plant hedges in january as they grow better got a job coming up just needs to be cold to plant
  7. sometimes lucky we live 600mtrs above and our rivers are chalk so asorb the water. but the stour does when it rain flood all in its path. how that bridge in blandford is still standing the many times i have seen the river in spate shows how good engineers they were when it was built. sadley more on way tonight with gales again. just hope the sea is on the ebb when its raining hard so river can go out to sea.
  8. well thinking about it i am looking if i can get some more bits making a chair. or making them in to salt and pepper pots. will not let them go to waste just leave them in shed to dry out. got half a dozen bits for walking sticks. soon as they have dried two will be made to give to customer i am doing hedge for.
  9. yes it works i know first hand but replys are pm or phone call hence no replys on arbtalk
  10. you sound like my old boss god rest his soul we worked hard driving 50k plus ayear he let us have the use of the vans for private use and every christmas he would take s away for the weekend in a flashy hotel witha theme. plus got paid a bonus on how many calls we did in a week. earnt good money then and was prepared to work. when he sold up new lot bonus atopped nothing for christmas. gess what did we bust a gut no way started 8.30 finished 5.30pm at home. and cleaned van and did stock checks in there time not mine unlike the old days.
  11. when inn the printer game used to get plastic bits break as other posts had a sodering iron that ran off butane so had a smallish tip just ran it over crack going sideways this sealed it up and worked ok
  12. yes recycle deck hydraulic lifting arm to raise deck deisal engine so cheap to run road legal so can go to tesco shopping with it:biggrin: when i look at jobs i have i can use the bigger machine on areas it can get into and do it quicker. so saving costs never did see model number it has two big wheels by seat and two smaller ones on back which steer it. can now see about biding for more larger contracts as this will cut large areas. as saying goes if i had the tools and know how i could fix it same for jobs if you have the gear you can do the job its having the cash at the right time to buy what you need. now need to find a old chipper to chip up brash from hedgelaying
  13. the theft of gear has gone up not because it is on this site only have to be around tree surgeons and most weeks so and so was cleared out. so its has got worse. and all the time local police just hand out crime numbers like the euro lottery with less chance of winning it will carry on as for te suppliers well they are doing ok. but there not imune from being done over. forest and arb 100k of kit stolen from them never did get those who did it even with dna from blood spilt. whats the awnser to stop it being knicked. containers cut them open block or brick buildings knock holes in them. do not know be a rich man if i knew what to do to keep stuff safe.
  14. just checked prices on forest and arb website can get a new one for £400 plus the dreaded. so £400 for second hand depending on age a bit steep. with new have warrenty and dealer backup. again unless the second hand one still has wrrenty on it
  15. no contest the husky 550xp is a cracking saw had the chance to try one and never used a saw which cut so fast. faster than my 576 if it was me go for the husky and i bet its cheaper than the sthil. or tin hat on have a look at mytox 2 year warrenty and half the price coppicer i know uses them and he uses them every day and his have nott gone wrong. or efco/oleomac very good saws cut tonnes with father in law with two of them they lasted 15 years before they became worn out
  16. well found out i won a good grass cutting contract. at loose end so went for a drive to garden machinery dealer. and have secured a 72inch front deck toro second hand. so thats my christmas present. now need a trailer to put it on. as to big for my one
  17. changing tack is that a harris hawk as for echos well had one now for 5 years it hates normal pump fuel due to being tuned for usa market so it starts but have to faff around to get it to go properly now had it tuned and runs fine it has been abused and cut a lot of wood but not a thing touch wood has broken on it i did look at getting a small echo but the sthil ms170 was cheaper by £50. as for jap engines have two honda strimmers and brill engines never miss a beat. see that briggs engines now made by izuzu so will be better engines the japs do know how to make good engines. look at ther bikes
  18. use a lot oh hazel thats 2inch plus anything under is used for stakes and binders i find hazel that does not need splitting gives a nice hot fire and stays in. demised by a lot of folk but good firewood.
  19. thank you so latin for dog hence dog rose. learn so much on this site.
  20. i use two axes every day laying hedges and find they cut with grain not againts like a chain saw. but need to be razor sharp. have a peddle wetstone so keep them in trim. ias for cutting trees if you had a very good side axe and sharp should be fairly easy not as fast but keep you fit
  21. more details please a new one not heard of these do they do aa range of axes. when i can afford it will be having a fly rod made for me as all those in shops have snake eyes and i want normal rings with ceramic inserts. and sharkskin fly line. thats £400 gone. so be a wait
  22. trouble is that to the police who attend the crime scene:biggrin: they give a crime number this is loged on there database. and thats it. unless someone starts looking at the rising rate of thefts in the arb.landscape.amenity sector it will stay as a crime number. and will not tally with other crimes of a similar nature. as for stuff being found BOB and no springs to mind. unless they catch them in the act even CCTV is not a lot of cop as unless they rknow the individual then chances of the police cross referencing on there photos is very slim. to read every day of someone having been cleared out its very sad and a pain to have to get the insurance agree to replace the kit and be out of pocket by £500 as thats the norm for excess so a weeks work to earn that back. plus loss of work whilst trying to get it replaced. so a lot more money lost that insurance will not pay out. on the brigth side have a good christmas all and hope santa brings that saw you allways wanted
  23. its known as briar, dog rose or hedge rose not dog wood which is totaly different it has the rose hips on the stems which was used as itching powder in my days and has a loverly pinkish flower or as other posts its latin name which i did not know Rosa canina i asume this translated is rose cane as the stems are like canes and the smaller stuff is used for walking canes or sticks. like to know what the big stuf could be used for. do not smoke a pipe and need a lot of baccy to fill bowl one of these still last all day:biggrin: but thanks for replys and see what comes from posts. now waiting to go in shed to allow to dry out
  24. i am laying a hedge and found 3 pieces of dog rose stems aprox 3" around 5ft tall bigest i have seen in a hedge can this be used shame to burn it. smaller bits i have kept to make walking sticks but thes are to big fr that. reading up i see rose wood can be used for making chess pieces and the like but different rose wood will save and put in shed to season but any sugestions be interested to hear
  25. you are lucky that council agread to pay without you being on there aproved list of contractors and they know your hourly rate. plus having the insurance what the council require which is 10mil. i used to do these jobs now and again as a good citizen but having the council not agreaing to suport me if i did this work i now just leave it and let the council sort it out. plus when i asked if i found trees over road and cleared them would they pay me they refused saying that they would get a contractor out to do it. so stuff them now only do work if i get a email reqesting to do job.
