  1. Don't think this is the case Diesel cars: What's all the fuss about? - BBC News Not going to condone what they have done but I believe the US testing is based on output per gallon used but when you consider how inefficient American cars are VWs may well put out less pollution per mile than the US offerings.
  2. I would say go for speed. We have a 17 tonne splitter and it has never failed to split anything yet. Sometimes takes a few goes on say 5% of the worst stuff but the extra speed on other 95% will more than compensate.
  3. This.
  4. Peeing it down which has messed up my morning deliveries:thumbdown:
  5. It catches the hay they pull out and gets a second chance before soaking into the mud. Small holes drilled in the tray to let out any water. Liz wanted to spend £120 on a new feeder but 40 mins and some zip ties and we were sorted.
  6. Great minds and all that This our one for the sheep
  7. Glad it helped you John. If it was not for your help and advice I would not have a logs business
  8. Yep everyone is stocking up now. All kicked off a couple of weeks ago for us.
  9. I thread some 1x1 batterns through the crate and screw the tops onto the ends. Yes they would blow off in no time without fixing down.
  10. Just took are our new dog for a walk and got caught out in it. Completely soaked through
  11. Not doubting the speed of a good grinder on a large chain just find on a regular chain you get a better edge from a file. When you say you grind freehand I am presuming that's Gradenberg or one of similar style?
  12. Hi Steve Our place is not dissimilar to what you describe. 4.5m to the ridge and 300m3 of space to heat. Insulation is probably above yours but not up to current regs but it is well sealed. We have 8km stove that can heat the whole place for most of the year. Yes you get a buildup of heat in the pitch but it's not excessive. When it was my workshop I used a large ceiling fan to push the heat back down to floor level and this worked really well.
  13. Surprised a man of your skills goes for a grinder over a hand filing. I have done little sharpening on the milling chain but experience with regular chains is that you get a better edge with a file. Yes it takes a bit of practice to keep things even but a vernier gauge comes in handy for this.
  14. If that last bit was aimed at me my slow experience was with a brand new Gradenberg milling chain
  15. Thanks for trying to help but you lost me. I was not joking when I said I was a numpty with this sort of thing. Had a lot of recomends for Quickbooks from various sources so will probably give it a go. Thanks all
  16. I tried a small mill on a ms460 but it's not really up to the task if you value your time. It's very slow, hard on the saw and bar not to mention the fuel consumed. As for making timbers for your house if you ment for the structural stuff the wood will need grading to comply with structural engineers drawings. This is related to species, knot size and frequency.
  17. Would have thought venting. My IBC crates of logs loose 150 kg through drying. So 5 m3 you are looking at 750 litres of water to move. That's a hell of a lot for a dehumidifier to shift.
  18. Hence me changing the oil more often than spec'd. Main dealer went through some of the improvements they have made. Best one was new dipstick You couldn't make it up
  19. Haha yes not my finest effort
  20. Would love to but not mine to sell. Alec Thing is it's only a small farm so not got hundreds of acres to take for a spin on. Most of my processing goes on in some fields just down the road hence need to make agg registered if it's to find any real use here.
  21. Thanks Jon Think it's a 200 TDI. Only alternative I can see is if we got it agg registered then it would get a few short runs around the farm but can't see that helping it much
  22. Inventor/mechanical engineer Love building contraption to solve problems but only have woodworking skills so pretty limiting. Pretty happy with my current line of work though.
  23. My old mum has a defender 90 with a meer 28k on the clock. She can't drive these days but could not bare to sell it. So it's now SORN and parked up on the farm. Sure this is not good for it so what can be done to help preserve it until it can be sold?
  24. Looks like that one was made with a router. The curved corners are the telling ellement. Alternatively they may have used a forstner bit to drill the majority out and then use a chisel to clean up
  25. 30 m3 so approximately 15 tonne @ £50 per tonne roadside = £450 Offer £200 see what he says.
