    I had to do a driving test for the nhs, the other week. I was driving a transit type box van. When i was doing a steady 60 on a single carrage nat speed limit road, i thought i was doing well until the examiner told me that the limit for transit type vans was 50 on a single carrage rd. The examiner was ex police as well.

    Sorry,i dont understand how you can pick your own work up if your already a contractor. And if your already contracting what vehicles do you use for that. Surely you just use the same vehicles. Or am i reading this all wrong.

    Hi muttley, i notice from the pictures you have a dewalt table top thicknesser, how do you rate them. Do you use it much due to its portability. Nice benches by the way.

    It may sound daft, but have you had a look at the (cheap !!) trailers that halfords and the like sell. They may be cheap light alluminiun trailers, but they are light and very capable. They would be ok for doing one delivery at a time and you would probably be ok on weight.

    I have had a look at these, at the said country stores, out of interest due to myself making logstores. I too have to admit that they are a decent buy. Well done for getting in there, hope they take off for you.

    Totally agree, how many on here complain about lack of work, need experience etc, like you say, grab a tent and off you go, campfire and beer on a night. If i was out of work, i would be straight on it.

    I'm with colletti on this, a makita 7900 should be a good comprimise. Makitas are decent machines.

    Joiner by trade, but interested in all things timber related. I like the idea of being able to cut a tree down and mill the timber and make things from it, all with my own hands. I dont think there are many trades that can actually do that. I came accross this site by accident. But from the the first time i visited this site, i knew that it was going to provide me with much needed knowledge accross many areas. The guys on here are brilliant in some form or another, the mixed areas of expertise and wisdom is a wonderful mixture. Mr bulman and his elves deserve a big thumbs up, and pat on the back for creating and controlling this wonderful forum.:congrats:

    My dad uses one bought from machine mart as well. cracking little thing it is.

    Another vote here for free stuff. It also make you feel appreciated as a customer, to recieve that little extra.

    Hi Nicky, dont worry about the questions, just keep asking. How much work would you actually be doing with the saw, ie every day, once a week etc.

    I have one of the smaller sthil ones ( 107 ) i think. Its not bad for general duties. The nilfilsk altos are decent machines as well. I personally dont like karcher, i think they have gone down hill and are now just trading on their name.

    So basically, if i drill a 25mm hole to the centre, push a firelighter down it, light it and hopefully hey presto, it works.

    So go then, please explain what you use for a wick and how do you insert it all the way into the log for it to work. And is that all there is to them.

    Nothing wrong with worcester boilers, good deal. Just make sure its fitted correctly.

    Never done beachcasting as well. Thesedays i tend to just stick to pier fishing with the kids. As muttley says, a simple telescopic rod and small tackle box works wonders. I have been thinking about getting out on a boat again. Still got 2 big scarborough reels in the shed. Might dust them off and give em a clean and oil now.

    looks a tidy car. After hearing that my van is coming to the end of its life, i,m considering something similar. But after a disasterous ownership of a sportrack a long time ago, i'll probably opt for the jimny. Whats the terios like tho' ?

    I love the look of that sj, they're doesnt even seem to be any rust showing on it. After hearing that my c15 has major rust issues now, i'm contemplating a jimny, just to use as a van.

    Out of interest, have you had a look at the cordless dremell, i have one and theyre a handy piece of kit. Or wouldnt it suit your needs.
