  1. Agreed, doesnt seem to be very dense either. Oh well keep us posted:001_cool: Jake
  2. Darnit!!! I was going to invite myself along, couldnt make your last climb but wanted a crack with you guys. Climbing kits in shipping now:thumbdown: Jake:thumbup1:
  3. Doubt it europea, doesnt seem to be the right form or have enough epi. Lovely tree tho. What work needs to be done Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  4. Did you not get the stiff metal teather witht the zk-2 Ian Jake:thumbup1:
  5. Same as Dan, too much friction but its not too much bother as your only using it to come out of the tree. Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  6. No i meant that if i want a peice dropped on the lowering rope so that it doesnt crush my leg,i only want it to freefall 2m maximum. Jake:thumbup1:
  7. Realnice vid buddy, nice lowering technique. Looks like you and your crew had a great system going. Iv only used capstons before, whats this grcs you guys are talking about. am i right in thinking that they can whinch and lower the same rope? Cheers Jake
  8. Your right,80 to 120kgs is a big lump but the forces involved are far greater. The only time i let something drop is to clear my legs from danger. Otherwise i tel my groundies to keep it nice and tight. Allways tell them to let it run a little and slow it down gently unless the target is too close. But i would assume we all do this. Most i want it dropped is 1.5m, 2m max just too clear myself and stop it crushing my legs. Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  9. Im yet to see this purple one you all talk of any links? Jake:thumbup1:
  10. On a seriouse note........it looks like a fantastic compact bit of kit, i do wonder if its size would be an advantage or disadvantage. Id be willing to give it a proper test for a couple of months if you need one, wink wink, nudge nudge. Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  11. I reckon he looks like adrian chlds:001_tt2: Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  12. I do understand what your saying but when i said fit for porpose i meant a tree not just foliage. If im rigging i intend for the equiptment to be ample for all rigging. Do you change ropes/slings half way through the tree or stick with it? If you do change, whats the point? Cheers Jake
  13. Yeah make sure your 100% it deserves the 5day notice an make sure to take photos for records. It wouldnt harm contacting the L.A as they then can check for themselves and agree with your decision(covering your ass) Jake:thumbup1:
  14. Its very easy to tie and its in the knots section of arbtalk and its alot easier to tie mid line than a running bowline. plus its retreivable but you have to follow the route of the dead end otherwise its hard to retreive because of the friction from rope on rope and the branch. Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  15. Oh i have no doubt that they are good for what they are. Its been said so many times in this thread but as long as you work within there limits.......... Rigging is a fine art weather its big bits or small,as long as it gets the job done safely. Please post the pics up tho
  16. Cheers guys. Mistahben if you tie the alpine butterfly midline when you reach the ground you can pull on the dead end of the rope thus retreiving your anchor point Do you have a cambium saver? Jake:thumbup1:
  17. Pauls right, that seems like alot of force and friction =heat. Nice test tho, bet it was fun:biggrin:
  18. I passed my 40/41 after having my 39 for 2 months i think. i was only 18 i think. I would recomend this course to anyone. i didnt do them at this venue but the content was amazing, the best course i did by far:thumbup:
  19. And this is why i think its an accident waiting to happen. Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  20. Cheers Dan, Im really struggling to explain this.seems so easy to this. Have i explained this in a complicated way? Jake:thumbup1:
  21. This is very true but the price just makes it that more inviting. You know what blokes are like "I could use that saw to peel my orange" and such like:001_tt2:
  22. i think its an accident waiting to happen for a member of the public:sneaky2:
  23. Because the rope doesnt move like ddrt you do not need double the amount to reach the ground. You move up and down the rope so as long as it reaches the ground then you will have enough. but i usually give myself a few metres of rope extra incase i drop through a crotch. Jake:thumbup1:
  24. You could do this but it will probz cause alot of problems with the throw line being in the tree. Tie an alpine butterfly midline i wouls suggest, again get your desired working rope length tie a a/butterfly with the krab to the workin end and choke it off the anchor branch. Go to page 123 in this thread as old mill trees put up a couple of pics using a mailon, only i would suggest using a pulley on the mailon with the rope going through that for even less friction. Also drew set up a thread dedicated srt TIPS, ill try and find it. Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
