  1. why are you billing him, if you didnt ask for the tree to be cut.
  2. I'm useless on computers, however when i started college last year i needed a basic laptop to see me through 5 years of college. I bought a hewlet parkard from argos for about £350 i think. I went to argos as they had one in at a higher spec but the same price as pc world / currys. I also bought my daughter a cheap one from tescos and not had an ounce of trouble from that one either.
  3. normally laptop, but sometimes my aged kindle.
  4. that looks smart, i actually prefer a high gloss top.
  5. All the best luke. Just an idea but why not start a photo log to share your pictures with us all.
  6. Ive got a £10 nokia. You can text and ring on it, thats all its supposed to do, it is a phone after all. Battery lasts over a week and if i did somehow break it, i'd just buy another and put sim card back in.
  7. Some nice pictures there WoodED, really like the last one.
  8. Whats your 115 like now john, now you have had it a while. Would it be comfortable with an 18" bar on it.
  9. just cold and wet here in barnsley / doncaster at the moment.
  10. I agree j, i love my citroens, my old c15 van never let me down for the 9 years i had it, and the berlingo multispace is even better. Could never have a renault though.
  11. I wear a £10 casio, it tells time, is waterproof and has a light on it. Oh and they last for years.
  12. Found an expanding bit, that i forgot i had. Drilled hole approx 60mm dia and approx 100mm deep. Theres about 40mm of solid timber for the bottom. So i've made 5 just as a trial, if they want any more, then yes i will get tooled up proper for them. Just one question, is it worth giving them a coating of oil or not.
  13. I'd get the engine reconditioned, if rest of car is in good condition, then you would have a decent car again.
  14. Without this turning into a stihl v everyone else, i actually have a small stihl one. Had it for about 8 - 10 years now and its still going strong. Think it cost about £170 when i bought it. If i hadnt bought that one i would of got a nilfisk alto.
  15. My dad has a mcculloch 420?, had it for at least 10 years, and it just keeps going regardless of the abuse. Never had a saw as reliable.
  16. Ah delabodge, i understand what you mean now, unfortunately i haven't got access to a bandsaw, so i will have to stick to doing it my way, but thanks anyway. Cheers for the tips about the bottom splitting. The timber will be whatever i can scrounge from the wood at work, so it could be anything.
  17. I need to hollow out some logs, but leave a bottom in, thus creating pencil holders for the desk.
  18. No, they are wanting them made from logs, from the woodland at work. As usual they just think its a 2 minute job.
  19. I'm a joiner now working for the nhs, and yes i love my job, and love working with wood, being on sites like this one, opens your eyes further and makes you want to learn and do even more. Without the people on this site, i wouldnt of dare attempt to do milling or carving.
  20. Hi steve, thanks for your offer, but no its something that i can do. Its just that i need to get some forstner bits that size. On another note, is it possible to use forstner / drill bits in a lathe. I've never done any lathe work, but its something i keep thinking about, so the more i could use it for the better.
  21. Hi I've been asked to make some pencil holders for a school nursery. The pictures they have shown me, just show hollowed out 100mm diameter (approx) logs with the centres hollowed out approx 75mm diameter and 100mm deep, if that makes sense. So what i'm after is some large wood bits that are ideal for hollowing out end grain. I know a few of you recommend the dewalt self feed bits. Are these the best or are there any alternatives. The sizes i'm after at the moment will be between 50 and 75mm and will need to go about 100mm deep. Thanks in advance H
