  1. I know a guy who is slightly struggling to get a domestic based job, only people who wil employ him work in buckets all dai (not my idea of fun) Jake:thumbup1:
  2. You'll struggle too get sponsorship without them getting a trial out of you.costs a lot too go through the sponsorship route for them and they'll want too make sure ur not a dud Jake:thumbup1:
  3. Same here, nothing wrong as long as you know your eating it.when you shop you pick up beef burgers because you fancy them, not for a lucky dip. Jake:thumbup1:
  4. This thread is a joke, the video is awsome and I found the experiment to be hilarious. Cannot believe the arm chair arborists are trying to find criticism in something they would never do. No one would do this in a real scenario and I love it was done in a controlled environment by professionals and not another you tube clip gone wrong. Thanks for the vid guys, keep up the work and I for one want too see 'what if' videos. Jake:thumbup1:
  5. I use the neck elastic,Ewan showed me his and liked the look of it,went home and tried it and it's freakin awsome.so easy too clip and un clip, don't know it's on most of the time.best is when coming in from a limb walk with it clipped in,if you hold the rope under the hitch it will advance as you walk in,no tend the slack every couple of feet just reposition your hand higher as rope moves through the hitch. Jake:thumbup1:
  6. If you put on a shackle instead of the small crab you could take away some sloppiness of the wrench but also have a tie in point for advancing the wrench. Also does it work well with the zigzag? Jake:thumbup1:
  7. That's what we do, Scrape out rotten, loose or wet wood, fill with expandable foam, we usually place tin over the top too stop parrots and cockatiels ripping it apart then paint to a close colour. Customers love it aesthetically because it's better than looking at a cavity, also stops wildlife having parties in there. Jake:thumbup1:
  8. Was on site once upon a time, when I was a wee lad,we had an engineer on site who came to change the blades (company policy) and I was climbing and the two groundless carried on stacking brash first in the hopper and the behind the chipper.when the engineer had finished and before he had chance too drive off the chipper was fired up an then shortly after followed an almighty BANG. What the two numb nuts had done was left a felling lever in the hopper then cleverly disguised it with brash.felling lever was at a right angle and half in the chip box, chipper followed a £2300 bill. Engineer took it away that minute. Complete twonks Jake:thumbup1:
  9. Llelandii:thumbup: Jake:thumbup1:
  10. I don't think it stops root growth but rapidly slows it,tree needs to concentrate on producing growth tissue to photosynthesis again.hopefully someone will be along to correct me. Jake
  11. I was amazed at Benr's cougar blue with rope wrench compared to my tachyon. Soooooo much better for ascending, really want a length myself
  12. But surely a image is better than guess work.i know it's not totally accurate but better than a stab in the dark. It will only aid in your conclusion of the state of the tree.but........as people have said,in the right environment. Jake:thumbup1:
  13. Work in Melbourne is amazing, great sites and great city.great people and the weather helps too. Things are done very different here though, I haven't done a reduction since I came out in September.dont worry about the name, just wanted you too know I had it first:001_tt2: There's tonnes of opportunities here at the minute and a huge skills shortage here.thats why us stupid Brits are liked and hired:001_rolleyes: Jake:thumbup1:
  14. You stole my name:sneaky2: Fair play bro,I was in the same boat as you, just left school, strait to college to learn your trade and it's hard being young and inexperienced. Just take whatever you can, work real hard in college as that's where employers will see more benefit from you.not just a hard worker but a useful hard worker. Hope it works out Jake:thumbup1:
  15. It's a good system for certain situations but you need a second rope, crab and pulley.you should really just try the system that ppl are suggesting.both end or side strop.its what is taught too beginners in college and a a rough estimate 90% of ppl would have learned this way.trust me it works.you get too advance the tree and work with this method. As they say walk before you run.espeically when climbing alone. Jake:thumbup1:
  16. You either need a second system (other end of ur line) or a short side strop for your side d's.the short strop could also be transferred to the bridge of your harness to get better work positioning. When you throw ur line to a branch advance as far as you can then take your second system and throw too a higher branch and advance the tree that way. Note- always test the anchor with your whole weight befor disconnecting the other,if using a strop from side d's.never hang from them, always be stood on a branch or crotch so that ur full weight is not on ur kidneys. Jake:thumbup1:
  17. I had a similar problem a few months back but befor I bought a new clutch I put wd-40 on the spring as I thought it was sticking just slightly.worked a treat and never needed a new clutch.worth a shot. Jake:thumbup1:
  18. Nice to see some people are still having fun whilst at work Jake:thumbup1:
  19. I wasn't trying to have a love-in,just trying to explain why I don't currently believe in the system but just think it's a weight to win jobs/contracts.not many company's I know that are AA approved but only have to show 'they care' just a ploy to make some dough. Just an opinion as I said, I don't own a business I'm just a climber. Jake:thumbup1:
  20. The tree certainly had a good go at trying to control the disease. Jake:thumbup1:
  21. So if I was categorised as skilled or master, how would that affect the team and how will it affect the business.will it be another charge on top of the AA approved C scheme.thanks for your answers already Paul, very informative. I don't know why I'm too bothered about the subject but I just used to get so frustrated by approved contractors in my area.i personally do not feel they work was up to scratch but they had the money too make themselves look good whilst being assessed.then looked good too LA's blah blah blah.almost seemed as though throwing their weight and money around too get work.i understand this is business on their part but I thought the AA 'cared for trees'. Please don't see this as a dig its me just giving my view of what I have seen and experienced. Cheers Jake:thumbup1:
  22. Air talks a bugger for sitting at the computer.the amount of times I tell my wife ill be in bed in 5 mins..............then a hour and a half later I stroll upstairs and can't sleep because I'm too switched on:lol: Jake:thumbup1:
  23. Oh it's the knot as well.i wouldn't trust a overhand knot just because the cord was right.its the combination and depends on your climbing style. Jake:thumbup1:
