  1. Lost the last logging Clydesdale horse on Saturday morning. (He was 22 1/2 which is 90 in a human) Broken to voice commands in logging work and helped feed us and contribute towards the mortgage. Stunned and freaked out as no idea how to replace and continue in this work. RIP Odin.
  2. Does someone on the forum have experience of these machines with PTO drive? Looking at a machine that can mulch, snow blow, winch and log split. Think diesel best option? Thanks
  3. Seen a bright Orange LD 4x4 with chipping unit attached on the back. Signed Yeomans.
  4. Slight derail:- has anyone on the forum tried/run the modern Ural 750cc with 2x2 side car drive?
  5. Insurance now having discussions on a claim. Wife unsure if should look at same bike again although cheap motoring. 100+ mpg, £16 road tax, low insurance as live rural area.
  6. One can move up to the age of 40. Retired people can also move in good health and when investing in OZ
  7. The public often feel it's fine to ignore legal work signs and polite verbal instructions. Citizen's legal right of arrest for breach of the peace is final method to avoid a serious accident / death. We have done this twice in 20 years of business and on both occasions called the Police who cautioned the persons and gave us no hassle. (Cyclists and Hikers seem the worse) I do ride bikes!
  8. Is it worth fixing the log splitter to the trailer on removable pins then one unit doing two jobs?
  9. Nuthall Road, Aspley, NG8. Vehicle Registration FE 62 XDZ. Might be dumped when seen data DNA all over machine including invisible areas. It is Smoke Silver with Brown seat and White mudguards and Yellow reflective wheel rims making highly visible in dark.
  10. Yesterday afternoon the wife's Suzuki Van Van motorcycle was stolen from outside a house in Nottingham. Machine was data tagged and locked with an Abus sold secure Gold lock. Must have been lifted into a van. Owned from new with 2000 miles on the clock and used for shopping and leisure. (We don't a vehicle) Low life scum who want their eyes removed and hands chopping off.
  11. 30 miles / 50 kilometers from base on legal Agricultural/Forestry vehicles on red diesel. 1.5 KLMS is being pushed from HMRC but nonsence. (VOSA checked us and confirmed) Private tree work in gardens and haulage of diggers to domestic site will result in vehicle seized! Haulage of own wood produce allowed and NFU insure to do so. Hope that helps.
  12. Mowi from experience but expensive now. Can have remote control on the crane and a 30m winch.
  13. Good tree planting weather.
  14. Handbrake Spring brake valve. Vehicle done 47,000 KLMS from new and last month developed a crack in spring brake valve. Cost £300 to replace (Mercedes wanted £600) and now the other side done the same place! Manufacture design fault going to take up with Mercedes as vehicle cannot be used until 2014.
  15. Unspoilt wood burns with more heat and lasts. Hazel is classic example and we use down to 2 inch.
  16. Local man ran a Bedford RL with large winch and LPG. He now uses a Bedford MK with same winch and diesel engine. I can check with him as passing this weekend.
  17. Graham Edwards and Bateson worth a view.
  18. HGV's should be doing 40mph on rural roads but most don't. The problem is people often work miles from home so rush along and the people driving tractors often have no where to pull over to allow passing. The cost of food would increase should more restrictions come to Agriculture. Training and roadside checks would help. VOSA active in Derbyshire.
  19. I read almost each week of those hard working self employed and small firms who have had tools, vehicles and valuable produce stolen by those too lazy to earn a real wage. This often has a severe effect to the victims which insurance never covers. I know the APF used to have a welfare fund to help those in desperate need including those who lost a loved one at work. Is it not time for the insurance firms and courts to organise a fund for outside workers? Even £10 from each insurance premium should be a start.
  20. I learned to drive in fields on a Grey Fergie. Took a tractor test before PLG test and driven with no accidents since. (no parking/speedingbtickets) The experience gained with large machine served me well and there are numerous idiots on the road who are heading towards retirement age. I am told MOT's are due in 2014 on all trailers over 750 GVW and some tractors are a disgrace and dangerous to be on a public road. 40mph is fine with a well serviced unit and secure load. 20mph too slow and causes traffic rage.
  21. Clark's and Stanton Hope used to do them.
  22. One of the well known Forestry supplies firms can provide the Urea and bottles with a bristle bush to apply. Must be done within minutes of feeling and cover complete stump.
  23. We still run a couple of 242 XPG's and a 346 XPG with 13 inch bars. Shame too much plastic on them now and Husqvarna won't take on professional cutters needs. Look in Sweden/Norge as range is different.
