Def agree, suspension lift will make things worse in this situation, need to find a hitch at the right height for the trailer or an adjustable one. Stiffer suspension would help as well but standard ride height. Which model of shogun is it, could also ask on a shogun forum re towbar choice.

@IronMike what is your shoguns hitch height without trailer attached. IIRC 19" for 2.6t trailers and 21" for 3.5t. You see lots of vans with the trailer very nose down and back trailers wheels in the air as hitch needs to be low to open back doors, not a nice combination. What height should my towing hitch be on my towing vehicle? The correct hitch height of the towing vehicle is critical when towing a trailer. The correct hitch height should leave your trailer level when hitched on. If the hitch height is not correct this can cause your trailer to sway which can lead to loss of control of your vehicle and trailer. Usually swaying will occur when you exceed 40 / 50kph. Another effect of towing your trailer at the incorrect hitch height is uneven tyre wear. If the trailer is not level, the front or rear tyres may wear excessively due to loads not being evenly dispersed. For most Ifor Williams trailers the correct hitch height should be between 485mm (19”) and 535mm (21”) depending on the trailer and the type of wheel equipment fitted. Yep 660 bar wont fit on an 880, but an 880 bar will fit on a 660 with an adaptor. Unless you machine the 660 bar mounting slot out, 12mm to 14mm IIRC

Near death experience post on the downhill section of the A66. Looking at picture above it could be the ground your parked on but trailer does not look level, it looks nose down as if tow vehicle hitch too low, which would not have helped. I have always set my hitch height so trailer runs level, granted that's easier with old style hitch on landrovers, not a swan neck type. Shogun looks reasonably level though.

XTC is a good all rounder and easier on the hands as 13mm. If going to go mechanical hitch then you need thinner rope such as tachyon, blue tongue, both nice feel or drenaline harder on the hands. I am using blue tongue on hitchclimber and drenaline on spiderjack and tachyon on sidestrop.
