  1. Most sprockets spin off clockwise (left hand thread) unless there is a separate securing nut but this is generally found on vintage saws only. If you can't shift it - Use a big air impact driver - it will shift it PDQ.
  2. Stick your tongue on it, that will let you know if you have a spark!!!
  3. Kill switch engaged Pull the handle harder View the plug in a darker room
  4. Two main simple cash to investment options, pay in to a pension and get the tax relief or pay in to an equity ISA with taxed money and don't pay any tax when you pull the money out. ISAs can be cashed at any time, Pensions - you can drawdown 25% of your pension at 55yrs but it will impact on your final pension income. Most would take a drawdown to retire early to bridge between retirement and receiving the Government pension. It all just depends on how flexible you want your retirement to be and what works with your mind-set. The very simple rule is that the earlier you start, the earlier you can finish. Planning a pension at 40-45 years is 20 years too late.....unless you are a budding drug smuggler!
  5. Where is Mendiplogs when you need him!
  6. My repair/porting work bounced back quickly, seems Easter and the following bank holiday slowed things up with everyone taking holiday. Got back up to full speed straight after and now rammed, loads in and loads of enquiries again.......bugger!
  7. It shouldn't need loctite if the bolt is torqued down well. Some threads get a bit sloppy and if a screw keeps coming loose then Loctite is an answer but you should be OK. Just check in a couple of months time.
  8. Make sure that they are all cranked down hard but guess you probably have, glad you found the issue.
  9. Check the impulse line (rubber hose coming out of top if carb) is still connected both ends and if so, make sure the fuel line is OK - not so easy without a pressure tester but both of these have happened in the past. The impulse line sounds more like your issue and if it is loose, it may be worth fitting a new one. Worth making sure the piston looks OK - you can do this by removing the spark plug and using a very small torch to inspect the bore or just removing the muffler and looking at the piston through the exhaust port. You may be better taking it to someone decent, seeing you are South Devon, a fella named Barrie who owns a company called Gardenkit (and also on this site as Gardenkit) knows his stuff and is a good fella - he is just west of Sidmouth and worth giving him a bell if you are stuck.
  10. The "pig to start" is a worry, if a saw does this then it needs checking over. Usual start is checking the compression, checking the carb and then doing a vacuum/pressure check if the rest has been OK. Saws shouldn't suddenly change their idle speed and maximum revs and if they do, it needs sorting ASAP.
  11. I have PMed - in the OPs hands now!
  12. Battery chainsaws, what will they think of next.....fuel injection perhaps?
  13. I usually also make sure the top end is original Stihl, it will have markings cast in to the bottom of the cylinder and a stamp on the top of the cylinder if original. I still see many nice MS260s floating across my work bench in very good condition so they are out there if you look. If it is in good condition then £200 is reasonable.
  14. 260s are pretty good saws, they get a bit of piston skirt wear with heavy use and then knock a bit but generally pretty robust. Check the bottom of the saw out and check for wear to the underside plus check the plastic covers out. It gives a good indication of the sort of life it has led.
  15. Looks to me that the actuation is similar and it is only the pulling back of the handle/guard that is more difficult. Most 395s I have had in are like this. About all you can do is make sure all the parts are clean and are not worn then grease them on rebuilding.
  16. I know the rough area he posted from the consignment number but it is a major city so no help and don't want to spend hours on it! I get too much if this sort of thing happening and it can take an hour or so trawling through various emails, texts and PMs to find the sender and don't charge. Just pisses me off as there is no excuse. Got no record of this one, must have been a phone call and have no record or recollection of who owns them, must have been some time ago as they arrived when I was away at the time. Guess he will call again sometime!
  17. If family don't see life the way you do and give you toxic or negativity in all they do, box it up, cast it aside and mix with friends or other family that are like you. Going through similar and can't wait for the end of it so I can walk away and be happy again!
  18. One month and still no comms from the owner....very strange?
  19. Just fill the tank up to close to full, take the bar and clutch cover off and leave the saw on a sheet of clean paper to see if it is leaking. Worth trying leaving the saw also on both sides as well just to be sure.
  20. Revs will drop in the cut, it is inevitable as the saw will be under load that is dictated by the bar length, kerf, pitch cutter type, sharpness and the pressure exerted on the saw etc. The revs will drop to near where the power band is and tend to hold there unless you take off a bit of downward pressure. Obviously, if you fit a short bar on a big machine or modify the saw, the relationship changes a fair bit. Most saws seem to make full power at around 9500rpm as listed in the saws specs.
  21. L&S now do Husqvarna parts as well as Makita and Stihl. They don't hold big stock of Husky parts but do get them in pretty quick!
  22. Looks pretty clean to me. Reed valves usually mean lower high revs but more torque. Dolmar used them on their 6100 - a different sort of strato engine!
  23. The best act I remember, for some reason, was a group of buxom wenches doing some sort of milking pumping action with some sort of cream maker. I believe it was Poland in 2014....best act since Lordi! Just found it -
  24. The whole thing is a farce now and I don't see why the BBC are one of the main backers of what has become an ex eastern block love fest. All it shows is that everyone hates the Brits but everyone wants to be here to earn our GBP! How Australia and Israel are deemed to be Europe defies me.
  25. L&S and GHS are pretty reliable and Tesgol on ebay is a decent bloke!
