  1. But with your throwing for your tip now can you honestly say YOU can guarantee the safety of you tip at your experienced level.whats the difference between you and a beginner in regards to throw line.and I believe old mill said under supervision.help will be their when its needed. I don't necessarily agree with the prospect but that wasn't the question. Jake:thumbup1:
  2. I would also say yes. When a complete novice starts out you get used to what you learn with.if you learn srt then nothing would seem out of the ordinary.however then we go into the question of weather the candidate can lift their own weight as opposed too half. Again as Paul said, depends on gear used. Jake:thumbup1:
  3. Also when the rope begins to twist.run the whole rope through the pulley and start using the other end of the rope.so the twisted end becomes the lowering end............does that make sense? Jake:thumbup1:
  4. Good point..........I was just trying to stop the derail myself but forgot that it was a beginners thread. Although these can still be applied to a novice with only a years climbing say. Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  5. Good answer. I really like tape slings for these scenarios. Just choke the piece your going to drop then cut (with a silky) as the piece falls you have total control and are able to either throw it away from the obstacle or back into the crown like rich described. Another option I like to use if feasible is to have a second climber in the middle of the crown to pass pieces to and to generally untangle hangers and ropes.nothing worse than a huge birds nest to try and untangle on your way out of a tree. Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  6. Nice idea for a thread but does seem to be sliding somewhat. How about giving difficult scenarios, ill start. Tree over hanging a greenhouse that you need to prune.will be very difficult to lower as the branches will get snagged and hung up on the way down.what do you do? Throw out some suggestions so we can give these guys loads of answers. Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  7. Yeh man o.z is great.would not change it for the world.perhaps you should think about the move:thumbup: Also try Glendale.they are very close to the yard and go through a few employees. Also high line but I'm not sure if your an electrical kinda guy. Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  8. Hey rob. Yes I'm in Melbourne working for a fantastic company, you will be shocked at the type of work we do here.its an amazing place with amazing people. I only arrived here in September and bought my kit new when I sent it.as it was still in packaging obv I had no problem with immigration so I can't help their I'm afraid.still took 3 friggin months to get here though.there is defiantly work for a second climber but just be honest and don't big yourself up to be something your not.haven't been here long but seen 2 people do this and when sent up trees to do work, they look like tw@t$. Like I said if your interested ill put you in touch with my boss,I've been real lucky that he sponsored me to come out here so I'm at the start of a long and wonderful journey. Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  9. Hey rob Give me a shout when you want to come out and I should be able to hook you up with work befor you arrive. City wide only do council parks and power line clearance and aardvark recently went bust.workand pay is plentiful and living is great. Jake:thumbup1:
  10. Whilst I agree that we must do what the client asks,i believe we should try to educate the clients before we butcher/do what they want.i will always give my professional opinion before agreeing to their 'spec'. I then throw the ball back into their court too see if they still want to go ahead with their described work.or if my amendment was enough too convince them otherwise. Jake:thumbup1:
  11. Hey Nile.not sure about work around the Bristol area apart from midland, not sure if you want too go into council work again. How come your looking for work again? Jake:thumbup1:
  12. Could have been a happier ending for the trees though. Three an,what is the plan of action for the trees now.or is it a wait and see game Jake:thumbup1:
  13. I had my old man make me one from ally but the thing twisted and bent. Was really good up until that point. I was also worried about the sharp corners of the ally so close to my hitch.now I have a stiffy from tree suff that came with the Zak-2 Jake:thumbup1:
  14. Who the hell tol you that:001_huh:
  15. Next time your out on a recy guys I wouldn't mind tagging along if that's okay.iv gt the r/w if that is more persuasive. Jake:thumbup1:
  16. Don't mean to piss on ur bonfire mate but I'm with these guys. PURPLE PLUM Jake:thumbup1:
  17. Don't send a boy to do a mans job. Just can't get the staff,eh! Jake:thumbup1:
  18. It was super hot today eh Ewan. Could ring out my shirt by the end of the day. Still wont complain,England seem to be getting it pretty bad Jake:thumbup1:
  19. No different to cable bracing I suppose.love how some trees grow.awsome Jake:thumbup1:
  20. It's viable on 1 tree to thousands of trees. Why would you inject one host but not another on the same site. Unless it is not affected in which a plan is drawn up to try and stop the spread,or expect the inevitable and catch it as early as pos. Jake
  21. Depends on dbh of tree but a rough figure of $150, and yes it does work kills of the beetle and larva to stop them decimating the tree. However most of our work is ground and soil related. Also watering is a big thing here because of the weather. What you need to remember is in oz there are a lot more pests than diseases and trees behave very differently round here.plant health is very worthwhile her and we have saved magnificent trees by intervening with what fate had planned for them. I am we'll aware of the benefits of dead and dying trees in relation to the Eco system but unless the trees are saved then they are marked for fell because of the urban environment in which they stand. Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  22. Stem injections for elm leaf beetle is big business here. There is no argument for or against IMO, if a tree can gain health or possibly extend its life then why should we not intervene. A tree is better than no tree, and these products can only be researched in the field and over a period of time(not 1 month) we will not know until test are trialled and I'm sure mistakes and deaths may be made but it could be for a greater good. Jake:thumbup1:
  23. But what's it's use? Everyone should do a Vta anyway shouldn't they. At least a quick glance at the basics. Sorry just don't understand why technology would need to get involved in this one. Jake:thumbup1:
  24. Where abouts are you based mendip logs, I used to work for fountain Treeworks in brockley Coombe. Moved to OZ in September.did a lot of work in the me dips and beyond Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  25. How about a small amount of mulching? Jake:thumbup1:
