  1. It had a black surround but no idea as to what they have changed. It may be changes in the coil pack as I have noticed similar characteristics on some Huskys related to coil gap and idle speed.
  2. Just muffler modded one of the laser etched ones and OK, it was brand new but had a much better idle than some I have had in recently. Held steady at between 3050-3200rpm in any position including vertically from the clip which is a big improvement on the last one I had in which would drop by 400rpm vertically.
  3. I think you can refer to these "parts" as..... "gold dust". Try eBay or is the business model to buy them cheap on here and out them for £££ on eBay
  4. A nice idea. I see people being pissed off when they find out the actual time their machine has run before blowing up but useful for the larger companies with some form of preventative maintenance or health checks although I have yet to find one company doing it. Most just run machines until they fall apart, blow up, die of have a fault that just cant be ignored anymore!

    Seized and that hex bolt on the AV limiter isn't correct (bottom pic 2). That saw needs a rebuild to the top end and would pressure and vac test the saw. Probably got issues with the inlet manifold and possibly the clutch side seal.
  6. Most of my local guys run HS81/82s...they seem pretty good, what is wrong with the dodgy one? Seems that the fault is with the dealer and not the machine!

Would you believe that people will send chainsaws to someone they have only had a mobile number or email from and then expect to get them back, serviced and ported....unbelievable The old folk are from a different generation, they leave their doors open and believe that everyone is trustworthy. I have had customers wanting to include cash with their saw for repair in part payment, not how I work, payment is due before shipping and it is only the local & well known customers that get a bit of slack on that.

    Depends on your likely use of the saw blah blah blah. If you are a full time arb type then forget it but if you are a farmer, log burner owner or similar, top saw and solid build. It will cut wood and would suit a lighter user as saws have got lighter over the last few years.
  9. Interesting, so Echo cocked up on a few items! I would be interested to try one of the latest ones as I have had to do a few tweaks to resolve the idle issue.
  10. OK, then how is the AT getting info on the temperature of the engine. There is nothing on the cylinder or exhaust so how is this happening? The chainsaw system is pretty basic compared to automotive OBD2 systems. My take is that the saw takes the RPM reading and adjusts the mix accordingly, same as you would with a tach.
  11. By MT I assume you mean Mtronic, I would be interested to hear how the system registers the temperature of the engine. The AT system does register the temperature of the carb, to register the temperature of the engine, you would need a thermistor or thermocouple etc embedded in to the exhaust side of the engine and there isn't one that I have ever seen to date. Perhaps if the carb temp gets too high, the Mtronic system richens the system as a safety device - different to monitoring engine temp!
  12. The autotune adjusts the amount of fuel for the given state of the saw. If there is an air leak, it richens the system, if the air filter is blocked, it leans the system. You can see this in the figures on the interface. The AT doesn't adjust the air content, the carb, whatever its type, adjusts the amount of fuel to work with the air available which should be just the air flowing through the carb on a good engine. The AT will not monitor or differentiate the mix, type of fuel, heat of the engine etc. It really isn't that clever, may be one day but not yet!
  13. I am sure you are smart enough to work it out. I find they start relatively easy with no fast idle or choke when set up OK and the engine is warm.
  14. One little question, have you compared another small engine compression with the same gauge as some gauges are ONLY suitable for car engines and will read low on anything else. You should have around 140+psi and 150-170psi is where it should be on a healthy engine and a suitable gauge.
  15. Not sure why increasing the idle speed has made it unusable as it would normally just increase the idle speed unless you undid the screw thus slowing it down! The Echo is a sod of a saw to get right and have recently found that the saws idle speed will drop around 3-500rpm when hung vertically. I have been through the saw I had in and found it to be the vibration in the saw when hung vertically and did get a very Heath Robinson fix on it as found there was nothing else wrong with it. The idle issue may be an issue with one component with the carb but may also be just a small tweak - as I said, these saws are fussy....very damn fussy!

  17. Putting it on the computer won't fix it. About all it will do is reset the high and low setting and little else. If doing the solenoid hasn't fixed it, it sounds like something else is wrong and that could be damaged plug, wrong coil gap, worn pump diaphragm, worn needle valve, weak metering arm, distorted diaphragm, blocked gauze strainer, blocked fuel filter, split fuel line, blocked tank breather etc etc...... You either spend ages looking for it or pay someone else to do it. The solenoid was the most common fix and the most likely!

  19. You may have clutch slip or weak clutch springs. Something caused the bearing to melt and that would be excessive heat. Depends if it was left on idle and failed then or using flat out in a big cut!
  20. Seen loads of this weed growing like...a weed in the hedgerows around Norfolk. It looks like cow parsley in the construction of the taller stems and flowers but the leaves are very shiny and not feather like as cow parsley is. Seems to be damn invasive and is everywhere. Just wondering what it is!
  21. Not really my thing but it looks like the chain has been jumping over the rim. The fella that said he reckoned the chain had be tensioned with the chain riding on the very edge of the rim is the most likely explanation and it would have dropped back in to the centre of the rim but be well under tension then it slipped round the rim. Fit a new rim and chain then see how it goes.
  22. I have used Haynes manuals but chainsaws are relatively simple in construction compared to a car. About all I need are max revs, possibly the carb settings on the weirder ones and the odd torque setting but the rest of it is pretty intuitive to work on and the manual doesn't give me too much I need. The four stroke KMs have been an anomaly to this and seems the Stihl dealer also who attempted to fix the last one I looked at - valve timing all akimbo!!!! Very dangerous on a 4T!
