  1. Most coal boys ive known had a big back problem, rather than a big bank balance.
  2. I always enjoy zipping through a branch thats poked me in the neck, chest, or gonads.
  3. One summers day before the 'incident' ,he drove his old banger into my yard and when he got out to talk to me was wearing only a pair of under pants as shorts, and a berret. That insignia was at a farm near northwold last week by the way Bren.
  4. Just as an aside if i may,was doing some treework beside old pentney abbey few weeks ago which was in the final stages of being renovated (2 years) and as i was working beside one of the stonemasons who was laying new stone with lime mortar,i asked him what mix he had to use . He said 6 sand 1 lime, but went on to say that the old foundation mortar was analysed before work started and unbelievably those old masons used 1 sand to 6 lime.
  5. We must have put i dont know how many tons of lime and conifer through the Forst all day today,it performed effortlessly as usual, and having used most makes of chipper at one time or another,i like it.
  6. Had a quadchip for a few years and yes it was good,my lads stuffed some rubbish through it non stop some days and didnt block it up once. I use a forst now,ok.,still not perfect, but goodness me its fast.
  7. Thats about right Steve,a big harvesting contractor told me that if anyone wanted straight ash from him this year it will be £70 a tonne plus vat, rideside, and he sells a few hundred tonne on his phone every morning before he's even left the house.
  8. Ive worked round them, its the valves and pipes you have to watch, and some have gauges sticking out,we have wacked the odd tank itself - that bits ok within reason.
  9. Terry ime up near Lynn on wednesday,if you can get to North Runcton you can have some Lime or yew straight out of my chipper - Tim.
  10. I still keep patching up my 200t's for fear of buying a 201t. When the time comes my next topper will be a 540t. I know a lot of good climbers, most very mild mannered and easy going, and with one voice their opinion on 201's is not repeatable on a family arb forum.
  11. Quoted to trim a connie hedge couple of weeks ago roadside in my own village, customer thought i was a little dear to his other quote, drove past it today and whoever done it looks like they used a knife and fork, talk about rough, but there we are. Phoned another potential customer when i got in at 6 tonight off my anserphone,a large silver birch wanting removed,he left the message at 11 this morning, when i started talking he stopped me and said it'd been done this afternoon.
  12. The thought of a serious slip up or accident with a running saw is horrific enough,so i'll skip looking at pictures of it if you dont mind friend.
  13. Eddie brings me back any uneaten ears from his hog roasts, mmm very tasty, very sweet.
  14. Done tree work and sold logs to a former high sheriff of northumberland who now lives hereabouts, if that cuts any ice with anybody.
  15. Just as an aside if i may,one of my young fellows stopped a police traffic car in its tracks for half a minute with a stop go board the other day. The signs weren't being used at that minute with traffic flowing freely, when i asked him what he thought he was doing, he simply said "they've stopped me enough times so i thought ide stop him." Youngsters nowadays,i dont know.
  16. Would you be interested in a large beech thats going to be dismantled soon Shendy?
  17. Yes thats what i was thinking Swinny.
  18. Seems a little on the low side for what you're doing, maybe time for a quiet word or three with your boss.
  19. The favourite saying of most old school fallers i knew was : lets get out of this god forsaken place as soon as we can this afternoon, and get back home where its safe warm and dry.
  20. Playing to the camera - possibly. Skilled and experienced cutter - definately.
