  1. I have just started milling with my Makita 9010 with a 28" bar. No problem at all. Will probably get a 36" bar when the times right.
  2. I've had a homeowner stihl one for the last 8 /10 years. Really rate them. Mines now getting past its best but will replace it with another one when the time comes. It's done all the usual work with ease.
  3. Brilliant piece of work. Personally I wouldn't have a clue where to start.
  4. Had many a brilliant present this year. My good wife treated me to a new wood lathe and a decent bridge camera to go alongside the binoculars she bought me for my birthday. My adopted daughter totally surprised me and bought me a g shock watch in blue that I have fancied for ages. Can't believe how lucky I have been this year. Also celebrated my 1st wedding anniversary on the 21st so this year has been truly magical for me. But the best bit is finally having a brilliant wife and adopted daughter to go through thick and thin with. All the best people.
  5. I have just recently bought a large 48" mill from tcf engineering. Really good value for money, they are heavy but well made. Would recommend looking at them before you buy Chinese.
  6. Are they based on the old vauxhall frontera, looks very similar at the front end.
  7. Personally i would use oil. Could then freshen it up every year with another coat.
  8. I've never had any problems starting any of my Makita / dolmar saws. Something strange there I think.
  9. Hi, im after some advice regarding chain oil when carving. With my very limited skill and knowledge about carving i am struggling with oil flinging off my bar and all over my work piece. For carving i use a dolmar ps32 and carving bar. As for chain oil i just use veg oil. Ive turned the oiler down but still finding that my work piece is still getting covered in oil. So what is the best anti fling oil to use. Sorry for the rambling post. Thankyou in advance for any info. H.
  10. Hi Andrew, the 420 is a cracking saw, punches well above its class. Loved mine when I had it. What was the cause of the problem with that one I part Ex'd you Andrew.
  11. I have two sets of battery tools. A set of milwaukee which i use every day (joinery) and a set of metabo. I prefer to use the milwaukee for every day use as its nice and comfortable to use. However for shear robustness i prefer the metabo, not as nice to use but they are built to last. I have two sets of milwaukee drill & impact driver which cost approx £250, one of these sets go every where with me on day to day jobs and well worth the money. Toolstation have a metabo drll in for about £120 i think and should be a useful drill. But if you are going for cheapness, then as others have said, the erbaurer range from screwfix should be ok. i have never used it but another joiner at work swears by it. H.
  12. What about the Alpina range of equipment. It seems to of been around for a few years.
  13. Hi mark Hows the lathe work coming on ?
  14. Hi All I'm currently fitting a new kitchen, and instead of tiling the walls, i'm going to board them with laminate flooring. Has anyone else done this and if so how did you get on. What type of fixings , glue, edging strips etc. Any pro's and cons ? Any information greatly appreciated. cheers H.
  15. Hi Daniel, i'm basically in the same situation as you, in that i'm looking for a small lathe as a beginner, but i only want to do small stuff for now and i'm very limited on space and also will be moving shortly. So i have narrowed my search down to these two: https://snaintonwoodworking.com/record-dml305-package.html https://snaintonwoodworking.com/charnwood-w824-midi-lathe.html Don't know much about them, so i'm going to go to the supplier and trial them both and then decide.
  16. Hi all As per title, im wanting approx 1 sqr mtr (i think) of leather to either make 1 big chisel roll or to make individual chisel holders. But i have not got a clue what i actually need, had a look on various websites but get confused about the different types of leather. Im getting together a really nice set of large framing chisels together, so i want something equally impressive to keep them in. So any info and guidance would be greatly appreciated. cheers H.
  17. Spending as much time as possible with my wife who truly is my soulmate A nice bourbon last thing at night Just sitting and relaxing listening to nature, either early mornings or at dusk
  18. At work for general use, i have a cheapo stanley one, which is due to be replaced at some point soon. But for camping / walking etc i have a gerber.
  19. My caravan only weighs 1300kg fully loaded, as its only a 2 berth. My wife really fancies the sportage so going to look at them in more detail. As for the engine, it will be the 2 ltr i will be looking at. Im old fashioned in that a bigger engine equals more pulling power, not into small engines with turbos etc. i believe the 4x4 system is electronic on these as well.
  20. After talking to my trusty mechanic, i have taken a new direction and now looking at either the kia sportage or the honda crv, both of which will do what i want. So any thoughts ?
  21. HI, thinking of getting a freelander 2 as a family car and for towing the caravan etc, whats the pro;s and cons of them. budget is aroung the 8 - 9k mark or is there a better alternative (but must still be 4x4) within the budget cheers in advance H.
  22. The rolling pin is for my wife, she makes birthday cakes etc so wanted a large rolling pin for the icing she has to do. The rolling pin is superb and exactly what she wanted. Steve is a top notch guy to deal with. Harvey.
  23. Does anyone know if a makita / dolmar 9010 saw would fit a logosol and would it be any good ?
  24. Pay off the mortgage (again !!!!) Buy me and my good wife a small new motorhome My wife would retire Life would get a whole lot simpler.
