  1. superb guys.really appreciate your advice.read more and listen to you guys. i will be inputting abit more on certain threads as to what i think the answer to the dilemma is, however would appreciate a nudge in the right direction if i am not on the same page as you guys. Its all about confidence in what you know i guess. Plus the will to want to learn and to be more open minded when someone has a different veiw on the outlook. Thanks again Jake:thumbup1:
  2. I know Ccolville is definatly looking for work.ill try and get him involved:thumbup1:
  3. So SERVEYOR............what do i need to do to get my hands on one then:001_huh: Jake:thumbup1:
  4. Whats the rigging plate for, would a sling and krab not be as sufficiant Jake
  5. Agreed, iv forgotten the rope is there sometimes from a base tie off. Thats why i try not to use when i can, from what your saying tho this seems like a very good reason for a base anchor. So then...youve got the problem.........whats the solution? Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  6. PURELY for the cool factor,it attracts me cuz its shiney:biggrin: Jake:thumbup1:
  7. all well and said ewan but iv never found a lanyard to be too heavy. iv never stood at thebottom of a tree and thought"i wish my lanyardwas a feww 100grms lighter" Also hardware usually conforms too a minimum andmaximum rope diametre. not just for a thinner line Jake:thumbup1:
  8. Cheers for the input guys.My problem is that iv been the most experianced guy on the team/company apart from the boss, and i hardly ever see him because hes pricing or doing office work. Therefore i cannot enhance my knowledge through conversation, even though this is by far my best learning method. In 2 weeks ill be leaving my current company and working for a crew of 16+ blokes so im hoping im guna learn alot from them. Im thinking of buying alex shigos modern book of arboriculture. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance Jake:thumbup1:
  9. Cool. take it you wont be returning soon then. Or are you out there for good. What should i be expecting when i get out there, i remember you saying they do things a little differently in OZ? Take it steady Jake:thumbup1:
  10. Im not reallygetting why you want/need such a thin lanyard Jake:thumbup1:
  11. Dont get me wrong, i dont like doing reductions for the trees sake(dont beleive in it for most situations, seems counter productive) However you get a real sense of pride when get down from a real good looking reduction so i think ill miss that. Im all for tree work thats better for the tree and as you said learnin a new skill set. You been in OZ long. Jake
  12. Cheers guys, this is getting quite deep for a bank holiday monday. Jake:thumbup1:
  13. Iv been reading alot of books recently and although i feel i am learning alot, i wonder how you guys have gained the knowledge you have. Is it from books alone or education aswell, maybe seminars. The answers you guys give on this forum baffles me as to how/why you know the answer in such detail. Thanks in advance Jake:thumbup1:
  14. Cheers guys:sneaky2: I even had wikipedia up for that one:lol: Good to see their is a sense of humor out there:laugh1: Jake:thumbup1:
  15. Sounds pretty cool. Shame about the reductions tho, i like a good old reduction every now and again. Looking forward to it, trying not to think about the whole bigger tree thing. Love doing big trees but no point thinking about how big trees are unless your about to go up it. Why scare yourself out of something you havnt seen yet, the spiders worry me more. Im assuming they are not as bad as people mke out!!! Jake:thumbup1:
  16. Not being funny but stick to what the T/O tels you to do. Theres no way in hell the tree officers round here would let us get away with taking a branch back to nodes. Youll be suprised with how much of a difference a smaller reduction will make on Q.ilex Because all the growth tends to be on the ends it is very dense. small reduction = not very dense tree, plus realisticly its better for the tree also. This is only my experiance as i dont know what your client wants/T officer. They do pollard but this surely cannot be the best remedy to what i can only assume is a perfectly healthy tree. Take it steady Jake:thumbup1:
  17. That bad eh! Well most of the work will hopefully be in the peninsula but ill go where the work is like i said. Not hugely fussed about commute, its a stepping stone so things can only get better from here. Where you based/work. What type of work do you guys do. Do you enjoy it? Stay safe Jake:thumbup1:
  18. Hi Ewan, Sorry for late reply. Ill be moving to Mt Martha but the work will be based between there and Malvern in the city. Depends where work is on the day. Where abouts are you in the city/area.Massive place Take it steady Jake:thumbup1:
  19. Ill be the first too put in a good word for this lad, nuff said Jake:thumbup1:
  20. Cant you just blow the clippings under the hedge with a blower:001_tt2: Jake:thumbup1:
  21. Thats awsome, and no doubt theyll have so pretty invaluable advice. Still dont think ill get it tho.Not unless i throw it away and pretend i lost it like Ewan:001_tt2: Jake:001_tt2:
  22. WOW i never ISC are making it. Did they buy the rights forall of Kevs inventions or just the ZK-2, Is it even going to be called the ZK-2. Jake:thumbup1:

  24. Im sure the TURDS will be along soon to tell you more info(tree nerds) doesnt look to bad for a birch but a picture of the whole tree would help alo Cheers Jake:thumbup1:
