  1. Went couple of years ago, thing that annoyed mrs was that blinking helicopter buzzing about all the time at quite low level, told me she wouldnt be going to that show again - oh well.
  2. That's a good one Barrie,made me laugh.
  3. Yes,that would cause a bit of a flap.
  4. I always ask them to clear up afore we get there, but more than likely some gets missed, nothing worse than gettin it round the base of your trousers off your boot. And many a time ive stood in the dark back at the yard getting it off truck pedals,or the rungs of a ladder or tripod with a bucket of jeyes fluid and a frozen scrubbing brush.
  5. When ringing up on the concrete yard all day i wear a pair my son in law got me from royal navy, heavy duty, velcro, and top quality, dare say you could get a pair from a surplus store.
  6. If i got down like that to sharpen up,it would be dark before i could get back up again.
  7. Few weeks ago 1 of my young shavers was due to come in for a job that had to be done on a saturday. About 7 sat morning his mum called me to say that his x girlfriend had asked him to go to her house fri night, then she immediatly left him in charge of their 2 little tots while she went straight off for the weekend with her new boyfriend. When he dragged himself into my yard monday morning he said she got back at 1 that morning. I think on this occasion he was telling the truth.
  8. Yes,and of course it makes lovely kindling.
  9. Think ide steer clear of that old bus mate, and wait for something more practical.
  10. If its a mixture of oak ash or beech, probably £50 or so a ton + vat, delivered in. Under that and you got a bargain Bob.
  11. Yep,go for a ranger Ian,but avoid 1 thats come off a livestock farm.
  12. Day off today. Went into yard first thing to move mrs oldwoodcutters hot hatch out of the way only to find remote wont work, got in it to realise she'd left lights on (again) all night, battery as flat as a pancake. Jumped it off truck and put it on charge for rest of day. Priced 2 jobs up this afternoon and got go ahead for biggest one.
  13. Talking of reasonable prices,in yesterdays eastern daily press someones advertising in classifieds logs 2 cubic metre load £75. I would say that just about takes the blinking biscuit.
  14. Whats amazing is they put all their food n drink empties in a carrier bag,tie a knot in it,then lob that lot out of the car.
  15. Did a job for Lord Lucan, afraid i cant reveal his whereabouts.
  16. Yes Mat,that plate on the top roller is a little devil, when it blocks up and wraps around the shaft and bearing, the only tools that you can use in there is a screwdriver and pliers. My only gripe on an otherwise top chipper.
  17. Made me laugh out loud, that's the funniest thing ive heard all day.
  18. I'll keep a lookout for it over this way Bren, you never know.
  19. Not a trick, but a tip well worth knowing, when pricing the job up,(and this applies to mrs Miggins or Balfour Beatty) never tell them exactly how long the job will take, even when asked. You may have the fastest climber in the uk on the job that day,or a team of groundies who've really got their skates on,and everythings goes perfect. When you finish at 12 instead of 5 or manage to do it in a day and not 2,then its only human nature for the client to think he's paying twice as much as he should, because youve done it in half the time. If you dont tell him in the first place, then thats all avoided.
  20. The times ive seen someone start to cut a connie hedge thats been rained on overnight,or cutting in the rain, and getting covered in water droplets off it before they've done 10 yards. Before you start, just get the leafrake and wack the fonds for a few yards, that way the water off the hedge will fall on the ground and not down your neck.
  21. I try to keep the inside rim of the holes clean, and the o ring on the caps, but yes they can be a devil. Sometimes i'll notice someone having trouble after a fill up,i go over to see whats up,and even i cant get it on for a while.
  22. Sorry to hear that james,we was next door at ingoldsthorpe last week and had a dark blue transit truck,3 up, drive slowly by a couple of times,i went and stood on the kerb and the 3rd time they came up i waited til they got close then i pointed up the road and shouted for them in 2 words to go away. No where is safe now mate.
