  3. Would have thought if you split it small the volatiles are released quicker so faster combustion. You could limit the airflow but this would result with the volatiles going up the chimney without burning but that would be a waste. As for optimum log size I like to sell 3"-4" diameter. Diameter is not really a good term for the logs but going on about pieces of cake you get odd looks
  4. You will find with a bit of practice changing the blade takes seconds. Don't think there is more debris with the six way. The logs seem to run true to the grain direction better with the six way than the four way.
  5. This page but you will need to scroll down a fair bit. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1438926289712224/?fref=ts
  6. I reguly us mine but it's quite a small diameter range that it's perfect for. You will undoubtedly still find yourself re splitting pieces if you're fussy about log size. Have you got the attachment so the splitter can be used from the splitting side? If finances are tight this might be the more useful option.
  7. Ryobi belt sanders used to be good. I have 4" model that's been going well for best part of 20 years. Sanded whole floors with it without a hitch.
  8. Sky high 40-60 % my meter is not very precise for the high values.
  9. Sounds like you have ash bark beetle. Our logs get this but I explain to customers what it is and that it won't destroy their furniture and they have all been happy so far.
  10. Think Holly needs drying quickly if you want it to keep the creamy white colour.
  11. Did you get a pallet truck with scales? Be interested if they were any good
  12. Might be of intrest Log splitter ArbTrader Arborists Classifieds
  13. 2 more samples of sweet chestnut. One from latest load and probably recently cut. The second has been here years and think it was stacked in the woods for some time before that. Both pieces were cut from the middle of a length but the old piece was a larger section.
  14. That's dry weight Bob. It's been in the house for a season and reading 11%. Will try to weigh part seasoned sweet chestnut today.
  15. No idea where abouts in the tree it came from but great fact of the day as I never knew that Every days a school day here on Arbtalk
  16. Surprised it's that high on average Steve. Just grabbed a sample of Ash and S chestnut. Workings are on the wood
  17. Just test a sample. Cut a piece say 10cmx10cmx10cm. Weigh it then multiply by 1000 When you semi seasoned sweet chestnut how long has it been down? Our experience is it's implausibly slow drying in the round. I have some 3+ years old stuff here so may test some out of interest.

    Stove

Looks like it's time to try one of those Technik workshop stoves. Went to light my old Relax stove and thought I would give it a good look over before lighting. Hmmm think it might be knackered Scary thing is I used it last week without noticing the gaping hole in the back.
  19. If your not needing 4WD the Isuzu Rodeos were also available in 2WD.
  20. Haha sorry about that
  21. Here you go http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsaw-carving-forum/92743-wood-sale.html
  22. Seems a very generous offer however many tons it is. Would bite your arm off if it was down this way.
  23. Sorry should have said sweet chestnut. Never had any horse chestnut
  24. That looks great Andrew Love your threaded bar means to fix it down. Much better than having it buried in the ground and the subsequent rotting at ground level which is happening to one of our barns.
  25. Do you charge the same price as other hardwoods? Reduced price? Also do you dry it separately as it's so slow drying? Seem to get some in every load whoever I buy from so got to move it on somehow so be interesting to hear what others do. Thanks
