  1. I dare say that all tree workers on a/t like to think that they are professional,or at least try to give that image to clients. But having said that most of us like a chuckle and post accordingly, and to my mind is part and parcel of a/t and is 1 of the reasons this forum so popular to like minded 'professionals'
  2. Tresspass, compensation, flippin heck you'd think a war crime had been commited, ive had fellows like him come out with steam coming from their ears complaining that we've parked 1 inch on 'their' verge. Ide have been tempted to wind him up even further.
  3. That oak tree may have been struck by lightning at some time, rendering it useless as firewood.
  4. Makes a change from all the 'tree falls wrong way' ones. They know what they're doing alright, thanks for posting Gary.
  5. Seems like i spoke too soon
  6. You want to make yourself known to Ken Hill at Heacham Bottom Farm, can normally tip there if you speak to them nicely, thats the nearest place to snettisham that ive found up there.
  7. Ime glad that's cleared up then.
  8. Where are you based friend?
  9. Mrs oldwoodcutter got one at 1/4 to 3 this morning on her phone, by chance her phone number has been randomly selected by sony eletronics (thats how they spelt it) And with her 1 million gbp thats got her name on it ime hoping she'll buy me an 880,brand new.
  10. I purposely kept today clear in my diary as i had a bad feeling about it for some reason. So had a nice quiet rest day drinking tea and keeping my log stove stoked well up.
  11. I knocked an overgrown spruce over in an estate of 80s built bungalows,i suppose there are 20 properties there,a few weeks ago,i hadn't worked on it before, and we've since done 5 more jobs on that estate, the last one we finished this week. 4 owners came out at various times to ask me to price up work there and then, and another phoned,as did the first one. These small estate residents often talk to each other, once one of them has found someone to do there work who has proved competent and trustworthy.
  12. That would take some pulling all day, you'd need 2 men on each handle.
  13. An ex employee, who was asked to leave after an incident where he let his temper get the better of him, apparently told my other guys that he knows exactly where all my saws are and will be coming back to get them one night. Obviously i took this tip-off very seriously, and moved my saws, and re-doubled all security. And i sleep with my ear a little closer to the window glass nowadays.
  14. Went to a popular clay shoot this morning and met up with members of our gang,7 or 8 likeminded fellows, amongst a field of more than a hundred enjoying targets on a sunny crisp morning. Loaded truck up later, ready for tomorrow, went and priced a little job up in next village, then later tucked into nice piece of salmon and mash while mrs oldwoodcutter watched the midwife.
  15. Afraid i didn't go to 'grammar' school.
  16. Or they'd have waited until it was finished, then nicked the whole bear and put it on flea bay.
  17. Lets hope you're right there Steve.
  18. I started a prudential private pension in 1972,i remember the salesman telling me at the time that i could retire in luxury, which they started paying out to me last year. It is so derisory that it isnt enough to keep my grandchildren in sweets for the month.
  19. My pole saws fuel cap is the very devil to put on,takes anyone filling it 3 or 4 goes before it seats properly, even when the o ring, cap, and heck are spotless. My topping saws also would test the patience of a saint, few weeks ago 1 was sent up to a climber who promptly covered his trousers in chain oil,he threatened to come down and throttle the groundie who has refilled it,a reliable man who normally knows what he's doing.
  20. Again, after pricing up 2 big trees this afternoon the clients wife asks how long do you think it will all take. I simply side stepped it with my stock in trade answer " it all depends on the weather and how many men i bring with me"
  21. I tried 1/2" ply sheets once - got smashed to pieces. Time for plan B.
  22. Hope they catch the thug that did that, poor old fellow.
  23. Yes a 461 with a 25" or 30" will get through it, but i would use my 660 running a 30" or 36" bar. Just lay the chain on top, and flat out, it will drop straight through those big lumps of yours.
  24. Good luck there Dan,ime glad ime not the only one that has customers like that, ive had more jokers this past 2 weeks than ive had in the past 2 years.
  25. Few weeks ago i bumped into the top fc man for east anglia and the home counties in charge of just about everything and everybody at fc southern. Both in the growing forest and after harvesting they now prefer to leave everything thats left on the ground for bugs and beasties,as he put it,except for experimental areas. Nice fellow actually.
