  1. For thick stuff i use my stihl hs81, could be worth investing in one as you're getting plenty of thick hedge work. If you're using one all day you will soon know whether you've got strong arms or not though.
  2. Young friend of mine decided to buy a penis enlarger off e-bay. When he excitedly unwrapped it,he found a magnifying glass.
  3. Was approached out of the blue by a suited guy in a new jag if i would be interested in felling and clearing 9 mature oaks on one of their most recent building sites in mid norfolk whilst we were taking a tree down for a home owner in a newly occupied part of another of their developments. Having got tangled up with big developers in the past,i sidestepped his invitatation and hope that the poor fellows who do jump in and do it, get paid in a year or two for at least some of the work they do.
  4. Absolutely first class work and an inspiration to carvers of all abilities. Welcome back Tommy.
  5. The fellows i know that drive them,i think to myself when i see them that you've got a horrendous bill coming sooner or later, and its normally sooner when i notice them driving their wife's toyota yaris around for a few weeks while the discos undergoing radical surgery.
  6. Clark's cut n climb jacket is very good in the trees. If ime on the ground or hedge trimming i have a royal navy heavy weather goretex jacket which is made to first class specifications, with a hood big enough to go over my helmet. By coincidence,my son in law is in the navy,so it didnt cost me too much.
  7. Dont get me going on pensions. I started 1 with the pru in 1989 and paid into it every month, they coughed up my final 'pension' last year which is a derisury £64 a month. I should have put it into a building society instead but hindsight is a wonderful thing. So its still blood sweat and sawdust for me and not retirement.
  8. That's so true, ive known it time and again when a conscientious worker who has given the best years of his life, often above and beyond the call, has simply been booted out of the farm gate under the title of 'redundant' . And a 16 year old starts before his old footprints are dry in the mud.
  9. If you're driving one of these modern tractors you should be on at least £12 p/h. Last winter i wanted to drive my truck into a big farmers grain store to get some wheat to feed his pheasants and a big new claas was in the doorway ticking over. No one around so i waited long enough then got in it to try and shift it,for a time i couldnt move it an inch, somehow i got it to lurch forward a couple of feet at a time bleeping and flashing warning lights at me, then i climbed out of it and drove my truck through the gap.
  10. If you find any solid timber in that Eddie, feel free to stack it up at my main yard.
  11. The only way ide get involved with the owner of that standing timber,is if he paid me to fell it.Then leave it to that owner to get shot of it.
  12. Its a well known fact that old ladies make the best tea.For once i was working by myself this morning, and the lady customer and i sat down the bottom of her garden mid morning and shared the season, and her tea was absolutely delicious, and i told her so. Her reply was that she's always used pg tips, and always uses freshly drawn water, not reboiled. Mrs oldwoodcutter buys earl grey which ime not keen on,tastes like talcum powder.
  13. I simply copied Stephen's spelling,as he is known as an educated chap.
  14. If i run on red, does that mean i needn't bother with cpc training or O liscencing?
  15. The other saturday i was doing a site clearance in an old village that english heritage oversee half, and second home owners have the other half. We were soon the focus of much pointing and head shaking, until a group of them formed at the entrance and 1 came over to me and asked what the hell we thought we were doing. I simply said i think its going to be a new permanent travellers site, got the saw running again and ignored them til we'd finished and pulled away.
  16. A hedgetrimmer thats sharp saves a lot of faffing about,as does a handy sized tripod.
  17. Sorry prj 88,a fellow arbtalker has lorried it all away now, thanks,Tim.
  18. It was a month ago when i looked at it and i cant rightly recollect,if you pm your number i will call you when ime beside it again on the day Steve, thanks,Tim.
  19. Ime taking one down on fri 25th,its in norfolk but i can put the trunk to one side at my main yard for you if thats any help.
  20. A little on the warm side today,we dont often have to ask the customer to refill our water bottles, but we did this afternoon, and my lads bring more pop to work of a morning than would fit inside a tesco lorry.
