  1. Taking down a healthy Redwood Weds near Swaffham, only a small one at 60/70 feet but thick trunk - i supose 3 ft at bole and 2'6" dbh. Wont be in one piece though, probably in 3 logs as close to big house in small garden. Anyone like it, call me 07867 764307 - thanks Tim.
  2. What if ime allowed to reverse a 7.5 tonner into a small yard off the highway up to hour after sunset, can i reverse a 40 tonner out of it during hours of daylight?
  3. Tools i hate are the odd builder/plumber/electricion that walk right under hazard tape into my work area squeezing past a flat out chipper and side stepping falling brash with a "ime working here as well and in a hurry mate" attitude, And post men/women who are going to get to that letterbox no matter what, risking life and limb, completely unperturbed by the danger all around them.
  4. I wouldn't hang about much longer than an hour at the most from start to finish single handed. And charge as much as you think you can get away with.
  5. The 460 with 18" and 25" will be ok steve,660 bit of a handful with 18" but balanced better with 25",yes ide say 461 for cutting up cord.
  6. Ime so old i cant remember when i was middle aged, and have to endure comments from the resident comediens that claim to work for me as "mind your hip" or "have we got the zimmer frame on board" but ime still here leastways, sadly many of my old pals are not.
  7. I know some very good tree workers who have been in the job for many years, they struggle along trying to get work in,quoting away on the full range of tree work and then calling on subbies to help them, hiring in chippers and grinders and pickers. They struggle to keep more than a £1000 balance on their statements, run around in 10/15 year old trucks, never go on holiday, and remain below the income tax threshold. Should they be quoting £600 a day for 2 men and chipper?
  8. Yep,that's another reason why i didn't.
  9. Stood in a woodland ride on a organised pheasant shoot last season and my fellow guns all shouted "jay" although i had already seen it hopping about in the treetops above me. Always loved their plumage, and didnt have the heart to shoot it. Someone else accounted for it a few minutes later though.
  10. I do enjoy looking at those oldies that have now been souped up. Theres a dexta on u tube driven on a public road by an irishman doing about 60mph thats my favourite. Thanks for posting Tim.
  11. Shooting pigeons at this time of year on crops, is viewed as distasteful by my shooting friends as they know that it will leave young birds to starve to death back at the nest. They generally shoot clays instead during this season.
  12. As promised,a quick update on this problem. I have now successfully got a contract on direct debit for unlimited calls, texts, and voicemails, with some data as well, for £16 a month, and kept my old number. Thanks to my knowledgeable friends on arbtalk for all your help and advice,Tim.
  13. I think ide steer clear of using that lash up,ive still got two hands and i would like to keep them.
  14. Having just read 10 pages,i feel like ive read a bedtime story with no ending.
  15. Old school, when the humblest labourer thought he had a trade in his hands and took a pride in his spade work.
  16. The last time i took on a little fencing post job that called for the fence post and concrete to be removed, the original contractor had poured what looked like the same amount of concrete as would be specified into making a large german underground bunker. After that episode i now subcontract all fencing jobs out.
  17. Most tree men have been where you are at one time or another,as above put it behind you and look forward.
  18. Someone called me a cowboy once I put him on the next stage out of town.
  19. Well he seems to have made some sort of recovery leastways.
  20. At a farmer/smallholder friends yard last week and he was cheerfully filling up his 14 plate bmw 6 series with red. When he noticed that my jaw had dropped,he asked me when was the last time ide seen something like this pulled over and dipped.
  21. Pal of mine suffers from rheumatism and arthritas and he wears gel gloves now which he says help, leastways his hands not get any worse.
  22. I am endeavouring to get to grips with this and will post an update soon. I have meantime got voda down to £30 a month payg unlimited calls and texts and other stuff i dont recollect, which is better than £120,but i havnt finished yet,as ime going down the contract road with one or the other. Thankyou to all my friends on a/t for your help and advice.
  23. When riding in bosses truck avoid rabbiting on to him about football, recent punch ups, weed,or last nights liason with some young lady. When exiting truck dont slam door like youve got out of the cab of a fordson major. When starting saw/hedge trimmer/strimmer,dont pull starter cord so far out that complete recoil assembly is nearly wrenched out of its mounting bolts.
