  1. Depends how you ascend the tree. If you move up the tree using ddrt like i sometimes do. When you reach your final anchor you can pull as much rope through your hitch until you have enough to reach the ground, then you can tie off your anchor to secure it. Or using a throwline you can throw to your final TIP and secure your rope to the bottom of the tree. That way you can pull enough rope through so that it just reaches the bottom of the tree or you can use as much rope as you want. Does this answer your question buddy? Jake:thumbup1:
  2. Theres lots of ways to be able to do this. How do you tie in
  3. I think thats the beuty with srt. We have no-one to teach us but ourselves. Learning everyday and doing a job we all love makes the day go so much faster. Since starting srt im guessing im working at least 30% faster and alot more effeicant thus geting more trees done in a day, would you agree with this Ian. not just an easier climb but a faster climb too. Also you mite be learning but i had never heard of a rw before this thread so thats why im thanking you, see it as introducing me:thumbup: Stay safe J:thumbup1:ake
  4. Any length you like:thumbup: When you get to ur final TIP you can adjust the working end of the line to reach the ground as thats all you need. Make sure to give urself a couple of metres extra incase you decide to come through a crotch. When you start using srt play with the different anchor points as there are many that suit others that might not suit urself.Their are alot to choose from:thumbup: Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  5. Yeah hopefully. im moving over with my wife and Kid. Ill be working for arborco, mostly private work from what i can gather. I got sponsorship for 4 years, then that is enough time too decide eather we want to stay. Im 23 and going over as a crew leader. You guys been in the game long? Ill be just south of melbourne on the peninsula(1 hr away) so abit of a commute, Still wont complain though:thumbup: Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  6. Funny you should talk about wait loss with the rw cuz i reckon iv lost 10lb since july on it. You really work your core and feel alot better for it.The fatigue you gain in different muscles is nothing compared to how much longer you can keep climbing and without arm cramps. Its a real massive change but a very much rewarding one. Thanks for enlightning us to srt Ian(or me anyway) Stay Safe Jake:thumbup1:
  7. Jesus, thats monumental. Our you guys buying all these books or just getting a select few. Jake:thumbup1:
  8. Just got a quote for Bristol to Melbourne via air. need 2 boxes as my kit weighs over 35kg............£290:sneaky2: Not happy but it has to be done, cant do it via sea as i need it the week after i arrive and its too late now. Jake:thumbup1:
  9. Hey guys, im movingover in 3 weeks.cant wait, also off to melbourne.who you guys working for andwhat area?been before? Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  10. Can i have a list please:001_smile: Jake:thumbup1:
  11. The job looks okay but id be a little wary of the job spec if i were you. The council specified a certain amount coming off, You have to remember that the tree is diseased and the spec wasnt based on asthetics but for the trees health. By you taking more off you most probably created bigger wounds. Im only giving my opinion, nice job tho. Stay safe Jake
  12. I used them a couple of weeks ago and the service was fantastic.........Spread the gusharts word(no disrespect to other dealers, we still love you too) Stay Safe Jake:thumbup1:
  13. Sorry guys,I dont mean to rock the boat but i dont think ovals are nessecary. I was using normal krabs for around 2 years befor i switched to the ovals. Dont get me wrong it is alot neater setup but not vital. Stay safe Jake
  14. Is the bank steeper than it looks on the photo, Seems strange for the tractor to tip on a slight slope. Strange one that:confused1: Glad you and your kit is fine stay safe Jake:001_cool:
  15. Was using all 3 (outside dyneema, inbetween, outside the jack) until about 2 weeks ago. I was finding it abit annoying putting all 3 on so was missing out the middle rubber. Thanks for the heads up as i will now allways use all 3 with the jack. Stupid as it takes less than 10 seconds to put on. Stay safe Jake:001_cool:
  16. Lancstree i use the rubber rings for the sj setup however on my way down from a 70ft beech i noticed the red joint was wobbling a bit.after a nervouse decent i found that it was barely screwed in:thumbdown:. Feel a bit guilty that i didnt report it on here now. Thought it would be a common problem. I havnt had any fraying in the dyneema tho. Stay safe Jake
  17. I just got my visa acceptance today for Oz. I fly out sep 9th, im being sponsored and i must say its a super easy way to do it. Plus youv got guaranteed work as soon as you arrive. Got any questions then feel free to fire away. Take it steady:001_cool:
  18. This could be a very interesting thread indeed. However i have nothing(that i want to) to share:lol:
  19. i work for him at the moment but ill be off in september.think hes looking for someone with experiance
  20. I have the dyneema version so annoyingly i could only ascend with LOTSclipped into the dyneema to release the sj locking mechanism:sneaky2: but then it would just run free and not engage.tbh it the only reason i stopped using it.on the way down and for branch walks its super smooth.just the saftey factor let it down for me.and the fact you cant attach it mid line makes it impossible to work with.again this is only my opinion, and my experiance.im sure youll give it ago but just be careful!!!!!!!!
  21. Iv made a metal teather like you described, but only a strait peice. i usually descend with my left hand so i placed the metal on the right side of the the sj.when i used my right hand to descend it wasnt a major issue. But its no problem cuz like i said im finished with that combo now. i think ill use the sj for one job and rw for others. Plus it ends up being your main system being worth around £300 which is pretty nuts considering that a h/c and cord is only £30ish. and the s/j doesnt make you 10 times quicker...........just 10 times cooler:thumbup1:
  22. And we moan about our "pinching" harnesses. imagine what that chain harness was doing to his gonads.......OUCH:001_tongue:
