Simple answer is NO as others have said above, theft and criminal damage, We had a guy who used to take his dog for a walk every morning on a site we was working on and left every day with a boot full of wood until he was caught red handed by the powers that be, the site was some infected larch that he was taking and was caught on camera several times then was confronted by the forest manager, this went to court for theft and the distribution of deceased timber it cost the guy £550 plus costs probably the most expensive timber he has ever bought,

Maybe the UK should plant more....
spuddog0507 replied to Squaredy's topic in Forestry and Woodland management
Yes i know where your coming from here, but unfortunatly when the UK started the big push just after the end of WW11 it was only land that was deemed as unfit for farming or food growth that was planted with softwoods, One site we have worked on for many years was planted in the late 40s early 50s and back then it was some 300 acers but now has been increased to 800 acers, there is some very steep slopes on this site with some being 60-70 degrees which is not good ground to work on, One guy who used to cut with us his uncle (now deceased) was involved with the creation of this site and was telling us one day that he ploughed it all with a ex army catterpillar and just winched his self and machine back up the hill after he had done a furrow down hill, this is something i can not see being done in this day and age, but it was done, we have worked on these bankins over the years and some are hard work to stand up on yet alone go up and down on with a tracked machine ploughing all day, -
Yes totally agree with what you are saying hear, when i was asked what my projected turnover was going to be i just replied, i dont know ? then said to the guy on the other end of the phone, is my phone going to ring,?, am i going to get run over by a bus ? then i asked him if i dont do the turnover i am expecting do i get some money back ? his answer was no, so no supprise there then, then i asked him what he earnt a year and he would,nt tell me, So with the year we have had this year with covid, and what we are facing for next year some companys will go under thats for sure, and most will have a reduced income, so with those 2 points insurance companys turnover will be down, so will this be past on to the remaining customers ? and if our turnover is projected lower than years gone by will we be getting a reduction in insurance costs, i dought it very much, all we will get is increased payments, Going back to when i first went self employed your PL insurance covered you for about everything you did and i can remember going in to a small insurance brokers and getting my fist PL insurance for £23 for the year,

Anyone occasionally use 48" bar/chain on a Stihl MS660?/ l MS 660?n
spuddog0507 replied to cessna's topic in Chainsaws
Its not cs32 and 33, but you can not do a winblown ticket untill you have done cs32 felling trees over 380mm, windblown is cs34 singular and cs35 is multiple windblown, cs33 is felling large trees over 750mm but not many of then done in this day and age, i only know one old guy (who is older than me) that has done cs33, but what ever he does work wise he can do it backwards in the dark on a foggy night and it would be better done than most others in daylight, -

No need for sarcasem you asked a question i gave you a honest down to earth answer but you obviously dont know what your doing as you didnt even know the a windblow course exsisted, you could actually do the course your site on your tree, then next time you might know what your doing, good luck lad, and do your self a favour have some one else on site with first aid expieriance you may need it, readl the other posts from the guys with some expierance and take on board what they are saying it may help you, -

Hi you dont need that big bar in the situation your in, with the right cut and used in the right sequence and stood in the right place when doing the last part of the cut i would be on a 461or simular with a 25" bar, From my experience (40 years) of dealing with windblown both singular and multiple, big saws with big bars will put you more in danger of something serious happening than a smaller more manoverable saw, we have done several jobs over the years like you are describing and there wont be any 660s 661s or 880s with big bars on site, i take it you have not been on a windblown course as you would not be asking the question ?, if you did do a windblown course it would open your eyes as to what is involved and what can go wrong there is a little more to it than big bars, take care and stay safe windblown can be a killer, -
Yes totally agree with you here, i seen them hydraulic arm chairs on day time telly the other day, if we get a few of use we might get a deal on them, oh and you get a free pen as well ,,,,,,

Ye trade it as Peteb said above, you will get arsed about left right and centre and then there is another issue to consider, and that is some one comes to look at it with no interest in buying at all but with times like they are at the moment and its only going to get worse, i personally would not let any body i didnt know where it is,,, There is a lot of opertunists out there ,
-
You said it was a L200 there not custom made ? there made in the 1000s but the tipper body would be custom made, but sorry the body would not really matter, you cant expect to get more money than book price for any car, truck van etc regardless of condition, mileage etc, no matter what you have done to it they have a procedure to follow and i am sorry but there is only one winner, and it wont be the person who pays the policy, a guy i work with had his Ranger written off 07 plate, 1 owner from new, 44000 mls, FSH, 12mths MOT, 4 brand new Mitchelin tyres fitted, i would of said this pick up was in VGC if not excellent, He got paid out £3250 after 6 months of arguing with them, the pick up was worth far more to him than that, but thats life, A customer i work for now and then is a loss adjuster with in insurance he deals with anything from nicked pushbikes to written of trucks n coaches, in your case he would be book price for pickup + 5 - 10% for body if its purpose built, As i said in the other post all insurance co will have your pants down and as much cash out of you as they can possibly get, OK your not happy with the out come as the pick up was worth more to you than the insurance co but to then its just a number on paper,

would it really matter if you gave then a value every year ? i dont think so as they just go of a dealers book price guide, i have a Nissan cabstar, ok its getting on now but only got 75k on it goes well pulls like a train and is worth its weight in gold to me, but a couple of years age when renewing insurance i asked the question is a value was not stated what difference would it make to the insurance cost and i think it was £12 cheaper, so asked what i would get paid out if it was stolen or writen off and it was about £220 due to age of truck and this was weather i gave a value or not, It dont matter who you are insured with they all rip us off but we have to have the product they sell, I have heard some nightmare insurance story,s over the years mostly bad ones but one good one, infact no it was brilliant, some one i know had just bought a 59 plate corsa with about every body panel dented or scathed and a blown head gasket, the idea on this was to tart it up repair head gasket and then his son could have it, he insured the car and collected about 3 days later, while driving it home some one came straight out of a T junction and hit him side on, Plod attended as it was on a main road both drivers breathalised and one was 3 times over, the corsa was written off and he got paid out £1750 after some haggling, when he had paid £250 for it 3 days before it was written off, its not often you would hear of something like this but he had told insurance co the value was 2k,

Oh well what we doing on it then ????

Andy the Farmertec are totally different saws from the ones in the original post, the only thing a genuine Stihl and the saws in the add above have in common is orange and white, they are a cheap chinease cloned copies that nothing off a genuine Stihl would fit, look at the Ebay add and it does catch a lot of people out and that how Stihl is spelt both on the saw casing and on the bar Sthil,,, not quite right and thats why people thin they have just bought the deal of the century,
-
What good would that be ?? unless your going to Ireland on a Transit van hunt for next 12 months,
-
They are cheap chinese copies and they are not fit for purpose, watchdog or Rouge traders had some one do tests on them and there was several faults with them and deemed not fit for purpose on the UK, i know people who have bought the Ms360 modles and they think they have just got the deal of the century as they only paid £120 for a new Stihl chainsaw, then when they have used it for an hour or so and its stoped pumping oil to the chain realaty starts to hit home, and then they take it to a Stihl dealer to fix and he tells them it is not a Stihl its a shit chinese clone, they then realise they have been robbed and by this time the guy with the van they bought it of is now safely back across the Irish sea with his pockets bulging with cash, Oh dear,,,,,

Yes i know what you mean with the swab thing, i used to run a stenner resaw and that had simular set up with a foam rubber pad in a bath of diesel, used to tip about half a pint of diesel in every hour or so, Back in 1979/80/81 we did a fencing order for a local fencing contractor and that order was 8500 6ft6" 6x3 larch posts all morticed to take 5 rails, and if i remember rightly about 22,000 larch rails, by the time we had cut all this i and the mill owner was sick of the sight of posts n rails, all this fencing was installed the full length of the M55,

We use the Rotatech oil and we have found it to be fine, bars dont seem to wear out any faster, so i would say its fine, its cheaper than most other oils but that depends on what amount you use we use 25-30 ltrs a week when out cutting, The best chain oil i have found over the years is by far the Exol heavy chain oil which i used to get from a local oil fuel dealer, but then one day they had none in stock and it was going to be about a wk before it was delivered to them so thats when i ordered 100 ltrs of the Rotatech and stuck with it every since,

In my book every one gets a fair chance, if they dont make it, they dont make it, as i have said before on arbtalk, there is a lot of guys out there in the tree game who think they are the B,s N E,s but in real world they are about as much use as a windsreen wiper on a submarine, I am based about 3 mile from Myerscough collage and take a few lads on from there on a earn while U learn bassis, they come and they go and some just have the wrong attitude from the off, One lad of late came and stuck with us for for longer than any of the others have, He now has set his own buisness up and doing ok, but he has done it on his own back no loans or gifts off mummy n daddy but he will work, he rings me now and then and asks for addvise which i dont mind as he is the one who i dont mind helping, he is good to work with and gets on with it, Now others i know who was on the same collage course went and got jobs with arb firms and after a couple of months moved on to the next one and so on, what they where looking for i dont know, a cushy number i suppose but does that exsist in this industry ? a few i know are now doing diffrent things, like one is driving a parcell van, and another works in Mcdonalds which is where he should of gone at the start before going to collage,

Read all the posts on here today and there seems a lot of negative posts about women in the tree game, but as some one said there are a lot of guys in this job with massive egos, there is a few lads i have worked along side over the years and the way they act and talk to other crew members is way out of order then they cant understand why yhr job took 3 hrs longer than planed, infact its not that long since i asked a climber who was being a arse, if he needed to come down and change his tampax if it would help with his attitude, I know of 2 women in this industry, one who works as a groundie for a arb crew, and to be honest about her she would fit in with in most arb crews and put several groundies i know to shame, The other one i met about 5 years ago when we where doing a small clearfell of some infected larch, we let the site out to a NPTC training guy to do some CS32 courses and one of the courses there was this young lady about 25ish, i had to run them through our emergancy procedure before they started and what a decent person she was to talk to, as there 2 day course went on she was the one that stood out above the others, OK she was not the strongest of people only being about 8-9 stone but she was not frightened of having a go or asking for help if she could,nt manage herself,at the end of the course she was the one who just got handed a pass slip and very little said, i watched this course on and off for 2 days and she was far better than the 3 guys there, she only needed telling once and it was done, her cuts where text book, her measuring, working out what logs was to be cut out of each tree was 100%, she delt with most issues with ease and she was the one i would of employed, i have seen a lot of wanabes come and go in this game over the years, the young lady above now works for the EA on a tree team clearing waterways etc and i believe she has done several more NPTC tickets since, so all i can say is congratulations to Joanne,

3rd & 4th photos that image looks like a woodpecker !!

Yes i tend to agree with you on this one, as one guy i know bought 5 new 461s when he herd they had ceased production of them, and he wont be the only one who did that or simular sort of thing, the 441s where available and i think they still are from a few places like Honey bros, gusthearts or even FR jones,
-
461s are a good saw, plenty of grunt, i run 2 of them one with 20" and one with 25", i would not want to run a bigger bar but some lads do but that will depend on how much time you have, i find best combination is with the 20" bar, i find with the 25" bar i am all ways catching it on the floor due to being a short arse, the weight of the 461 is quite a bit heavier than the 462 or the 500i which i think is something to consider when buying a saw,

You like me ? as a ten year old child would be better at doing things like that than o would be,
